24 HOURS IN SALZBURG AUSTRIA (SALZBURG TRAVEL GUIDE)

24 hours in Salzburg Austria is plenty of time to see most of the main attractions. In this vlog, we take you on a Salzburg walking tour. Salzburg is known for Mozart, Red Bull, and salt mining. Here are the things we did while spending one day in Salzburg.

Our first stop was at Kapuzinerberg. This is a hill on the eastern side of Salzburg's Salzach River. From the top of the hill, we got great views of Salzburg. Next we made our way to Salzburg's Old Town.

In the Old Town of Salzburg (Altstadt), we walked down the famous shopping street Getreidegasse. This street has decorative signs above the storefronts. It's also the birthplace of Mozart. Mozart was born on Getreidegasse in 1756. At the end of the street, we tried the world famous Salzburger Mozartkugel (Mozart Balls). These famous chocolate balls can be sampled at Cafe Konditorei Fürst.

Next, we made our way to University Square to try a pretzel from Salzburger Brezen. These pretzels were the size of my head! After leaving University Square, we made our way to Residenzplatz. From here, we could see the Salzburg Cathedral and a giant fountain. Then we visited Mozartplatz to see a statue of the famous composer. Right around the corner from Mozartplatz is Kapitelplatz. This square features a giant chess board. From here we could also see Fortress Hohensalzburg (Salzburg's Castle). After all of our walking, it was time for lunch.

For lunch we went to Bärenwirt. It's been in business since 1663 and is popular for its fried chicken. The chicken was great, but we loved the potato salad at Bärenwirt. We highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

After lunch, our last stop of our Salzburg walking tour was at Mirabell Palace. The Mirabell Gardens are spectacular! We also visited the Marble Hall which is said to be one of the most beautiful wedding halls in the world. The palace also has the Pegasus Fountain, which was a filming location for the Sound of Music, and the Dwarf Garden.

We had a wonderful day exploring Salzburg, Austria!

One Day in One Minute: Salzburg

Welcome to Salzburg, the capital city of the state of Salzburg, and one of the largest cities in Austria.

To tour Salzburg is to walk through a place steeped in history. Once a Roman town, Salzburg became prominent in the Middle Ages, when Archbishop Gebhard established his fortress, Hohensalzburg Castle, atop a hill in the city. The castle, one of the largest in Europe, is still intact, and open for tours. The castle is located inside Old Town, and no Salzburg sightseeing is complete without additional visits to the many ancient buildings throughout the area. Take in the stunning examples of medieval and later baroque architecture, or pay a visit to the many churches that have sprung up over the centuries.

While you’re in Salzburg, get to know the story behind one of its most prominent residents: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A reproduction of the famous musician’s home is located in the city, and includes a museum dedicated to the Mozart family, as well as a number of instruments.

Round out a day with a relaxing stroll along the Salzach River, which runs through the city. Many restaurants and wine bars are located along the river as well, providing a number of places to eat, drink, and dance the night away.

WHAT TO SEE IN SALZBURG AUSTRIA IN ONE DAY ⏳????????

Salzburg is located in central Austria at the northern edge of the alps, with a population on 150,000 people. It is the fourth largest city in Austria and a popular destination for 4 reasons: it's famous baroque architecture deemed the old town a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's the birthplace of Mozart, the Salzburg music festival, and it is famous for being the filming location of the The Sound of Music. The city is divided by the Salzach river, with the new part of town on one side and the old part on the other.

1. Hohensalzburg - translates to high Salzburg fortress perched high above the baroque towers of the city. It is the city's famous landmark and one of the largest, fully preserved medieval castles in Europe. Construction began in 1077, built under the archbishop Gebhard during the time when Salzburg was a city in the Holy Roman Empire. Even though you see many cannons, it was never actually used in battle. It was so foreboding that nobody every attacked Salzburg for 1000 years!

The fortress is accessible by cable car, making it one of the major tourist attractions. It is also my favorite spot for panoramic views of the city. Make sure to grab a bite at one of the cafes at the top of the castle and appreciate the views of the alps.

2. Mozart's Birthplace - This is Mozart's childhood home. He lived on the third floor for 26 years and is now a museum. Mozart is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the classical period and recognized as a prodigy and one of the most prolific artists. By age 6 he was writing his own compositions. The music plays almost everywhere in this city, and many shops and tourist attractions are dedicated to him.

3. DomQuartier - If you like Baroque architecture, you will love photographing the grandiosity of the DomQuartier. The DomQuartier is the cultural highlight in the heart of the city. The archbishop was key in building this opulent city - he strived to make Salzburg the Rome of the north. The city's planning and architecture is such a masterpiece that it is protected by UNESCO. It includes the Salzburg Cathedral constructed in the early 16oos. The historic old town survived the ravages of the war, and is hence where most of the tourist attractions are located.

4. Residenzplatz - Residence Square - Is part of the old town and one of the most impressive attractions in Salzburg.

5. The Sound of Music was filmed in 1965, and tours of the filming locations make Salzburg a popular destination.

If you are in central Europe, be sure to visit Salzburg.
