Praia (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpɾajɐ], Portuguese for beach) is the capital and largest city of Cape Verde] Located on the southern coast of Santiago island, within the Sotavento Islands group, the city is the seat of the Praia Municipality. Praia is the economic, political, and cultural center of Cape Verde.
Due to its strategic position on a plateau it had better protection against pirate attacks, which gave it a large advantage over the older city of Ribeira Grande (Cidade Velha). It gradually superseded Cidade Velha to become the most important settlement of Cape Verde, and became the capital of Cape Verde in 1770.

???????? Plateau is the historic center of the capital of Praia, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It receives its name (from the French plateau) for being located in a plateau overlooking the port of Praia. Its average elevation is 37 meters above sea level. [1] Plateau's population was 1,019 at the 2010 census. Many public buildings are located in the Plateau, including the Presidential Palace, the cathedral, the City Hall and the Ethnographic Museum.
Praia was founded as a small village near the natural harbor in the early 16th century. Due to its strategic position on a plateau, it was easily defended against pirate attacks, which gave it a great advantage over the old city of Ribeira Grande (Cidade Velha). It gradually replaced Cidade Velha to become the most important settlement in Cape Verde, and became the seat of the colonial government in 1770. In the course of the 19th century, the Plateau was completely rebuilt with streets according to a square plan, aligned with large colonial buildings and mansions. Since 2016, the historic center of Praia has been on the provisional list of World Heritage sites.

Sua elevação média é de 37 metros acima do nível do mar. [1] A população de Plateau era 1.019 no censo de 2010. Muitos edifícios públicos estão situados no Plateau, nomeadamente o Palácio Presidencial, a catedral, a Câmara Municipal e o Museu Etnográfico.
Praia foi fundada como uma pequena aldeia perto do porto natural no início do século XVI. Devido à sua posição estratégica num planalto era facilmente defendida contra ataques piratas, o que lhe conferia uma grande vantagem sobre a antiga cidade da Ribeira Grande (Cidade Velha). Gradualmente substituiu a Cidade Velha para se tornar o assentamento mais importante de Cabo Verde, e tornou-se a sede do governo colonial em 1770. No decorrer do século 19, o Planalto foi completamente reconstruído com ruas de acordo com uma planta quadrada, alinhada com grandes edifícios coloniais e mansões. Desde 2016, o centro histórico da Praia está na lista provisória de sítios do Patrimônio Mundial.

No vlog de hoje vamos percorrer as principais vias dos bairros de Fonton e Fundu Kobon.
São bairros que ficam na periferia da cidade da Praia em Cabo Verde. Há menos de cinco anos esses bairros não possuíam praticamente nenhuma estrutura básica de saneamento, acesso, infraestrutura desportiva e de lazer, entretanto, hoje, devido a recentes intervenções da Câmara Municipal, a zona ganhou um novo visual, dando assim melhor qualidade de vida e vista mais atraente aos moradores e visitantes. Uma das maiores intervenções tem a ver com o sistema de drenagem de águas pluviais e esgoto que melhorou muito a situação do bairro em conjunto com a estrada e arruamento.
Mas não somente. O bairro ganhou também várias outros equipamentos de uso público tais como: parque infantil, parque de lazer, campo de futebol, etc., que permitem um ambiente mais saudável e agradável.
Além desses, agora, Fonton e Fundu Kobon contam com uma linha de autocarro que as ligam à Sucupira e Plateau, e isso melhorou consideravelmente a dinâmica local.
Intensificou-se também a aposta nas plantações e áreas verdes, pois a zona de Fonton sempre possuiu nascentes de água e hortas que inclusive foi e ainda é sustento de muitas famílias. Venha conhecer os principais pontos desses bairros.
