3 Months of Van Life in New Zealand - Episode 1
We have arrived in New Zealand, the first stop on our travel year! We’re here for the next 3 months and will be traveling to the North and South Islands in a camper van. This video documents our first 2 weeks in the North Island.
After picking up our van, we visit Rangitoto island to climb Auckland’s largest volcano, explore Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach in the Coromandel Peninsula, and visit two geothermal parks in Rotorua, before heading to Taupo to see New Zealand’s most popular natural attraction, Huka Falls.

Today we're in Nelson to collect our campervan hire from Motorhome Republic. It's a 2018, 4-6 berth Fiat Ducato Imala and will be our home, car, kitchen and toilet for a lot of our road trip over the remaining episodes of Season 2 Reveal NZ.
When it came campervan hire in NZ we had a bit of a plan already — on our last road trip we spotted these premium looking motorhomes around the campsites and knew that we wanted to check one out the next time we picked up a rental! Beyond glad that we did, it's incredibly comfortable, handles well, has lots of space and plenty of technology as well. In the next video we upload we will take you through a detailed tour of the inside and outside to show what a $150,000 campervan looks like to go vanlife in!
Our road trip begins from Nelson, making our way out to Marlborough, parking up for a bit as we explore into the Marlborough Sounds and then cruise down the east coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

I travelled the South Island, New Zealand back in August 2019, and its only now (7th April 2021) that I'm finally uploading this video.
Take note, I may look younger in this video as I made the 'talking head' part of the video over a year ago too.
I'm very aware that New Zealand is still a difficult country to enter with its restrictions on entry during the pandemic, but I hope this video will give people planning a trip to New Zealand for the future some ideas.

Best New Zealand North Island Coromandel Road Trip | Travellers Autobarn Campervan 2018 Part 1.
Our first day with the campervan, we pitch up at a campsite near Thames, South of Auckland before heading to the Coromandel Peninsula and the hot sands of Hot Water Beach, Cathedral Cove and walking an old railway line and on to Taupo and some thermal springs. New Zealand's Incredible North Island is a dream for a campervan road trip. Here we are exploring the delights of a road trip from our 5 week trip in March 2018. We hired our campervan from Travellers Autobarn, starting from Auckland, the 2-3 berth Kuga suited us fine, after we'd rented the same time in 2017 for an epic road trip across Australia!! New Zealand is fab, perfect for a camper trip and all that the freedom of the open road allows!!

After months of planning and budget allocation, we made it to New Zealand to begin van life on the South Island for 16 days. Things started out a tad unexpectedly but were well worth it to be able to surround ourselves with the majestic beauty of New Zealand right outside of our sliding van door. This is our experience.

New Zealand Campervan Adventure - South Island
In this video Sarah and I escape Sydney just before Covid lockdown to experiment life living in a van.
We travel around parts of the South Island with no real plan.
We visited Wanaka, Twizel, Mt Cook, Lake Tekapo, Alexandra, Gore, Te Anau, Milford Sound, and Queenstown. My favourite parts of this trip are our hike to Roys Peak, our helicopter flight over Mt Cook, and the cruise through Milford Sound. Oh and the Luge in Queenstown is rad!
