My visit to Plovdiv is the next stop on my trip trough Central Bulgaria. This was my first time in Bulgaria and I was blown away by the many great places in Plovdiv. Plovdiv is the oldest city in Europe, a truly historic city in Southeastern Europe and one can easily explore it by foot. If you enjoy a good walk through the streets of Eastern Europe, I have put together a great walking tour that will cover the most important things to see in Plovdiv. Plovdiv (Bulgarian: Пловдив) is the second-largest city in Bulgaria, with a population of about 350,000 and is the cultural capital of Bulgaria. Plovdiv and its iconic hills have been inhabited for 8,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously settled cities in the world. Plovdiv was known by the name Philippopolis after Philip II of Macedon. Its rich cultural life, beautiful ancient setting, and laid back atmosphere attract many foreigners but it’s a popular weekend destination for Bulgarians as well. Plovdiv – is an Art and Cultural city, and the second largest city in #Bulgaria with population of 350 000 people. This is the first Bulgarian city chosen to host the European Capital of Culture in 2019.
With its cultural and historical heritage dating back 8000 years, Plovdiv is one of the oldest or it may be even the oldest inhabited city in Europe. It also ranks mong the six oldest cities in the World.
In this video I am going to take you to the most epic historical sites of Plovdiv and I am going to tell you a little bit of history about Plovdiv and the main attractions featured in this video: Bunardzhik Tepe and the Monument of Aliosha, The Bishop’s Basilica, The Small Basilica, The Old Town Of Plovdiv (including Nebet Tepe, the Craft’s Street, the Regional Ethnographic Museum, The Roman Theatre, St, Constantine and Elena Church, The Fortress Gate Hisar Kapia, The Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts, and The Pharmacy Museum), the Old Stadium, Dzhumaya Mosque, the city centre of Plovdiv (including modern landmarks like the Together sign and the monument of Milyo), The main pedestrian street, the Music Fountains at the City Garden Of Plovdiv, and finally the food quarter Kapana.

Plovdiv is an incredible place to visit & hopefully my travel vlog will show you why. It’s a safe, intriguing city with a perfect blend of modern infrastructure and historical wonders. I explored from the old town of Plovdiv which is an architectural reserve, down to the colossal Roman stadium in the heart of Plovdiv city centre.
Situated on and around seven syenite hills, the city sprung up from a small settlement over 8,000 years ago and is one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited cities. I had no idea what to expect but my first day was packed with awesome sights, ancient history, trendy streets, recently unearthed ruins and one heck of a storm! The history is intense with Roman amphitheatres and stadiums, as well as a variety of houses built during Ottoman rule.
Plovdiv is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bulgaria and after just a few hours I could see why. It's regularly listed as one of the best places to visit in Bulgaria and a good distance from other important attractions such as Sofia and the Rila Mountains - both being easy day trips. Old Plovdiv is beautiful, Kapana remains trendy and fashionable whilst the seven hills are more than worth a visit - more on that in the next video!

Walking Tour Plovdiv, Bulgaria - The Oldest City in Europe (Capital of Culture) 4K 60FPS
In today’s video you will be enjoying the beautiful streets of the picturesque city of Plovdiv also known as “The City of the Seven Hills”. Plovdiv is the oldest continually inhabited city in Europe (for approximately 8000 years) and is Bulgaria’s Culture Capital!
Starting point “Tsar Simeon’s Garden” - a place to relax under the old trees in the day and to observe the “Singing Fountains” water and light show at night.
The general vibe of the city is amazingly relaxed - you can see this from the footage of the Central Square and the Main High Street ( 1.8 kilometres long ) as it perfectly unites ancient and modern. The road is filled with magnificent buildings, hotels, clothing stores and quite the charming cafes, fine dining restaurants and bars.
At the heart of the high street parts of the Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis can be seen - built back in Roman times and the large “Dzhumaya” Mosque to the right of it.

Hey everyone, in this vlog we explore Europe's oldest city Plovdiv & get to try some great food this city has to offer! We were quite amazed by this city, just to give you some insight, we visited Kapana - the trendy district of Plovdiv, the ancient Roman Stadium, Ancient Theater of Plovdiv, The Watch Tower - great view overlooking the city and last but not least the Old Town! This city has so much to offer!
Two restaurants that stood out and had some great vegan options: Sushi Lovers & Smokini (Recommended by our host in Plovdiv, very cozy setting/romantic)

Europe's Oldest City - Plovdiv Bulgaria BG
In my previous Plovdiv vlog, I explored the arty, hip Kapana district of Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
In this vlog, I head over to the old town. Whilst just minutes away from Kapana, the old town couldn't be any more different. Here you can find houses from the old Ottoman era and head up to one Plovdiv's many hills. It is one the hills where excavations found evidence that people lived here 8,000 years ago!
I also head out to explore more of Plovdiv's Roman ruins, including some in the most unusual of settings.
Fans of mosaic art will enjoy the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis museum where you can see the remains of some incredible mosaic floors.

PLOVDIV - the Oldest Continuously Inhabited City in Europe
Plovdiv is a city in south-central Bulgaria. It's the second largest city in Bulgaria and is located on the Maritsa River. Plovdiv is known as The City of the Seven Hills because it developed on seven syenite hills. The city has a history of almost 8,000 years and claims to be the oldest continually inhabited city in Europe. Even older than Athens and Rome!
Philippopolis was an ancient city in the modern city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It was founded in 342 BCE by Philip II of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great. Philippopolis was ruled by Thracians, Macedonians, and Romans.
In Plovdiv, we went on a walking tour of the Old City. It was challenging to walk on the cobbled streets of what was the ancient City of Philippopolis. Visited the Ethnographic Museum and the impressive Roman Amphitheater constructed in the 1st century AD.
In the modern day city of Plovdiv, we walked the longest pedestrian street in Europe, the Main Pedestrian Street in the city center. A local's favorite place for walking around, shopping, eating, drinking and for tourists, sightseeing and souvenir shops.
