Deadliest Journeys - Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is one of the world's last lawless lands lying 150 kilometres north of Australia. The town of Lae is the economic capital of the country here it more commonly goes by the name Pothole city.

It's a sorry sight with its battered roads it's packed mini buses and it's extreme levels of poverty. In the streets uncertainty reigns and the police are ineffective trying to keep law and order the locals call upon private security companies.

Papua New Guinea has one of the highest crime rates on the planet. Papua New Guinea is an island half as big as France but with a road network that practically does not exist. There are just 3 main roads that are barely tarmac and yet road transport is vital for the country.

When my trip to Papua New Guinea was approved to happen, I honestly had no idea what to expect.

The first things that came to mind were tribes painted and dressed in traditional wear, and climbing through thick jungles. Since I was there as an ambassador to an NGO, I also expected to be mostly in meetings. I subconsciously hoped there would be some nice beaches, but since I hadn’t seen much posted about that, I didn’t think much about it.

Then, after meeting with the team members at @pngtribalfoundation, and hearing how they’re helping others, and what kind of help I could do as an influencer, I was taken to Duke of York Islands, where my mind was absolutely blown, and my mission became clear!

Imagine me not knowing an island-hopping tour was planned, complete with an unexpected visit from a hundred dolphins!!

I remember thinking “THIS is what people need to see and think of when they hear ‘Papua New Guinea’, not ‘It’s Dangerous’”. And so here we are ????

Every country has danger and safety issues. You all probably know this already, but I’m more scared to be in USA than the majority of countries I go to, including PNG. So let’s stop associating Papua New Guinea with danger, and start to highlight its incredible beauty as well, shall we?

What countries have you visited that everyone said was dangerous and turned out to be incredible?

Also, fun fact! If you look closely, the kids where I was cliff jumping have mostly blond hair, and that is a common gene in this area of PNG! They also looked very concerned after I jumped since there was only a small clearing amongst the coral (prob the most “danger” I had the whole trip ????????)

For difficult logistical purposes, I still only recommend going to PNG with an established company like PNG Tribal Foundation. More info on my blog!

I've made it safely to my 134th country - PAPUA NEW GUINEA! The last 48 hours here in PNG have been nothing short of incredible. I am truly amazed by how culturally and linguistically diverse Papua New Guinea is -- 12% of all the world's spoken languages are here! And not to mention, the stunning landscapes of green mountains, rolling foothills and white sanded beaches.

It's like an unexplored wonderland, and I couldn't be happier to be here right now! Papua New Guinea is the world's last frontier.

I got in touch with a friend of a friend, Bruce, who has let me crash at his place and he has driven me all over the country. This video gives you an inside look at my perspectives of Papua New Guinea and some of the interesting things I've learned so far about this remote country.

Have you ever been to Papua New Guinea? Have any other tips of things to see/do while here?

MAP OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA

hello my friends. this is a map of Papua new guinea. The mainland of the country is the eastern half of New Guinea island, where the largest towns are also located, including Port Moresby, (the capital) , and Lae; other major islands within Papua New Guinea include New Ireland, New Britain, Manus and Bougainville.

Located north of the Australian mainland, the country's geography is diverse and, in places, extremely rugged. A spine of mountains, the New Guinea Highlands, runs the length of the island of New Guinea, forming a populous highlands region mostly covered with tropical rainforest, and the long Papuan Peninsula, known as the 'Bird's Tail'. Dense rainforests can be found in the lowland and coastal areas as well as very large wetland areas surrounding the Sepik and Fly rivers. This terrain has made it difficult for the country to develop transportation infrastructure. This has made it so that air travel is often the most efficient and reliable means of transportation. The highest peak is Mount Wilhelm at 4,509 metres. Papua New Guinea is surrounded by coral reefs which are under close watch, in the interests of preservation. Papua New Guinea's largest rivers are in New Guinea and include Sepik, Ramu, Markham, Musa, Purari, Kikori, Turama, Wawoi and Fly. thats all. please comment and subscribe for the best maps. goodbye.

#papua #papuaindonesia #papuanewguinea #mapschool #mapsolo #petamap #cartemap #mapamap #kartemap
