Flying into Red Sands Ranch? Winter 2020-21 Airstrip Surface Conditions with Multiple Approaches
This is a video shot from under a Cessna T206H showing the general winter surface condition of the Red Sands Ranch Airstrip (1XS4) along with multiple approaches from the North (RWY 17) and South (RWY 35).
500' Runway Extension at Red Sands Ranch airstrip 1XS4
New runway extension nearing completion to bring the total length to 3300' at the 1XS4 airstrip. The main reason for the extension is to bring the high point of the terrain to the halfway point of the strip so that landing in either direction provides an uphill flare and rollout.

Take a morning 'drive' down Red Sands Road in Central Texas from a Zenith 701.
400' Runway Expansion at Devil's Spring Quarry -- Mason County, TX
This backcountry airstrip at an abandoned granite quarry is not on the charts and at 550' with trees at each end hardly qualified as an airstrip. The strip is now extended to around 950' although an extremely challenging approach is required to navigate through trees and a 15 degree offset.
