Pacaya volcano in Guatemala is an active volcano. Located only 1 hours drive from the town of Antigua hiking Pacaya volcano makes a great day trip. We hiked up Volcan Pacaya to the top i
of the volcano.
We actually saw lava coming down the steep slopes of the volcano.. To finish the hike and just when you needed a bit of added energy we got to toast / roast marshmallow in the lava. The dried lava bed has openings and it was literally like sticking your hand in an oven.
It was a fabulous trip and one we would recommend that you climb a volcano if you come to Guatemala or are looking for a trip from Antigua. How many people can actually say they roasted marshmallows on an active volcano.

Pacaya Volcano Hike in Guatemala - This is the easy one!
If you are thinking about hiking the Pacaya volcano in Guatemala, make sure you watch this video first. The hike has changed a lot in the past few years. You won't see any lava and cooking pizza or roasting marshmallows over the open vents is kind of a joke nowadays.
Nevertheless, it's still one of the most amazing hikes I've ever done, and the views are stunning! I've hiked all over the world and this is one hike that you don't want to miss. Bring warm layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, hiking shoes, water, and cash for drinks. If you come prepared and take it slow, hikers in reasonable shape should be able to hike it.

Our epic sunrise hike up Pacaya Volcano in Guatemala after the May 2021 eruption. We witnessed HUGE lava flows and even saw Volcán Fuego erupting in the distance next to Volcán Acatenango. We roasted marshmallows over the lava and got so close Paul's shoe melted!

Exploring Pacaya Volcano | Guatemala | LittleMissTravelers
Guatemala, located in Central America, is one of the Beautiful places that most people do not even know. The people are kind, respectful, serviceable and generous. But most of all, this place is very cost-effective. You can bring the whole family and there's something for everyone.
We visited a lot of the amazing the places (check out all our Guatemala Videos), we visited the locals and also got the chance to Visit the Pacaya Volcano. Marvin, our tour guide, was spectacular!!! SHOUT OUT TO MARVIN AND ALL THE BEAUTIFUL HORSES AND THE HORSE OWNERS, THANK YOU. We hope you can watch this someday.
ABOUT : The Pacaya Volcano is one of the 3 active volcanos in Guatemala, which first erupted approximately 23,000 years ago and has erupted 23 times since the Spanish conquest of Guatemala.
Even though it's active, it's with reduced risk. It is one of the easiest to climb, it's advisable to go with a guide, which you can hire at the entrance for about $30.
It's very important to wear comfortable and appropriate shoes.
The climb can be challenging, especially ascending. The workers with the horses are so many, so if the going gets tough, get a beautiful horse to help. This also help create jobs for the Locals. Thanks for watching and commenting.

SLEEPING ON A VOLCANO IN ANTIGUA - Backpacking through Guatemala
After flying from Costa Rica to Guatemala we explored the beautiful colonial city of Antigua and participated in a week of Spanish classes.
We hiked up Pacaya volcano that is still active and roasted some marshmallows. Even more exciting was hiking up Volcano Acatenago which is situated right next to an active volcano that erupts every 20 minutes providing a spectacular show. We spent the night on the volcano before hiking to the summit in the middle of the night in order to watch the sunrise. This was a once in a life time experience!
After returning to Antigua we spent the night in the Earth Lodge which I can highly recommend. Check out their website here:

Hiking Pacaya Volcano in Guatemala - Our Central America Travel
Hiking Pacaya Volcano in Guatemala - This is our another one of our Central America travel journeys. After Costa Rica, Colombia, Belize and Mexico, we created this trip to Guatemala. From Antigua Guatemala was a tour on our list from the moment we arrived in Guatemala.
Pacaya Volcano 2019 is about an hour and a half drive from Antigua Guatemala. Hiking Pacaya volcano was our first tour while in Guatemala. Hiking Pacaya volcano Guatemala should definitely be on your list if you're visiting Antigua or even Guatemala City. Antigua Guatemala was our base camp for this and our other visits while in country. Volcan pacaya, by the way is another name for Pacaya Volcano. If you're looking for things to do in Guatemala, this has to be on your list. Well, let me say, if you're up to it physically, as this was a hard slog if you ask me. Guatemala City also has tours to Pacaya volcano guatemala as well as numerous other starting points. But I can tell you that when the busses and shuttle vans leave Antigua, it's a lot of them.
Lake Atitlan is another good spot to visit and you can also schedule a ride to Pacaya volcano from there as well. We found transportation pretty easy while there. If hiking a volcano is on your list of to-do's, here's your chance. Hiking in Guatemala will definately be a good time to have this experience.
Visiting Guatemala is something you can tell that we recommend visitors to Central America. So, if you're looking for things to do in Guatemala City, things to do in Guatemala or things to do in Antigua Guatemala, put hiking Pacaya Volcano on your list. Guatemala Travel in general is great. It's easy to get around and if you do travel Guatemala, there are plenty of nature experiences to have such as this one. So visit Guatemala,! There's not too many places in Central and/or South America that are this easy to get to. From Houston, just one flight. Antigua tours and tour operators are all over the city. Another choice to climb and even camp if you want, would be to climb Fuego volcano.

Hiking the Active Pacaya Volcano | Don't Sleep On Guatemala
Our time in Guatemala was filled with interacting with kind and generous people. From people giving me a discount on the street for my taco de pollo to our uber drivers and guides offering us food and sweets. Guatemala City, Antigua, and the surrounding areas make up a small portion of what this country has to offer. GO TO GUATEMALA

Hola amigos, welcome again! If you have watched my last video, you know that the trip to Acatenango Volcano was not successful. I was very disappointed after 5 hrs of the hike. But I didn't give up. I went to Pacaya volcano the week after. This trip was short, only took half a day. I picked the afternoon session (2 sessions a day) because I wanted to see the sunset.
The weather was being very nice till we arrived.....rain, wind, slippery muddy road......So I chose to ride a horse. It was a little scary but fine. By going through the foggy forest, I felt like was in a fairytale.
After 1.5 hr, we reached the lava zone. The lava was used to heat up our marshmallow. I was so excited because it was the first time I saw lava. The weather turned out to be nice when we reached the top. The scenery was so beautiful with the sunset.

We Hiked Up a Volcano in Guatamala!
When I booked a last-minute ticket to Guatemala on a whim with less than 24 hours before departing for the airport, I felt a lot of things: anxiety, excitement, guilt...For leaving Josh at home to work while I went galavanting, of course. One thing I didn't feel was underprepared. I've spent years collecting the right gear, clothing, and supplies so that if and when an opportunity like this does arise, I won't be stuck scrambling to 15 different stores trying to find the perfect shirt or snack bars or shoes or packs. But what I didn't know was that I wasn't prepared at all. Not for hiking Acatenango in Guatemala.

The Guatemala Volcano Hike - MUST DO
Hiking Mt. Acatenango is quite possibly one of the wildest hikes in the world!
Climbing Acatenango, camping next to an active volcano. Then to be woken up to an eruption & lava spilling out before making the final summit at 4am.
Words alone cannot do this justice. What an experience.
There are a lot of tour companies operating this hike, after a few days of asking around and research we found the Soy Tours was the cheapest and offered the best overall experience. I would 100% recommend going through them :)
