Why foreigners should visit Quanzhou, a rarely visited but totally underrated city! EP15, S2

I stayed in Quanzhou for quite some time, and it quickly became one of my favorite cities in China.
Foreign tourists are rare, but Quanzhou is a hidden gem. And I have enough reasons to say that. As the birth place of Fujianese culture and the first Chinese trade ports that opened up to the outside world Quanzhou is the place to find a huge diversity in Fujian Province:

⭕️ Kong Fu and Shaolin Temple
⭕️ Beautifully preserved historical city quarter (UNESCO sites!)
⭕️ Great food, laid back, and stunning landscape
⭕️ Incredibly diverse religion, and you can find temples, mosques, churches...
and the list goes on...

In short, it is a super laid-back city with modern charm, and an ancient soul!
Join me on this adventure :)

Quanzhou, a port city full of maritime memories. The traditional genes of diversity, openness and tolerance have shaped the city's vivid, colorful and vibrant social and cultural landscape. Quanzhou is the Museum of World Religions, where various religions and ethnic groups met and developed across time and space.

Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List on Sunday during the ongoing 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee, which is hosted in Fuzhou, Fujian province. The new entry includes 22 sites and monuments across Quanzhou, which jointly reflect a prosperous picture of maritime trade from the 10th to 14th centuries.

Our first impressions of GUANGZHOU

In this weeks video 'we' head to the capital of Cantonese culture, Guangzhou. We have never been here before so we asked you guys what to do. Unfortunately, this was a solo trip by Jack as I couldn't make it but I did help him out with organising the itinerary, and I'm excited to make it there myself one day.

A visit to World Heritage site Quanzhou in China's Fujian

Historical sites in east China's port city of Quanzhou won UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status in July. Follow Xinhua's Mi Yingting to decode its glory as one of the world's largest ports along the historic Maritime Silk Road hundreds of years ago.

[4K China] Walking In Quanzhou, Historical And Cultural City In Southern China

???? [Intro]
Quanzhou, alternatively known as Chinchew, is a prefecture-level port city on the north bank of the Jin River, beside the Taiwan Strait in southern Fujian, China. It is Fujian's largest metropolitan region, with an area of 11,245 square kilometers (4,342 sq mi) and a population of 8,782,285 as of the 2020 census. Its built-up area is home to 6,669,711 inhabitants, encompassing the Licheng, Fengze, and Luojiang urban districts; Jinjiang, Nan'an, and Shishi cities; Hui'an County; and the Quanzhou District for Taiwanese Investment. Quanzhou was China's 12th-largest extended metropolitan area in 2010.

Quanzhou was China's major port for foreign traders, who knew it as Zaiton,[a] during the 11th through 14th centuries. It was visited by both Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta; both travelers praised it as one of the most prosperous and glorious cities in the world. It was the naval base from which the Mongol attacks on Japan and Java were primarily launched and a cosmopolitan center with Buddhist and Hindu temples, Islamic mosques, and Christian churches, including a Catholic cathedral and Franciscan friaries. A failed revolt prompted a massacre of the city's foreign communities in 1357. Economic dislocations—including piracy and an imperial overreaction to it during the Ming and Qing—reduced its prosperity, with Japanese trade shifting to Ningbo and Zhapu and other foreign trade restricted to Guangzhou. Quanzhou became an opium-smuggling center in the 19th century but the siltation of its harbor hindered trade by larger ships.

Because of its importance for medieval maritime commerce, unique mix of religious buildings, and extensive archeological remains, the old town of Quanzhou was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021.
