OVERLAND prep for Mozambique - JABARI gets upgraded - Lost in Moz Episode 1

Our preparations are under way for Lost in Mozambique! A lot of people have asked how we prepare for a big trip, so we take you behind the scenes in this episode!

Expect a whole lot of overlanding upgrades for Jabari, both sponsored and DIY, packing, planning and a little farewell party of course!

I hope you all enjoy the episode, well except Front Runner which will probably complain, but they should wait for the main episode before really getting upset! haha

Solo OVERLANDING in Mozambique - Vilanculos to Gorongosa

In this weeks episode of Lost in Mozambique, join me as I embarks on an adventure to explore more of this beautiful country, but this time way off the conventional tourist tract, and on my own. Solo OVERLANDING at it's best.

The journey begins with a scuba diving expedition in the crystal clear waters of Bazaruto, where I encounters an array of colorful marine life. After the dive, I set off on an overlanding road trip to reach the renowned Gorongosa National Park. The road is full of challenges, including potholes, rough terrain, and corrupt police officers. But, I was determined to reach this bucket-list location that I have been dreaming of my whole life.

Traveling solo in Africa can be an exhilarating experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. The road north is terribly maintained, full of potholes and corrupt officials. One of the other challenges is the language barrier. As you head further into rural Mozambique, there is very little english spoken.

Don't miss out on this incredible adventure, and join me on a journey of a lifetime.

OVERLANDING into the MSR (Maputo Special Reserve) - Lost in Mozambique Episode 4

In this episode we head North into the relatively isolated Maputo Special Reserve to look for rogue elephants, and do some serious sand four wheel driving, after quickly stocking up on fresh food, fuel and water in Ponta do Ouro.

The drive into the reserve is actually remarkable simple, although low range four wheel drive, and deflated tyres really are needed, it's only made tricky by some wayward GPS directions, that we luckily ignored.

The reserve is an incredible vast wilderness, with massive lakes, beautiful savannahs, and dunes covered in thick vegetation! The game densities are relatively low, but we still saw a lot, and some unusual animals as well! We really want to find the infamous Mozambican elephants, the older ones are survivors of the war years, and have not got the fondest memories of humans.

The rehabilitation of this park, and a few others like it by Peace Parks and other organisations, is hopefully going to be one of the big focuses of our time in Mozambique!

We eventially make our way through to Ponta Membene the site of the brand new camp that has been built. It is incredibly isolated and wild, but with some creature comforts like private ablutions, and a trickle of power in the evenings to charge your cellphones, so for us it ticks a lot of the boxes for the perfect camp site!

I caught covid this week back in Johannesburg unfortunately, so the video is a little late, and my VO might not be perfect, so apologies for that! It also means we are stuck in JHB at the moment, but don't worry there are at least 3 more Lost in Mozambique episodes before we run out of that content, and by then we are really hoping to be back in Moz making our way up to Gorongosa!

As always, we love to hear your thoughts and feedback? We're effectively a 2 person team, trying to plan, write, present, shoot, direct, record sound, and edit it all together every week. So we know we make mistakes, and there are compromises that have to be made, but we are always looking to improve and learn, and truly truly truly value feedback!

Thank you all for the continued support. And as always, it wouldn't be possible without our product sponsors! (the entire project, and everything else required to put the channel together is self financed)

REDISCOVERING why we overland - Lost in Mozambique Episode 6

We'd been having a pretty rough time with some serious car problems, check out the previous video about Front Runner if you haven't already. So I managed to get Jabari fixed to the point that she was safe and then took an aimless drive north to try clear our heads. The northern section of the Machangulo Peninsular is so wild and isolated, it's just incredible! Hours from civilization, and cut off from the trickle of traffic it used to get. It redefined what we are doing, and why we are doing it!

I really hope you enjoy this episode after the downer last week. Sorry it is a little late, we are back in Mozambique and the upload ran to a record 14 hours! But hopefully worth the wait!

Thanks as always for the support from all of you, and a shout out to Peace Parks and ANAC for giving us access to this incredible reserve and letting us tell these stories there!

Lots of love from beautiful Mozambique,

Tim Hulme

WILD CAMPING in the Maputo Special Reserve - Lost in Moz Episode 5

Hey everyone!

In this episode we continue to explore the Maputo Special Reserve with the Boon family, get lost exploring the park, almost run into some ellies on foot, and head to an incredible wild camping spot in the middle of the park!

Sorry for being so quiet, we both had COVID and were locked down in Johannesburg, South Africa was also going through a seriously rough time, but we're back on the road and back editing content! We've got a couple more episodes from the first leg in Mozambique, and by then we should be back in Mozambique filming for the next leg!

As always, please let us know what you think?

Tim

Exploring the underwater world of Mozambique in Morrungulo - Lost in Mozam 2 Ep 2 (4K)

We’re back, and it’s time to explore a bit more of mozambique!

After a incredible first week of uncovering and exploring the magnificent southern region of Mozambique with Bianca, we moved slightly up north to experience more of this tropical paradise.

We journeyed up into Morrungulo, kindly invited by Marine Mega Fauna, hosted by the one and only Peri Peri divers to experience this pristine untouched wonderland located slightly north of Inhambane where we last left off.

Despite being a tad unlucky with visibility during our trip, the thriving marine life more than made up for it, making every dive worth the adventure. We are immensely grateful to Marine Mega Fauna for extending their invitation to us and to the Peri Peri divers who hosted and gave us the opportunity to uncover this pristine slice of the Mozambican underwater world.

Have you ever explored this area of Mozambique ? Let me know below in the comments, or give me a few location recommendations we may have missed out on! Remember, don’t pack your bags just yet - were just getting started and have more to uncover throughout this epic adventure through tropical Africa.

I spent US$ 13 000 at FRONT RUNNER and WON'T go back!

Hey guys,

This is a tough video for me to make. Front Runner is a South African success story, and I had some sort of misplaced loyalty to them because of that. That's why I left this unsaid for so long. But after the latest round of issues we have had due to their poor workmanship, I couldn't keep quiet any longer.

We want to become trusted advisors in the overlanding space, and so we couldn't continue to implicitly endorse Front Runner (their Kyalami workshop in particular) after featuring them in previous videos.

There's a bumper vlog episode coming up next, so I genuinely am sorry about having to post this, but it wouldn't sit right with me not to.

I hope you are all well,

Tim

Mozambique Ep7 Ponta Membene - Ironvan Adventures with Wild Wonderful World

The team head out to Ponta Membene, in the Maputo Special Reserve and on the shore of the Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve, which features a great beach, very isolated and different from the more famous Ponta do Ouro beach. With camping as the only option, great ablutions, the Team from Ironman 4x4 and Michelle from Wild Wonderful World relax before they head off to explore Rustic campsite number 4 which is south of the main track, overlooking Lagos Ne’a, not far from Lahore Xinguti.

Grant & Michelle everything they do aims to inspire a love for Africa and wildlife, educate people on conservation and do their part to empower key projects with the funding and resources they need to keep our wild spaces thriving.

At Ironman 4x4, we are very passionate about 4 wheel driving. We love Overlanding and being out in Nature. As a responsible 4 wheel drive company, we are very aware of the challenges that Mother Nature faces with the relentless onslaught caused by our human activities. Now, more than ever, Ironman 4x4 has embraced a philosophy of Conservation Awareness in all of our activities as a company and as a team of Nature Lovers.

We are at the forefront of an industry that relies on our clients getting out there and enjoying everything that nature has to offer. We feel a tremendous responsibility to bring as much Conservation Focus as possible to our customers and our audience through our Social Media platforms as well as our day to day activities. To this end, we have elected to produce content that is Conservation focussed alongside our Overlanding and Technical 4wd content.

There are so many Organisations, Groups and Individuals involved in Conservation and we take great pleasure in bringing their stories, their struggles and their plight to the greater Ironman 4x4 following. It is our sincere intention and hopes that we can bring together some of these like-minded people with the aim to build on Conservation efforts for the benefit of, not only our current generation but also generations to come.

4 in a 4x4 Episode 18- Road to Santa Maria

#santamaria #overlanding #maputospecialreserve

One of our favorite places on the planet so far, Santa Maria in Southern Mozambique is the first stop of our year long East Africa Safari. One of the things that make SM so special is the drive through the Maputo Special Reserve (formerly the Maputo Elephant Reserve). With endless vistas, wildlife, and a bit of thick sand thrown in the mix for some great 4x4 driving, it's a great adventure destination in itself. Add to this the stunning coastline protected by the inaccessibility and you have a rare spot on the map that is truly special.

LETABA incredible sightings - Lost in Kruger Episode 4

We have a bumper episode for you today, probably my favourite so far! We spend a few nights in Letaba right in the middle of Kruger National Park, spending a load of time in the car, and covering the whole area South to Satara, and West to the edge of the park.

This is the final episode of the first leg of the trip, so we will be taking a short break from Kruger, but we didn't stop traveling, we just headed down to Sodwana, Hluhluwe and Manyoni. So a little change of pace next week, before we head back to Kruger for 5 more incredible weeks!

Please let us know what you think?

Tim and B

P.S. Have you seen the KrugerExplorer App? It's a superb encyclopedia and field guide to Kruger National Park that includes over 700 detailed species profiles, 70 guided routes through the park, thousands of stunning photos and the most up-to-date maps of the park currently available, and is a great resource for Kruger regulars, first time visitors or anyone who is interested in Africa's spectacular wildlife. INFAMOUS ELEPHANTS of the Maputo Special Reserve - Lost in Mozambique Episode 7

Our time in Maputo Special Reserve is almost done, and we still have not found the infamous Elephants, so we had to double our efforts to find them! They're got such a sad and interesting history, so I really wanted to see them, but hopefully not too close!

Mixed with the usual overlanding, adventure, sand driving, and camping, we have a great last few days in the park before heading further north for a complete change of pace at the luxury Loggerhead Bay lodge!

Huge thanks to Peace Parks Foundation and ANAC for the work they are doing in this part of the world, and for hosting us!

And as always, thanks to all of you for watching! If you enjoy what you watch, please like, subscribe, and turn on notifications! It's the easiest way to support us, and hopefully keep us going to these incredible wild places!

Africa Travels Episode 5 Bilene Mozambique 2023

Onward to BELINE on the coast of Mozambique and a stay in Paradise

DIY Hamer King Series Bumper Installation on Jabari (my Toyota Fortuner)

Edward Bath (a really interesting overlander you should be following) posted on instagram saying that Hamer SA were going to start bringing in the new front bumper they offer for the Toyota Fortuner, and it looked so good that I ordered the first one in the country!

I normally wouldn't take on something like this myself, and rather let the experts do the installation, but I am an impatient person, and couldn't wait till the end of lockdown!

It actually worked out very well, but I won't be adding mechanic to my CV any time soon!

Let me know what you think? Oh and should I give away the shower awning?

Please subscribe if you are enjoying the content!
