PROS and CONS of living in NEW ZEALAND (Auckland) 2022

If you are new to our channel, HELLO! Thanks for watching our video.

We are Renata, Josh, and Gaia a Kiwi/English family, living in Auckland, New Zealand. Josh and I have always had a love for travel, and we did a lot of travelling together before having Gaia in 2020 (when the world shut down for a bit).

With our borders being closed for the past two years, we haven't travelled with Gaia as much as we imagined, so in May 2022 we quit our jobs to pursuit our dream of full time travel with our toddler. It is only a few days now until we are getting on our first long haul (10.5 hour) flight to start that adventure.

If you'd like to hear more about our plans, you can check out these two videos:
Quitting Our Jobs:
Preparing for full time travel:

Josh & I are both probably a bit biased towards New Zealand, as we absolutely love this country, and feel very lucky to live here. We know that not all kiwi's have the same experience of living in New Zealand, and this is just our personal opinion on what the big pros and cons are.

We hope that you enjoy this video anyway, and that it shares some insight on what living in NZ is really like. If you do enjoy it, please make sure you click the SUBSCRIBE button, and give this video a thumbs up so we know what kind of videos to make in future.

“Out of the 99,300 non-New Zealanders that arrived here last year, 28,000 left and 71,000 stayed. New Zealand population statistics manager Peter Dolan said the cooling in net migration last year was a result of the increase in those leaving the country after migrating here in the past.

PROS and CONS of living in New Zealand

Kia Ora everyone ????

If you're visiting our channel for the first time, my wife Yen and I are local Kiwi Asians making content from our home city of Auckland, New Zealand and from around the world too. I (Peter) migrated to New Zealand from China at the age of three and Yen migrated here from Malaysia at the age of four. We've grown up in NZ, went to school in NZ, met and got married in NZ and spent our entire working and adult lives in NZ too.

We make travel and food videos from New Zealand and all around the world so if you like our stuff please consider subscribing, also drop us a comment. We love hearing from everyone and appreciate your support of our channel.

On June 28 2019, we left our jobs to travel the world. You can watch a little on that here ????

This video is from my personal perspective as an Asian who grew up in this country since I was a little kid. Honestly, it is a little biased towards the pros section simply cause I love this country. Both Yen and I get homesick whenever we are away too long. New Zealand is one place that no matter where we are in the world we will always call home.

As it's a pretty detailed topic, for clarification and more details about my comment on free healthcare and education in New Zealand, please see below:

== FREE HEALTHCARE IN NZ ==

- New Zealand has about 40 public hospitals spread across the country. With minor exceptions like cosmetic surgery, hospital treatment is free for those eligible for healthcare services and NZ residents. Waiting lists can be long to receive public healthcare though.

- Most costs of injuries from accidents are covered by ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation). This covers everyone in New Zealand.

- GP (General Practitioner/family doctor) visits have a consultation fee but if you're enrolled with the practice it's generally subsidized so it's cheaper. For more info:

- Under the Talk Teeth programme, children get free basic care for their teeth until they are 18. Otherwise, dentists are not part of the free public health system.

- From birth to five years, all children in New Zealand qualify for a free health service called Well Child/Tamariki Ora. All children under 13 are eligible for free general practice visits (includes immunization, eyesight and hearing checks at school and visits to the doctor). NB: not all GPs provide free visits though so it's best to check with your GP first. Basic dental care through schools are also free while children are at school.

- In New Zealand, publicly funded COVID-19 related care – including diagnosis, testing and treatment – is provided to anyone who requires it, who has symptoms. This is irrespective of citizenship, visa status, nationality or level of medical insurance coverage.

For full details check out:

== FREE EDUCATION IN NZ ==

- Education is free between the ages of 5 and 19 at state schools (schools that are government owned and funded) if you're a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident.

- Private schools get some government funding but are mostly funded through charging parents school fees.

For full details check out:

- One year of tertiary education fees is free for NZ citizens and ordinarily residents enrolled in school in or after 2017 or you may qualify for two years fees free for industry training. Just need to check eligibility:

New Zealand Immigration 2020 pros and cons | Auckland

Pros and cons of living in New Zealand - Immigrant perspective

Music: Ice Tea
Musician: Not the King

Living in New Zealand. The Pros & Cons PODCAST #007

If you have ever thought about leaving your home country and emigrating, I bet New Zealand was on the short list. Since 2010, New Zealand has seen, amongst other nationalities, 10,000 Americans and 42,000 British get off the plane in Auckland or Wellington and prepare to spend their future living in New Zealand.

Some of those immigrants last only a few years; they decide that New Zealand isn't the place for them and head back home. Usually complaining that they can't get decent bacon.

But some, like us, stay and make 'the land of the long white cloud' their home.

Living In New Zealand. The Pros And Cons.

My family (husband and two kids) have been living in New Zealand for the past nine years, we emigrated from the Uk in 2010 and now New Zealand is home. We all love it and are very happy here but there are a few things that can get on your nerves. Apart from the bacon.

This podcast is a discussion between Sonny and I where we look at what we like (and what annoys us) about living in New Zealand.

Sonny says a few things about New Zealand that I don't agree with (like the internet being rubbish?! I don't think it is) but that's the beauty of this Podcast; to get two different perspectives. One from a cocky young buck and the other from a stuck-in-her-ways- old biddy.

For Pinterest ⇓

A few of My Pros Regarding Living in New Zealand:

Outdoor time is a huge priority in New Zealand. When we lived in the Uk people would talk about what new chain had opened up in the high street or whether you had been to the fancy new mall that you had to spend three hours in the carpark queuing to get to.

Living in New Zealand will instead see you talking about the size of the surf, the hiking conditions, if the weather is right for fishing or (and this is a biggie) your kid's sport. This was a bit of a learning curve for me as both my kids are lazy little sods and hate playing sport. We do love hiking as a family though so that solved that little problem.

House prices. We talked about the cost of living in New Zealand in our previous podcast so if you want to know more about prices, go and listen. I also wrote an in-depth blog post about how much wages were and how far your money will go in New Zealand and I recorded a vlog on the subject so I won't speak too much of it now. Let's just say - house price wise - you get a lot more bang for your buck than in the UK.

Some Of The Cons Of Living In New Zealand

So far away. Not sure if this is a con or a pro though. Depends on whether or not I am in favour with the rest of the family.

Time difference. referring to the UK here - America is only (only she says) 18 hours behind, you can still make that work - the UK, on the other hand, is a pain. When you've had a glass of wine at night they are eating their Weetabix, putting their important heads on and mouthing to each other about how they think you're an alcoholic who lives on the other side of the world.

If you want to know more of the things that we like and don't like about living in New Zealand then please take a listen to the podcast. It's twenty minutes long and will be a massive help if you have ever dreamt of packing your bags and heading down under!
