Winter Camping in a Snow Storm - Blizzard Extreme Solo Tent Camp in the North with Heavy Snowfall
Winter camping & backpacking in a snowstorm - heavy snowfall extreme weather forest tent camping in the north, no fire, cold tent, high winds, 25 m/s, 56 mph, 90 km/h.
Cold tent winter camping during a snow storm in the northern wilderness. The forecast said 25m/s or 56mph winds. I choose snow shoes again since it makes filming easier than if I was using skis.
I walked out into the forest in a break in the storm and set up camp, getting ready for the heavy snowstorm that was coming in through the night. It turned into a massive storm but I had found a sheltered place for my camp in the trees. I also built a snow wall to shelter behind for the eastern winds. Quite an interesting trip that ended in a mixture between rain and sleet. Extended version coming soon.

In the middle of a desert, along the Rio Grande River, in the middle of nowhere, is Black Gap Wildlife Management Area. It’s here that you can find a surprising wealth of wildlife such as deer, bear, quail, mountain lion and desert bighorn sheep. But without water, none of these animals could exist here. So biologists build and maintain water catchment devises called guzzlers to help the wildlife. With the aid of game cameras, it’s amazing to see the variety of animals that benefit from the guzzlers.

John Dixon - JD to most - refers to himself as a 1960s model, which means he has decades of safari experience behind him. He is a true legend of the region and knows all the songs to prove his hours spent around campfires! His career spans 35 years and his collection of stories, memories, and (often inappropriate) anecdotes are always told with excellent humour. No one has seen JD's face since the 1980s and we're almost convinced he was born with a grey beard and a cigarette in his mouth. He gave up drinking a few years ago when a bout of malaria knocked his liver for a six and we can say with certainty that trading in the brandy for coke has changed absolutely nothing about JD's fireside manner. What a gem to have on the game viewer and right here on our podcast.
Katherine Kuntz brought her Texan twang to our African campfire, but if we hadn't heard her speak, we'd never guess that this gal wasn't born in the bushveld. Khaki-clad and sporting some quality veldskoen, Katherine is more than ready for her life in the wild. She's a safari guide and a nature enthusiast - something she brings from her childhood appreciation of her native Texan wilderness - and these days she creates journeys for others wanting to travel to the continent. We're in awe of Katherine's Mount Kilimanjaro climb of 2015 and we loved having her around the fire with us, firing off some questions for Brett and JD!

My nights are spent at work....after that my days are spent running errands, getting the chores done, wrapping pug feet, taking short walks, scrubbing the carpet, scrubbing the carpet, and scrubbing the carpet.
By the end of my day, I crawl into bed exhausted. When my pug crawls up next to me, uses my eye socket as his chin rest, and starts his snoring, I know I can get up and do it all again tomorrow.
Because I am in love.
I am in love with a pug.
