Peacocks, which are male peafowl, have a total of about 200 colorful feathers called train feathers or tail feathers. These feathers are highly elongated and are decorated with distinctive eye spots that are often displayed in a spectacular fan-like pattern during courtship displays. However, it's important to note that peahens, which are female peafowl, do not have these elaborate tail feathers and their plumage is generally more subdued in color and pattern.

Peacock Mating Dance. Peacock Dancing in Park. Peacock Calling Peahen. Amazing Dance Performance.
Why peacock Dance?
Peacocks don't dance because it is raining. To attract a mate, peacocks perform an elaborate dance to show of their tail feathers to a peahen. ... There is no denying that peacocks are some of the most beautiful (and slightly bizarre) animals on the planet.
Why do peacocks open their feathers?
No matter the species of peacock, these colorful creatures boast impressively sized and patterned plumage that they fan out for display purposes. It isn't an act of vanity, though -- peacocks fan out their feathers as part of a courtship ritual to attact a mate

What is the story behind peacock?

In Greek Mythology, the peacock was believed to have sprung from the blood of Argos Panoptes, the hundred-eyed giant. Later accounts state that it was Hera who, upon the death of Argos, placed his eyes in the peacock's tail herself or—alternately—turned Argos into a peacock. ... But peacocks did more than foretell death.

Why do peacocks cry?

Peacocks are very noisy during the breeding season, especially when they call with repeated penetrating screams. Not only do they scream but the male makes a unique call just before he mates with a female. ... Why do male peacocks do this? The sound gives away their location and could tell predators, “

Is White peacock real?

Yes, there are white peacocks and now there's video. White peacocks are not albinos. They actually have a genetic mutation that is known as Leucism, which causes the lack of pigments in the plumage. A white peacock is technically a genetic variant of the Indian Blue Peafowl

Do peacocks attack humans?

While peacocks might not be able to bite as severely as dogs can, they do still attack, especially during mating season. Peacocks can scratch, peck and jump on people, and are more likely to attack small children. The birds are large enough to push someone over and cause major disruption, especially on a plane.

How do Peacocks Mate and Reproduce?

Peafowl have an elaborate and beautiful mating ritual.  “Peafowl” is the proper term that refers to the species of birds with the term “peacock” reserved for the males and “peahen” for the females.
The peafowl mating season begins in the spring when peacocks aggregate into small territories known as a ‘lek’.  The purpose of the lek is thought to increase the number of potential peahen arriving per peacock.  Peacocks are polygamous by nature, often having several partners during the season, and after courtship and mating. Once banded together in a lek, the males give off loud courtship calls that can travel several miles.  Peahen typically stroll through several of these territories and survey the displays by the peacocks to choose a mate.

7 most beautiful peacock in the world! #nature

The peacock, scientifically known as Pavo cristatus, is one of the most stunning and visually captivating birds found in various parts of the world. Renowned for its majestic plumage, the peacock is widely recognized for its vibrant colors and elaborate display during courtship rituals. With its iridescent feathers and graceful demeanor, the peacock has become a symbol of beauty and elegance. The most distinctive feature of the peacock is its magnificent tail, known as a train. The train consists of long, extravagant feathers that are adorned with striking patterns and colors. These feathers, or coverts, are mainly in shades of blue and green, with iridescent hues that shimmer and change in the light. The vibrant blue color, known as peacock blue, dominates the upper portion of the train, while the lower part showcases a mesmerizing blend of green and bronze. These captivating hues are the result of a unique optical phenomenon called structural coloration, where the microscopic structure of the feathers reflects light in a way that creates an array of colors.Apart from the blues and greens, the peacock's train also features hints of gold, black, and even white. The eye-catching eyespots or ocelli found on the feathers are predominantly black and surrounded by a distinctive ring of bright blue or green. These eyespots are crucial during courtship displays, as the peacock spreads its train into a magnificent fan, showcasing its colors and creating a mesmerizing spectacle to attract potential mates. While the male peacock displays these breathtaking colors, the female, called a peahen, possesses more subdued plumage. Peahens have a mix of brown, gray, and green feathers, providing them with effective camouflage for nesting and protecting their young. This stark contrast between the male and female plumage is a classic example of sexual dimorphism, where the males exhibit extravagant characteristics to attract mates, while the females prioritize practicality. In conclusion, the peacock is a bird of extraordinary beauty, renowned for its resplendent and vibrant colors. Its iridescent blue and green plumage, adorned with eyespots and a striking train, make it one of the most captivating creatures in the avian kingdom. The peacock's colors serve as a testament to the wonders of nature and its ability to create breathtaking works of art in the form of living creatures.

Cape Canaveral Peacocks

When in Florida and we visit one of the restaurants in Port Canaveral, we like to finish the day by driving through the harbor Heights neighborhood in Cape Canaveral. This neighborhood is known for the wild peafowl which roam the streets. Harbor Heights is located just off North Atlantic Avenue across from the Circle K Shell station. If you look closely you might see these peafowl wondering some of the adjacent neighborhoods, but we've had the best viewing in Harbor Heights. If you drive through this area, be very mindful and courteous as this is a residential neighborhood. You should not park on the side of the road or in the middle of the street, and make sure you are not backing up traffic as you drive through.

Peacocks seen in IberoStar Beach hotels sorroudings.

Peacocks, also known as peafowl, are medium sized birds most closely related to pheasants. Peacocks inhabit warm climates of the Southern Hemisphere. All peacocks are believed to have originated in Asia, but they now inhabit Africa and parts of Australia. They are most common in India. Peacocks live in deserts, dry savannas, forests and dense foliage areas.

There are three main types of peacock, the Indian peacock, the African Congo peacock and the Green peacock. All three peacock species are known for the elaborately colored feathers and tales of male peacocks. Female peacocks are dull brown.

The giant tail feathers of male peacocks, called coverts, spread out in a distinctive train of over 60 percent of the peacock’s body length. It has vibrant eye shaped markings of blue, red, gold and other colors. Microscopic, crystal-like structures in the feathers reflect different wavelengths of light creating the bright, fluorescent colors.

The train of a peacock is used for mating and defense. Male peacocks attract female peacocks by showing off this array of elaborate feathers. When threatened, they also fan their tails out in order to look larger and intimidating. When the peacock quivers his feathers, they emit a low-frequency sound inaudible to humans. The peacock can change the sound to communicate different messages. Male peacocks shed their train each year after mating season.

Peacock in my backyard

The male peacock is brightly coloured, with a predominantly blue fan-like crest of spatula-tipped wire-like feathers and is best known for the long train made up of elongated upper-tail covert feathers which bear colourful eyespots. These stiff feathers are raised into a fan and quivered in a display during courtship. Despite the length and size of these covert feathers, peacocks are still capable of flight. Peahens lack the train, and have a greenish lower neck and duller brown plumage. The Indian peafowl lives mainly on the ground in open forest or on land under cultivation where they forage for berries, grains but also prey on snakes, lizards, and small rodents. Their loud calls make them easy to detect, and in forest areas often indicate the presence of a predator such as a tiger. They forage on the ground in small groups and usually try to escape on foot through undergrowth and avoid flying, though they fly into tall trees to roost.
