Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

I love to travel by train! But how is the NIGHT TRAIN IN NORWAY!?? In this video I went from Oslo to Stavanger in a private cabin inside a Norwegian sleeper train. It was a good experience. In this vlog I am showing you everything you need to know about travelling by train in my country.

The Famous Bergensbanen: Norway's Best Rail Journey? 7hrs From Bergen to Oslo.

Even on a damp Tuesday afternoon, this train journey was something I was looking forward to. Was I right to have such high expectations? Well, things didn't start well with me on the wrong side of the train, so in order to bring you the best views, sacrifices had to be made :) Join me on the world famous Bergensbanen. Will this be worth seven hours of discomfort!? Join me and we'll find out together...

I travelled from Bergen to Oslo, Norway on Tuesday 11th July 2023.

This video is not sponsored and all opinions are my own.

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You might not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation.

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for YouTube Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

First Class Overnight Train in Finland: Private Room with Shower! ????????

To get from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, we took Finland’s overnight train and booked ourselves a “first class” sleeper car with its own private bathroom. Overnight trains are one of our most favorite ways to see a country, and we were able to get fantastic rest, while watching the snowy landscape of Finland fly by from our window. What was supposed to be a 12-hour journey to Rovaniemi, Finland, turned into a 16-hour journey, when we got locked on the overnight train at our stop. ????????

Travelling 6,000km by train

Travelling across Europe without flying! Watch the companion video about electric cars on Nebula:
(link updated March 2023)

I was given the opportunity to speak at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, and due to my pledge to not fly unless absolutely necessary, I took the train! That meant an epic 6000km journey across Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Then on the way back I stopped over in Stockholm to meet up with some new affiliates of the Wikicast empire...

The Wikicast on Apple Podcasts:
The Wikicast on Spotify:

Travelling by train is more expensive and it takes longer, but is a totally different experience to flying. I felt connected to the journey in a more meaningful way, and actually enjoyed the experience. I had leg room! I had nice food! If you've never taken a medium-long distance trip like this by train before, honestly give it a go. It's better for the climate, and it's better for you.

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we rean out of money and went home to normal life. We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

Japan's Overnight Sleeper Train ???? FIRST CLASS Seat ???? Sunrise Express 寝台特急 サンライズ出雲 瀬戸 シングルデラックス DX

Sunrise Express (寝台特急サンライズ出雲 サンライズ瀬戸), a Japanese overnight train (夜行列車), is the only sleeper train that operates everyday in Japan :) Today I tried the most expensive First Class seat called “Single Deluxe (A寝台個室 シングルデラックス シングルDX)” and traveled from Tokyo Station to Takamatsu Station (東京→高松). It’s a luxurious unique and clean reserved seat that has its own washbasin and desk.
Even if you have a JR pass (All-you-can-ride ticket only for foreign travelers), you will have to pay extra for a private sleeping room. But if you take the Nobi Nobi seat (ノビノビ座席), the cheapest seat instead, you don't have to pay any additional charge. But in any case, you need to go to the ticket office and reserve a seat beforehand.

☆★☆This is what it was actually like!☆★☆
---Single Deluxe, Sunrise Express---
* So many amenities.
* A man was waiting for the train next to me. And the ring tone from his wife was Darth Vader's Theme.
* The Single Deluxe room was much larger and cleaner than I had expected.
* Some people looked into my window from outside the train while stopped at the station.
* The train conductor is kind and professional
* It's nice to have hot water from the wash basin provided in my room.

Norway First Impressions // Oslo Afternoon & Overnight Train

Back around black Friday I found a cheap direct flight to Oslo, Norway and I couldn't pass up the chance to take even a short trip to discover Norway. Join me on this three part adventure where I see as much of Norway as I can in one long weekend. In this week's video, I share my first impressions of Norway after I land in the capital of Oslo before I take an overnight train to Bergen.
