Mystery Island & Aneityum - Vanuatu - Carnival Spirit Cruise 2019 / 2020

Mystery Island is a small uninhabited islet off Aneityum, the southernmost island in Vanuatu. Join us as we are welcomed by the locals into a traditional village, and see the way they live. Then, dive underwater as we take in the beauty of the coral reef that surrounds Mystery Island. It's day 6 of our Carnival Spirit New Year Cruise.

If you love what we do, why not shout us a hot beverage?

We began this Carnival Cruise the day before new year's eve 2019. It was a wonderful adventure, and a great way to see in 2020, a year that had more in store for us than we could have guessed.

We embark on the 30th of December 2019. Of course, things don't always go to plan, but when you're cruising, you just roll with it.

Join us on this exciting adventure. Think of it as a virtual cruise. I hope you have as much fun as we did.

Mystery Island Vanuatu (Carnival Cruise)

Mystery Island is ringed by a whole number of beautiful white sand beaches. Since it takes just half-an-hour to walk around the whole island, you can take your pick and find your ideal spot. Many passengers choose to stay close to the tender pier and the facilities; others disperse to find a more secluded place. There are lots of shady spots, under tall palm trees, perfect for a relaxing day. Snorkellers will be delighted by the pristine nature of the reefs offshore and it’s possible to see a whole variety of sea life, including barracudas, clown fish, parrot fish, turtles and even seahorses.

We always have fun filming new things for you guys and showing you places to go.

Snorkelling at Mystery Island, Vanuatu - Carnival Splendor Shore Day!

Mystery Island, Vanuatu, is a small island located in the south. The island is typically uninhabited, though residents of neighbouring Aneityum journey across on days that cruise ships visit.

Coconut-laden palm trees line white-sand beaches and pristine waters with a protected marine reserve where you’ll find turtles, fish, stingrays, and amazing coral.

There's also a range of activities and tours provided both by the Carnival Splendor and the locals.
There's paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, sunbaking, and snorkelling.
You can get a relaxing massage, get your hair braided, or try some fresh, local produce.
The beach markets have a range of souvenirs to purchase.

This was our first visit to Mystery Island. Although still only technically Vanuatu, we still plan to add it to our list of countries visited. Today was all about the snorkelling for us.
We were warned about a strong current around the Island, so we focused on finding a suitable snorkelling site. Our first spot was at the end of the runway. The coral here was amazing with plenty of fish. The current turned it into a crazy trip racing across the top of the coral. We tried to make ourselves as thin as we could as the threat of cutting ourselves on the coral was foremost in our minds. It didn't help that Annette only had one flipper (after one was broken the previous day).
The experience was both scary and exhilarating, so we did it twice.
After that, we tried several spots along the jetty side of the Island but they were not very good. Apparently, a cyclone earlier this year had damaged the coral on this side.
The last spot we tried was at the opposite end of the Island. The coral here was much better and the fish were abundant. However, the current made it very tiring to avoid being sucked out to sea.
We definitely plan to come back again and hopefully the current will not be as strong.

Thank you for watching.

Ovation Of The Seas Day 5 | Mystery Island, Vanuatu

Welcome to day 5 on Ovation Of The Seas to the South Pacific (26th Feb 2020). Check out lunch in the Windjammer, the running track, the gym, The Big Music Game Show. We also celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary in the Main Dining Room.

We were having such a great time on the ship that we didn't get off to explore Mystery Island as we have been there before. If you are in to snorkelling this is a good place to do that and also discover the little market that the locals put on for Cruise lines.

Guide to Mystery Island, Vanuatu

A Rainy Day in MYSTERY Island, Vanuatu - CRUISE Part 3 // Ovation of the Seas

Come along with us as we explore what was easily our favorite port of the cruise… Mystery Island, Vanuatu!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hey guys! It's Abbey!

I have to admit, when I first saw Mystery Island from the window while I was eating breakfast, I didn’t think of much of it. I just knew it was too tiny and that it would be ridiculously crowded with people from the ship. In fact, it was so small that the ship had to anchor at sea and ferry people to and from the island using the life boats. Nonetheless, I was excited to see the island, so off we went despite the rain. I was not prepared for it to be my favorite port visit of the ENTIRE cruise! It was so beautiful, and the locals were so nice! The water was so clear, and we were kicking ourselves for not renting any snorkel gear. I so wish we had more time there, and I would definitely love to go back on a nice, long, sunny day! Even though it was raining, we spent a lot of time in the water swimming around and chasing fish, even though we could barely see them with out goggles. We were thrilled to find that we actually captured some of them on the GoPro since we couldn’t really see what we were filming. There were times while we were on the island that felt like we were the only two people there, and I was really surprised by that since it was so small. It was an amazing experience! I just wish I could have filmed more to share with all of you!

Enjoy!

Convict Ruins in Paradise - Isle of Pines - Carnival Spirit Cruise Vlog 2020

Today we visit Isle of Pines, a tropical paradise in New Caledonia. We'll be delving into the convict history of this island, learning about the communard rebels who were sent here, and seeing the places where they lived and died. We'll also journey underwater into the mysterious world of fish, and never have I seen such colourful fish as those on Isle of Pines.

Today's cruise vlog is brought to you by my books Jewel of The Stars. A cruise ship in space on the run from an alien amarda.

First time traveling to the South Pacific Ocean (Carnival Cruise) Day 5 at Mystery island

Mystery Island is a tiny, uninhabited island 10 mn away by boat from the big island called Aneityum situated in Tafea Province, Vanuatu. Tiny Inyeug (Mystery) Island can be reach only via cruises ships, local boats and by planes (Air Vanuatu) 3 times a week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from Port Vila and Tanna landing. You can take a leisurely stroll around the island for about 40 minutes. This incredibly beautiful conglomeration of pure white sand, palm trees and coral reefs provides the perfect place to relax and unwind. The Island itself has remained virtually untouched. The indigenous name of Mystery Island is Inyeug. According to the locals, the island was changed to Mystery Island because a reporter writing about Queen Elizabeth’s II 1974 visit kept asking for the name of the small island that she visited. The reporter was told the name is “Inyeug” meaning “Small Island”. After his own version of “Who is on First” (What is the name of that small island? “Inyeug”, “Small Island”!) The newspaper’s headline read “Her Majesty visits Mystery Island” for sure sold more papers than “Her Majesty visits Small Island”. The tourist that followed came to see Mystery Island not Small Island. The name Mystery Island has stuck and is used widely by the tourist and Cruise industry. Mystery Island itself has some modern amenities for cruises passengers such as newly jetty recently build in April, 2016. With the new jetty, it could now accommodate at least four tender boats that transfer tourists from the cruise ship to the island. The new jetty will assist and ease the movements of tourists from the cruise liners to Mystery Island, and to and back from the mainland. The old jetty used to accommodate only one transfer boat from the cruise ship has been decommissioned. There are no roads and no vehicles but have some tourism products on the island to accommodate the cruise ship passengers on cruise’s days.
