Qatar's $500BN Transformation | 2030 Future MegaProjects & FIFA World Cup

Qatar is investing over $300 billion in infrastructure megaprojects across the country before the 2022 FIFA World Cup. A few of the projects, however, will not be finished until after the World Cup due to troubles from the Qatari government at securing loans.
The megaprojects examined in this video are the following: Lusail City development including the Katara Hotel, the Amphibious 1000 Resort, the Silver Pearl Hotel, the Doha Metro, Hamad International Airport, and New Port Project.

Amphibious 1000 is a 500 million dollar project by Giancarlo Zema Design Group (GZDG) for the construction of a semi-submerged island in the protected area off the coast of Qatar. At the futuristic resort, you can stay at one of 80 Jelly-Fish floating suites. The suites can accommodate up to six people comfortably, with 5 floors connected by a spiral staircase. On the lower level, 3 meters below sea level, you can enjoy a submersed panoramic room, overlooking the sea.
The resort features 20-meter yachts, equipped with hydrogen engine sand underwater viewing globes. The lowest level, at 3.00meters (9.8 ft) below sea level, guests can enjoy their very own private aquarium lounge.

The Silver Pearl Hotel A deluxe hotel resembling two half moons on the horizon will be built a mile off the coast of Doha in Qatar at a cost of just over £1billion.
The Silver Pearl Hotel, designed by New York-based firm M. Castedo Architects, is set to have more than 1000 rooms and an adjoining expo center, has been scheduled for completion ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But most stunning will be its stainless steel and glass exterior, which will reflect in the ocean to sparkle like a pearl at night.

Hamad International Airport's renovation involves the expansion of Hamad international airport passenger terminal located at Doha, Qatar. The project includes annual capacity from 24 million to 53 million passengers per year. Meinhardt is providing engineering design services for 3-storey terminal building expansion, concourse D&E, expansion of baggage handling, terminal metro station, substructure for future connection to satellite terminal, underground services tunnel, and utilities.

The Doha Metro is a rapid transit system currently under construction in Doha, Qatar's capital city, that is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2018. It will have four lines with an approximate overall length of 300 km and 100 stations. It will be an integral component of the larger Qatar Rail network, which will include a long-distance rail for passengers and freight, linking Qatar to the GCC, and the Lusail LRT. Capable of reaching 100km/h, the Doha Metro will be one of the fastest driverless trains in the world.

Saudi Arabia’s $1 Trillion Transformation | 2030 Future MegaProjects and Proposals

Saudi Arabia is investing $1 trillion in infrastructure projects across the country. The majority of the megaprojects should be completed by 2030.

King Abdullah City:
With a total development area of 173 km² (66.8 sq mi), the city is located along the coast of the Red Sea, around 100 km north of Jeddah, the commercial hub of Saudi Arabia. The city is also approximately an hour and 20 minutes away from the city of Mecca, 3 hours from Medina by car and an hour away from all Middle Eastern capital cities by plane. The total cost of the city is around SR 207 billion, with the project being built by Emaar Properties. A Tadawul-listed company created from Emaar Properties, a Dubai-based public joint stock company and one of the world’s largest real estate companies, and SAGIA (Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority) which is the main facilitator of the project.[citation needed]

The city, along with another five economic cities, is a part of an ambitious 10x10 program to place Saudi Arabia among the world's top ten competitive investment destinations by the year 2010, planned by SAGIA. The first stage of the city is completed in 2010 and the whole city is planned to be fully completed by 2020. The city aims to diversify the nation's oil-based economy by bringing direct foreign and domestic investments. The city is also aspires to help create up to one million jobs. Upon completion, KAEC is said to be larger than Washington DC.

Riyadh Metro:
The Riyadh Metro is a rapid transit system under construction in the city of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. It will consist of six metro lines spanning a total length of 176 kilometers, with 85 stations. The project will cost $22.5 billion to build. Jeddah Economic City will host both commercial and residential development including homes, hotels, and offices.

The centerpiece of the development will be Jeddah Tower, planned to be the tallest building in the world upon its completion. The entire project is estimated to cost $20 billion (SR75 billion). Jeddah Economic City is a three-phase project. Jeddah Tower will be built in phase one, infrastructure for the project will be created in phase two, the third phase will be the profits.

Al-Haram Mosque Expansion:
In 2008, the Saudi government under King Abdullah Ibn Abdulaziz announced an expansion of the mosque, involving the expropriation of land to the north and northwest of the mosque covering 300,000 square meters (3,200,000 sq ft). At that time, the mosque covered an area of 356,800 square meters (3,841,000 sq ft) including indoor and outdoor praying spaces. 40 billion riyals (US$10.6 billion) was allocated for the expansion project.

World's Weirdest Skyscraper | The Tulip in London

The Tulip, a planned 305m skyscraper in London's Central Business District, would have been London's second tallest building. Designed by Foster + Partners, the tower was to serve as a 360 degree observation towers for tourists. The Tulip was to feature glass skybridges, glass gondola rides and glass pods seating. The tower was rejected by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, after being initially approved by the city's Planning and Transportation Committee. The Tulip would definitely have counted as one of the world's most peculiar skyscrapers.

China's DRONE ONLY City of the Future - $5 Billion Megaproject

Scandinavian firm Henning Larsen is collaborating with two Chinese consortiums to design a two-square-mile business district for Shenzhen, known as Shenzhen Bay Downtown.

Henning Larsen will create the city centre with Chinese consortiums Shenzhen Cube Architecture and Swooding Architects, plus the Urban Planning & Design Institute of Shenzhen and Why Art Projects SL, after the three teams were named winners of a design competition.

Named Shenzhen Bay Headquarters City, the masterplan aims to create a new district on the waterfront that would become the new centre of the city in southeast China.
The district, which will contain offices and three signature towers, is being created to attract companies to move their headquarters to the city. The architects will now collaborate with the government to refine the proposal.

Our design aims to make Shenzhen the waterfront city it should always have been, said Claude Godefroy, design director of Henning Larsen's Hong Kong office.

Alongside offices, the development will contain conference facilities and cultural venues, the largest of which will be located on the waterfront.

To create an attractive waterfront we brought commercial and cultural facilities meters away from the seashore, so citizens will finally be able to enjoy the atmosphere of Shenzhen Bay in an activated urban environment, like in Sydney, Singapore or Copenhagen.
