MORE INFO ABOUT THE VIDEO ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Spain is a complex country! It’s also a pretty easy going one. But there are certain things that you just don’t want to get wrong. And here they are!

11. Don’t go OTT on please and thank you.
In Spanish we just don’t use the words as much. We are more likely to work ‘please’ and ’thank you’ into the tone of how we speak, or by tweaking the words (such as adding “ito” to the end of a word).

10. Don’t put bread on your plate.
In Spain, you always leave your bread beside your plate on the table. It sites beside your cutlery, because it kind of is a piece of cutlery.

9. Don’t eat with your hand under the table.
I grew up with no elbows on the table. But here in Spain we also have the rule that you should have your hands above the table at all times. Because you might have a knife??

8. Don’t offer guests a beer at 5pm
Because we eat lunch and dinner later, beer o’clock is usually about 8pm… not 5pm.

7. Don’t help with the dishes after parties.
It’s just not something that’s done here. At the end of a party or dinner party, you might help tidy up slightly, but you don’t help do the dishes.

6. Don’t be a ‘pesado’ in social situations.
Chill out! Don’t ask people what their job is straight away when you meet them in a social setting and don’t expect people to cut to the chase when telling a story - we take our time here!

5. Don’t misinterpret loud conversations.
When Yoly speaks with her mother on the phone, it can get heated. But they’re not arguing - it’s just that conversations here often sound more intense.

4. Don’t generalise about Spain.
This is a highly regional country. So don’t assume that every region of Spain has the same language, customs or food.

3. Don’t call Catalan a dialect of Spanish.
Catalan is its own language - and don’t get that wrong (especially when speaking to a Catalan)

2. Don’t used ‘usted’ willy nilly.
Here in Spain we’re pretty informal and so don’t use “usted” unless we’re speaking with older people or in very formal situations.

1. Don’t mention the civil war casually.
The Spanish civil war and the dictatorship is a really complex topic, and still an open wound in Spain. So wait until you know someone pretty well before diving into the topic.

WHO ARE WE? ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). Things Okay in Japan but Illegal Around the World

Use my code PAOLO15 at to get $15 off your first Bokksu Japanese snack box!

Shocking Laws okay in Japan, but illegal around the world. So I’ve made videos before on things you can’t do in Japan because of laws or unknown laws that could get you arrested, but in this video I wanted to switch things up a little and share with you some things that are legal in Japan but may be illegal in other parts of the world. Many think that Japan is a very strict country, but when you hear some of these Japanese laws you may be scratching your head. And to be clear from the start, I don’t recommend doing any of these things. I’m not providing legal advice and this is for entertainment only.

DEMO CLASS: TEACHING ENGLISH TO GRADE 1 IN WUHAN CHINA

In this video, I taught Grade 1 an English vocabulary lesson. This video was filmed in 2019 when I lived and worked in Wuhan, China as an ESL teacher. Below I have included a sample lesson plan to give you even more ideas on how to teach an ESL lesson plan. Please bear in mind that this was an afternoon class and the kids were really excited and intrigued but the camera.

Lesson plan Grade 1

Teaching Target:
• To create immersive, interactive and engaging lessons for each unit of the teaching materiel provided (textbook)
• There will be 20 lessons in total- 6 units, 3 lessons per unit with 2 revisions lessons
• The student must be able to memorize, understand, recite and apply new vocabulary in and out of the classroom

Teaching points:
• Use PPT, Videos, music and flashcards to create new lessons
Difficulty- Lesson may not be engaging enough depending on class abilities
• Solution- ensure a surplus of teaching content and activities so that if the class is too easy or the activities don’t work out as planned there is another activity to move on to
Difficulty- misbehavior, restlessness, and lack of focus
• Solution- ensure lessons are engaging by including a diverse array of activities to keep the kids interested e.g. games, song, and dance, competitions and rewards

Teaching preparation material:
• PPT, videos, songs, dance, textbook, blackboard, puppets, toys (e.g. tennis ball), flashcards, word cards, competitions, stickers, prizes, role play, arts and crafts, audio, realia
Overview of the lesson plan
Warm-up/Review- Each lesson begins with a fun warm-up to review material previously learned and motivates the student to use English during the class. Systemic review and repetition are important to the retention of the new language.
Introduction- New language items are introduced using either PPT/flashcards/ realia/audio. This focus is for the kids to hear a new language
Lesson core- Children practice a new language by rote repetition and using diverse activities. This can include games, singing, dancing, drawing, acting, etc…
Wrap-up- Ending the class in an enjoyable way is also important for the retention of materials learned an instilling a love of English.

Grade 1 Lesson plan
Unit 1-Toys- Lesson 1
Teaching target
• Students must be able to point to and name: doll, ball, plane, etc.
• Students must be able to understand and demonstrate, can, sure, sorry
• Students must be able to understand and recite the sentences, “this is my…”, “can I play…”
Materials
• Flashcards, PPT, book, soft toys, ball, video, songs, dance, TPR, chalkboard, competition, realia (e.g. chair, desk, book, ruler)
Warm-up/Review
• Intro song- “good morning song” with TPR actions
• Create tally for competition between teams- split the class into 4 teams
Introduce new vocabulary
• Introduce new vocab on PPT, tell the children what they will be learning about e.g. “today we will learn about items in the classroom”
• Have students repeat the new words, use TPR to ensure full understanding
• Use realia as a visual aid to ensure full understanding (e.g. ball, plane, bear, car)
Activity
• Once students are familiar with the new words, commence memory game 1 and; they will then commence “pass the ball activity” where 6 students will go to the front of the class and form a line; the first student will repeat each word and pass the ball along the line (additional activity)
Singing and chanting to the song on video
• Have students stand up in order to learn the new song with an aim to reinforce the new vocabulary, repetition, and TPR is key to memorizing the new vocabulary
Listen and repeat
• The main scene of the video is played: children watch the video and repeat the new sentences created from the previous vocabulary
Reading/activity
• After viewing the video students must them read the new sentences learned
• Students can be chosen at random to read these sentences, students can win points if they recite the correct words and sentences
• Students will then work in pairs to act out the sentences as if having a dialogue using TPR actions e.g. student 1 says “this is my doll?” student 2 says “this is my car” – some students will be called to the front of the class
• If students do well, they will be rewarded with stickers, which they will eventually win prizes with
• Other activity including acting with puppets to reinforce learned words and sentences
Wrap-up
• Vocab/sentences learned are reinforce via wrap up song or game

English Class 1 : Starbucks Please!

Welcome to Allan's English Class.

This is our way of learning and applying English in the real world.

LE listening A1 The first English class

A Logical Lesson: The Order of Adjectives in English

In which order should adjectives in a series go? This video attempts to provide insight into not only what the order is, but why there is an order at all. It also denounces ablaut reduplication as a mechanism for altering the supposed order, mostly because the only example given on most pop-news sites was 'Big Bad Wolf'.
