LONG LIFE FOOD in Hunza Valley - HEAVEN ON EARTH, Pakistan | Pakistani Food Tour!

SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:
Thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market):

I want to say a massive thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market): Without him, this entire trip wouldn’t have been possible.

Also, thank you to Hunza Serena Inn ( for sponsoring our stay in Hunza Valley.

The goal of today’s food tour was to uncover some of the secrets of the long life food of Hunza Valley. Especially traditionally, people were known to live very long and healthy lives - a combination of eating seasonally, lots of nuts, and apricots, and fresh mountain air - we also discovered a few dishes that must have led to long life.

But we began our day in Gilgit, and first thing at daybreak, we drove about 20 minutes outside of Gilgit to start our morning from a strategic viewpoint. There’s a confluence where three of the highest mountain ranges in the world - Himalayas (Mount Everest), Karakorams (K2), and Hindu Kush, mountains come together. It’s a magical place, and we were literally the only people there.

We then headed back to Serena Gilgit Hotel for breakfast before starting our day to Hunza Valley. The drive was spectacular from start to finish - you will literally feel your jaw dropping as you drive and you almost cannot believe the scenery will possibly get better… and it does.

Chapshoro Point - Along the Karakoram Highway from Gilgit to Hunza Valley one of the most famous foods is chapshoro, a meat filled dough pocket. It’s a great tea snack - and we’d be having a few more of these today.
Total price - 900 PKR ($6.74)

Hunza Valley - We arrived to Hunza Valley and immediately checked in to Hunza Serena Inn, with an almost unbelievable view from our patio.

Baltit Fort - We quickly hiked up to Baltit Fort, a spectacular and iconic fort within Hunza Valley and then walked down for a quick bite to eat.

Hunza Food Pavilion - Just a small little cosy restaurant, yet so inviting and so many good aromas coming out of the kitchen. We ordered chapshoro again, and daodo soup, both of which were amazing.
Total price - 630 PKR ($4.72)

Osho Maraka - Hunza Serena Inn - We then headed back to the hotel where they wanted to prepare a local Hunza Valley food lunch for us. The food was good, a little on the plain side for me, but very fresh and local ingredients.

Eagles Nest - Next we drove up one of the main mountains of Hunza Valley for the view. Although we were late for the sunset, the view was still spectacular.

Traditional Hunza Valley food - In the evening is when the real authentic Hunza Valley food and cultural learning began. We were invited (thanks to the Gilgit Baltistan tourism ministry for setting it up) to a 400 year old home for a time of music and local Hunza Valley food. The old home was beautiful, and they immediately started playing amazing local music. The food was authentic and local - lots of whole grains, walnuts and almonds, and plenty of apricot oil. One of the dishes, a tortilla like bread filled with walnut paste and apricot oil was one of the secret dishes of longevity - so I was told! Whatever the case, the food, people, and experience, was outstanding.

By this time I have to stay I was tired, cold, and ready to go back to the hotel to sleep, but they said, we need to stop at one more place.

It was completely dark, and looked abandoned.

But we stepped inside a home, and there were at least 20 people huddled in the house, waiting for us.

I was blown away and humbled.

They made us tea and a few local pancake like snacks. It was beyond special.

Thank you to everyone involved, and to the families for their amazing hospitality and kindness. Another absolutely incredible day of food and people in Pakistan.

Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan [Amazing Places 4K]

Hunza is a district in the northern part of Gilgit-Baltistan, famous for its extraordinary natural beauty. Hunza was a princely state until 1974. Gilgit-Baltistan is administered by Pakistan and subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947 (Wikipedia).
Hunza Valley is located centrally in Hunza, enclosed by the snowy peaks of the Karakoram mountain. The ancient Altit and Baltit forts in Hunza Valley, nearby Hunza's capital Karimabad (Baltit), have significant Tibetan architectural influence. The highest peak of the Karakoram mountains - Rakaposhi 7,788 m/ 25,551 ft is visible from Hunza Valley, it is notable for rising 5,900 m/ 19,357 ft in only about 11 km/ 7 mi from the Hunza River. The scenic Karakoram Highway is the main road crossing Hunza (continuing into China).

Locations in the video: Attabad Lake (0:32), Husseini Bridge (1:10), Passu( 2:26), Passu Glacier (4:01), Baltit fort (5:06, 12:03), Ganish (6:59), Haldeikish Sacred Rocks of Hunza (7:28), Altit Fort (7:49), Views over Hunza Valley and Karakoram Mountains from Eagle's Nest, above Karimabad (9:32), Rakaposhi peak (12:22).

Hunza VS Skardu | Top Places of Both Valleys | Gilgit Baltistan | Pakistan

Since the travel season has officially begins many tourists are planning to head towards North for their trips to the hill stations. Nowadays one of the most popular and hyped travel destination on social media is Hunza, where as Skardu is also another famous tourist city. But there are some real and true facts about these vacational destinations which mostly people don’t know. In this video i have presented a comparison on both of these travel destinations and gave my opinion on the basis of their accessibility, weather, scenic and natural beauty. 3 Days in HUNZA VALLEY, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan - Paradise on Earth

3 Days in HUNZA VALLEY, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan - Paradise on Earth

Hunza is famous for its beauty, the richness of its cuisine, and its people. Officially, Hunza Nagar, this valley is located in the north of Pakistan, bordering China's Xinjiang province.
Hunza is a must-see for anyone traveling to Pakistan, and I am no different; I honestly fell in love with this place the moment I got to it.

⏩ Getting to Hunza
From Islamabad
There is no airport in Hunza, and the nearest airport is in Gilgit, some 2.5-3 hours away. It is a small airport with flights from Islamabad, but the planes are small due to small runway and flights are subject to weather, they get canceled a lot. From Gilgit, it takes 3 hours to take a local minivan that will bring you to Aliabad. From here you will need to find a way to your own accommodation.

⏩ Where To Stay In Hunza?
I stayed in a beautiful hotel with the best views any hotel has to offer. Hunza Serena Inn was absolutely divine.
It is a small property with beautiful gardens all around, and the best pet is the views of the entire Hunza Valley valley and Baltit fort from the gardens or porticos outside the rooms.

⏩ Food in Hunza
I wonder if you’ve heard of the Hunza diet. The food here is to die for. People in Hunza, on average, have the longest life expectancy in Pakistan, and most of them are fit as a fiddle. The food here is preservative-free, locally sourced, and organic. They also use a lot of apricot oil and local herbs.

⏩ Some local dishes not to miss:
Chap shuro stuffed bread
Chummus apricot drink
Balay soup
Buckwheat pancakes
Savoury Tumuru Tea
Mumtoo dumplings

⏩ Best Time To Visit Hunza Valley
Hunza is beautiful Throughout the year, but it gets freezing here in winter. Spring comes here around March, April time. It is also called the blossom season due to Blossoming off cherry and apricot trees. The entire Valley is covered in blossoms; it is magical. It does get a bit cold here in the evenings, so come prepared for that if you’re coming for blossom season. I visited right at the end of March and got extremely lucky with my beautiful weather.
The peak season is from May to September, when the valley is lush green. It is also the busiest time to visit.

Best Things To Do In Hunza Valley
⏩ Baltit Fort
Entrance – PKR 600 (local) PKR 1200 (foreign)
Baltit Fort is one of the best-placed forts in the entire world. It overlooks the entire Hunza valley. It sits on top of Karimabad, the most touristy village in Hunza under the might Ulter peaks.
The fort is more than 800 years old. It showcases the old culture of The Valley and its Mir’s. Mir is the title of the ruler of Hunza valley, and the current Mir is closely associated with the fort, which was donated by the family as a place for local interest.

⏩ Altit Fort
Entrance – PKR 600 (local) PKR 1200 (foreign)
The second most important place to see in Hunza, this fort is even older than Baltit Fort. To see it in all its glory perched atop a mountain, head to the Sacred rock carvings of Hunza (more about that below).
The fort is located in the village is Altit, and it took us about 20 minutes by car to get there from Karimabad.

⏩ Attabad Lake
This is the latest addition to the beauty of Hunza. Barely 30 minutes away, it is a must-visit even for a few hours. Before 2010, this was a sleepy valley. It had a cute village called Ainabad, which had fields and a few houses. People would pass by without thinking much of the place, but in Jan 2010, a massive landslide caused the water of Hunza River to get stuck, and the water level rose, people evacuated, and this turned into Atabad lake.

⏩ Passu Peaks and Khunjerab Pass
The Passu Cones, Passu Glacier as well as Bhorit Lake, Sost, Hussaini Hanging Bridge, and Khunjerab Pass can all be done in a single day as a day trip. Khunjerab Pass is the highest land border crossing globally, and it also has the highest ATM machine in the world on the Pakistani side. It is a friendly border.

THE REAL HUNZA TOURISTS DON'T SEE! NEVER SEEN VILLAGE LIFE IN PAKISTAN

This is the Hunza you have never seen before- the raw, untouched beauty as Immy and Tani explore it in the -20 degrees winter of north Pakistan! #pakistan #hunza #travelvlog

In this episode we start our day at the famous MarcoPolo Inn hotel in Gulmit. Our stay here was very comfortable and we would like to thank our hosts for making this day possible. We make our first stop to a local families home as they welcome us with some traditional GRALL (authentic Hunza dish). This experience was life changing for us.
We then made our way to a carpet weaving center located in Gulmit to see how Hunza carpets are really made. Traditional weaving in Hunza was historically quite basic — limited to a few village elders making coarse goat and yak hair rugs. The Aga Khan provided support for the Hunza workshops dedicated to the training of young women, under Turkmen master weavers. More than 250 women are now skilled carpet-weavers and earn decent wages.
After an incredible experience with some extremely skilled weavers, we headed to another local home. This one was a little different and we felt it was a more modern version of the first home we visited. The most beautiful thing was the structure of the house. The structure of a traditional Hunza house basically stands on four main wooden pillars plus one to three additional small pillars. These pillars are made of juniper, apricot, walnut or other locally available wood. These pillars are often covered by geometric patterned woodcarvings. The traditional geometric designs on these pillars are inherited over centuries. Because of its unique wooden frame the house is earthquake resistant. If even the walls were peeled outward during an earth quack the frame would remain standing, protecting the main structure.
We finished our local unseen experience with a lovely visit to the Gulmit museum which we would highly recommend on your next visit to Hunza.
