MARRAKECH, MOROCCO (2023) | 10 BEST Things To Do In & Around Marrakech

Marrakech is located in the center of Morocco. With its vibrant colors, buzzing atmosphere, mix of tradition and modernity, and aromatic smells, it’s a city like no other: Marrakech truly stimulates all your senses at once.

10. Explore the Marrakech medina (free walking tour)
The medina is the heart of the Marrakech, packed with shops, traditional houses called “riads”, restaurants, and many of the historic sites.

☑️ Free walking tour:

???? WHERE TO STAY IN THE MEDINA:
- Riad Basma (where we stayed - budget option):
- Palais Dar Donab (more luxurious):

9. Try the traditional local food
Some staples you have to try include couscous, meat brochettes, and the most iconic dish of all: tagine.

8. Visit the Saadian Tombs
The Saadian Tombs are a 16th century burial ground of the Saadian dynasty, which ruled over Marrakech between 1524 and 1668.

7. Find peace at the Majorelle Gardens
Located in Marrakech’s new town, these lush botanical gardens are filled with cacti, palms, and other colorful trees.

6. Stroll around Mellah Jewish Quarter
There are still a number of Jewish places here, including the Lazama Synagogue, the Miara Jewish Cemetery, and the Spice Market.

5. Get lost in the souks
What makes the souks in Marrakech remarkable is the wide variety of exotic items you can buy, such as babouches, lanterns, ceramics, carpets, and leather goods.

☑️ Different souks in Marrakech:

4. Check the ruins of El Badi Palace
The Saadian Ruler Al-Mansour who was buried in the Saadian Tombs built this grand palace in the 16th century.

3. See the beautiful Bahia Palace
After El Badi Palace, it might be interesting to see the contrast with the beautiful Bahia Palace, which was built in the late 19th century.

2. Go on a day tour to the Ouzoud Waterfalls
With a height of 110 meters or 360 feet, these are the tallest waterfalls in the country. A day tour from Marrakech includes a hike down to the river, do a short boat ride to get closer to the falls, and hike up again.

☑️ Ouzoud Waterfalls day tour:

1. Experience the Jemaa el-fna square + Koutoubia
the Jemaa-el-Fna square is the hub of entertainment, with a variety of food and juice stalls, musicians, fortune-tellers, henna tattoo artists, and snake charmers.

$1.49 Morocco Fast Food - SANDWICH KING!! ???? Marrakesh Street Food Tour!

???????? Morocco Street Food in Casablanca:
???? T-shirts:

MARRAKESH, MOROCCO - Welcome to the thrilling city of Marrakesh, Morocco - and a Moroccan street food paradise. Today we’re eating our way through the old town - we’ll taste some of the most famous street foods and some things we find along the way. It’s going to be an exciting day of Moroccan street food in Marrakesh!

A huge thank you to Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging my trip to Morocco!

Breakfast - We started with breakfast donuts - known as sfenj - the dough is made into a ring by hand and deep fried. I especially loved the ones that are flattened and then filled with an egg on the inside. Next we had bisarra - Moroccan fava bean soup, which was delicious.

Zaazaa - Next up we stopped in a fruit shop and had a deluxe avocado milkshake with all sorts of toppings.

Chez Omar Sandwich Mixte - One of the highlights was Chez Omar Sandwich Mixte who makes classic Moroccan fast food sandwiches made with a mix of meats and onions and coriander all sizzled in oil on a hot plate. It’s a Moroccan street food you have to eat when you’re in Marrakesh. And it costs just 15 MAD ($1.49 USD)!

Continuing with this street food tour, we had some refreshing pomegranate juice, Loubia - Moroccan stewed white beans, and did some olives tasting.

Chez Lamine - Nothing is more famous in Marrakesh than Chez Lamine for their Mechoui - Moroccan pit roasted lamb. It’s quite a scene with all the lambs roasting in an underground oven.

Restaurant Tiznit - Full of lamb we headed to the next restaurant to try a Rabbit Tagine - Rabbit and raisins slow cooked in a clay pan, and another must eat dish in Marrakesh; Beef Tangia - Beef and spices slow cooked in clay vase.

Finally we finished this Moroccan food tour with a bowl of special local yoghurt.

Thank you again to all my friends from Moroccan Food Tour ( who made this day possible.

Morocco Street Food!! ???????? Unforgettable Food Tour in Rabat, Morocco!

???????? Moroccan Street Food in Casablanca:
???? Ghost Chili:
???? T-shirts:

RABAT, MOROCCO - Today we’re in the capital city of Morocco - Rabat and we’ll be going on a Moroccan street food tour to eat our way through the old town and finish with a huge and impressive home-cooked meal. Rabat is not only the political capital of Morocco, but it’s also a food capital of Morocco!

A huge thank you to Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging my trip to Morocco!

We started off this tour today with some street food snacks around Old Rabat. We had Rziza - Moroccan string bread, Chebakia - sweet honey pastry, sandwiches with a mix of meat and sausage all sauteed down with onions and cilantro and spices on a hot griddle, fried sardines with fried potato cutlets, and one of the tastiest Moroccan street foods - steamed cows head!

Dar El Medina - For lunch Mohammed took us to a restaurant without Old Rabat that specializes and preserves traditional Moroccan food. We had some of the real classics of Moroccan cuisine like Kefta Mkawra - Meatballs in tomato sauce, Beef Tagine - Beef with prunes, Chicken Tagine - Chicken, olives, and preserved lemon, and not forgetting couscous with beef, chickpeas, and raisin onions. Many dishes were cooked in a tagine, a traditional Moroccan and North African earthenware pan.

Dinner at Mohamed’s Home - Tonight it was an honor to have dinner at Mohamed’s home, where his Mom and family cooked for us one of the most memorable meals of our entire trip to Morocco. We started with a giant salad, followed by a platter of chicken, and a literal surfboard sized platter of fish. It was outstanding, and made me realize that some of the best Moroccan food is at local homes.

Again, a huge thank you to all my friends from Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging this amazing trip to Morocco.

Much more Moroccan food coming!

Double Trouble with the POLICE! Marrakech & Essaouira

This week we park up the van in the Moroccan city centre of Marrakech to experience the hustle & bustle of the Souks before heading back to the coast to discover that Essaouira doesn't like camper vans or motor homes as much as the rest of Morocco.

We also have two encounters with the police with surprising results!

3 Days in MARRAKECH, MOROCCO ???????? (w/ prices!) | an early birthday trip for someone special

I surprised (kind of) my boyfriend Andrew with a trip to Marrakech to celebrate his 30th birthday this year! This was both our first times stepping foot on the diverse continent of Africa. With this being a birthday getaway, we didn't want to pack our itinerary too much and just wanted to focus on spending time in the city at a leisurely pace. In this vlog, we drank SO MUCH mint tea, got pampered at a hammam, rode camels in the desert, and haggled away at all the tempting souks (markets). I also included prices in this vlog so you can get an idea of how much things cost. Enjoy!

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

MOROCCO TRAVEL DOCUMENTARY | The Grand Moroccan Roadtrip

► ITINERARY + GPS TRACKS -
► SUPPORT - 'Buy us a refill of diesel' -

Follow us on our Grand Moroccan Roadtrip!
From sweeping sand dunes to desolate highways of emptiness, bustling cities, and snow-covered peaks, we explored Morocco from north to south and east to west. Driving more than 10,000 km in eight weeks, our roadtrip included many unforgettable adventures. Watch as we explore remote landscapes, climb high peaks, battle breath-taking dust-topias (double pun, yeah!), and navigate the hectic bustle of Morocco’s major cities.

Thank you:
A big THANK YOU goes to Saloua Dabhi who helped tremendously with pronouncing Moroccan names. Additionally, we’d like to thank Christina Neumann ( for her insights into correctly identifying many bird species. And, of course, a big thank you to La Sultana ( for welcoming us to both of their wonderful properties.

Key Stats:
Duration of trip: 53 days
Distance driven: 10,431 km
Litres of Diesel: ca. 1453,16 l

Real Talk:
Despite our attempt at keeping our Morocco Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting videos. What you don’t see are the hours spent driving through less spectacular landscapes or some of the unpleasant challenges we faced.

Did we like everything about Morocco?
Far from it. As mentioned in the video, the huge amount of trash definitely dampened our experience. Additionally, we were surprised by the sheer number of begging children. During our trip, we counted a minimum of 500 children asking us for money or sweets. While Morocco undoubtedly has to combat poverty, this behavior often seemed less dictated by need and more by opportunity. Stopping and giving is an individual choice, of course, but when we didn’t we were regularly flipped off, kicked after, or hurled insults at.
In general, though, we perceived most Moroccans as extremely friendly and helpful. The best example is the three local men who selflessly helped us to change our ruptured tire. We cannot thank them enough.

Full Disclosure:
This trip was entirely self-funded. However, we did enjoy a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Oualidia and a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Marrakech.

What is it like Driving In Morocco as a Tourist 2023

Here's our experiencing driving on the streets in Morocco, specifically around Fes, Chefchaouen, Ifrane and surrounds. In short.. watch out for lots of police traps!

Morocco Travel Guide: Marrakech, Atlas Mountains and Essaouira

On this trip you’ll be heading to Marrakech, the heart of Morocco, where spices linger in the market air, the sun sets on street performers, and the senses are treated to a whirlwind of sights and sounds. Discover life in the sprawling medina or get lost in the alleyways towards the souqs. Marvel at the tilework found in the royal Bahia Palace and Dar Si Said or learn how ancient traditions are woven into the fabric of Marrakech; there’s more than one way to fall in love with this cosmopolitan city.

Morocco is a North African country renowned for diversity, and this is one of the things that make it such a fascinating destination to visit. It’s a place where one will find many cultural influences, and the landscape offers visitors a chance to experience the ocean, Atlas Mountain peaks and the Sahara Desert all in one go. You might be travelling to one country, but in Morocco, there is a whole world to explore.

In Essaouira discover how coastal winds and different tribes can shape a port city. It’s a melting pot with Arab, Berber and European influences. While the sea attracts windsurfers, culture vultures flock to the medina’s alleyways for galleries and a spot of people watching. The vibrancy found in the country’s cities is matched by life in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where visitors can swap people watching and fortified walls for hiking, folk music and stargazing.

Observe nomadic shepherds, hike through limestone river canyons, enjoy impressive views and Berber hospitality and warmth as you make Midelt your basecamp for the Middle Atlas Mountains. As the sun goes down on the soaring peaks, the stars will light up the skies.

The first stop on our street food tour in Essaouira, Morocco, was to try a calamari tagine. Cooked in the traditional Moroccan way at a local shop inside the old city walls, we were warmly welcomed to cook and prepare the calamari tajine with the chef herself. We love calamari!

With such an abundance of seafood to try, we continued our Moroccan food tour to a local shop with a friendly owner who makes fried octopus. The tentacles on these were insane, so big they were the main course themselves. Essaouira has some of the best street food in Morocco, the city is a Moroccan seafood heaven and we couldn’t get enough.

No seafood street food tour is complete without lobster. We tasted the freshest lobster at Chez Zak, caught that morning, cooked over charcoal and served right on the street... we were in heaven! It doesn’t get much more street food than that! To finish off this street food tour in Essaouira, we tried the unique and flavourful sardine tajine. Sardines are a very popular Moroccan street food, especially along the coast. This special local dish is a popular food in Essaouira, and we had been waiting to try it. We were extra lucky to head down to the docks to choose the fish with the owners for the tagine, what a day!

We hope you enjoy the seafood heaven that is Essaouira, Morocco. We had such a great day trying some unique local flavours like calamari and sardine tagine. Stay tuned next week for more street food adventures in Morocco!
