The country contains approximately 340 islands, and together with parts of the Federated States of Micronesia, forms the western chain of the Caroline Islands. Palau is a nation of islands in the Pacific Ocean, situated approximately 800 km east of the Philippines. This country obtained its independence in 1994, thus becoming one of the youngest nations on the planet; for this reason, even its name is unknown to many travellers… except perhaps to divers!
With over 200 islands, Palau offers one of the best sites for diving in the world. The underwater relief is exceptional, containing virtually everything that a diver would hope to find: canyons, underwater tunnels, caves and lagoons... but also sharks and manta rays!

Island of Koror in Palau, top sites to see and visit in the island of Palau in the Pacific Ocean! Here's a tour of the island of Koror in Palau in the western Pacific Ocean where I spent 4 days. Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. Koror consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island. The state of Koror contains about 70% of the population of the country.
Koror, formerly Corrora, one of the Caroline Islands that is part of Palau. The island of Koror lies in the western Pacific Ocean just southwest of Babelthuap island. Koror city served as the provisional capital of Palau until 2006, when the capital was moved to Melekeok in eastern Babelthuap. Partly uplifted coralline limestone and partly volcanic in origin, Koror has a land area of 3 square miles (8 square km) and rises to 459 feet (140 metres).

Blue Corner Palau, the Best Dive Site in the Pacific You Can't miss
Blue Corner in Palau is probably one of the best dive sites in the world and should not be missed when you visit Palau.
With visibility ranging from 45-60 feet on an outgoing tide to 90+ feet on an incoming tide, it is typical to spot all the action coming at you from all around on any given day.
Because of the strong currents at Blue corner is the perfect place to use your reef hook. The reef hook (invented in Palau) is used to keep you safe in one place and to reduce your air consumption, exertion and ultimately to save the reefs from damaging.
When hooked in it’s like standing in the wind and letting the breeze flow over you. Meanwhile, as you relax and stay still the more the action creeps closer and glides along in the currents formed along the reef wall.
