OSH BAZAAR - A Tourist Walkthrough.

The largest and most central market in the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Always a fascinating place to visit. Despite the name, this market is not in the city of Osh. Don't ask me why this is.

Exploring Osh Bazaar in Bishkek ????????

On my second day in Bishkek I took a taxi to Osh Bazaar (Ош базары), one of the most popular gathering spots for locals who go there to purchase food, drink, common household goods, clothes and much more.

I, myself, was on the hunt for some souvenirs - but would I find any? Join me as I explore Osh Bazaar in Bishkek.

Inside the biggest bazaar in central Asia ???????? | The Osh bazaar, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan | 4K

Located at the heart of Bishkek, Osh Bazaar is the place to come when you’re looking for absolutely anything. In this video, I am simply walking around inside the bazaar to give you a glimpse of what it consists of. This overcrowded, loud and overwhelming market has one major draw – in that it’s absurdly cheap to buy things here. The Osh Bazaar is the main market where the locals of Bishkek come to buy and sell their products so it’s still very authentic and not overrun by tourists yet. This labyrinth is worth it for the local color and the fact that you can find anything under the sun here.

Locals warned me before going there about pickpocketing , specially when it gets crowded on weekends. White tourists become a nice target for some people there. That's why I had shorts with zipper pockets, and I was constantly making sure that the zippers were closed at all times.

If you are looking for a more detailed review of the Osh bazaar, here is an in-depth blog I found online that covers almost everything you need to know before going there. Here is the link:

Osh (Ош) is the second biggest city in Kyrgyzstan in the Fergana Valley. Here I have walk through the Osh Bazar street market and a stroll through the park.

Exploring BISHKEK, KYRGYZSTAN'S Ancient Silk Road Markets ????????

Welcome to my first Travel Vlog in Kyrgyzstan! In this Kyrgyzstan Travel Vlog I explore the 2 ancient silk road markets in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is the capital city of Kyrgyzstan and is home to some of Central Asia’s best markets. Many locals in Kyrgyzstan have told me that visiting the Dordoy (Dordoi) Market and the Osh Bazaar are like taking a step back in time to the old silk road. The Silk Road was an ancient trading route connecting the East and the West, where goods like spices, teas, silk, and so much more were exchanged across the world.

The first Central Asian Market I visited was the Dordoi Bazaar Bishkek (Dordoi Market), which is located about 15 minutes outside the center of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The Dordoy Bazaar Bishkek is one of Central Asia’s biggest markets and is focused more on wholesale and retail items with everything from clothes to household goods, and so much more. The Dordoy Market is home to thousands of blue containers where the local vendors sell their products. The Dordoi Market is a huge bustling bazaar and it was an amazing experience to wonder around the bazaar.

After visiting the Dordoy Market, I took a taxi to the Osh Bazaar Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, which is the most famous bazaar in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The Bishkek Osh Bazaar is really like taking a step back in time to the ancient silk road. The Osh Bazaar is full of spices, dried fruits, nuts, breads, teas, and so much more. The smells and sounds of the Osh Bazaar are like nothing I have ever experienced. At the Bishkek Osh Bazaar I decided to buy some dried fruits, nuts, and local Kyrgyz bread. The vendors in the Osh Bazaar Bishkek Kyrgyzstan are extremely friendly too! If you visit Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan I would highly recommend a visit to the Bishkek Osh Bazaar to get a glimpse of the local culture. The Osh Bazaar is a famous market in Central Asia and is definitely one of my favorite markets I have ever been to in the entire world. I hope you enjoyed my first Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan travel vlog and wondering 2 of the best Central Asia Markets!

Our visit Bishkek travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Bishkek tourism brochure or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan city tour.

15 things to do in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:

Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.

First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.

Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!

It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.

Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.

We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.

And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.

As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.

With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.

And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. As always, if you have any suggestions of things to do in Bishkek, feel free to share your tips with fellow travellers in the comments section below. See you next time!

This is part of our Travel in Kyrgyzstan video series showcasing Kyrgyz food, Kyrgyz culture and Kyrgyz cuisine.

Exploring the Rich Culture and History of Osh, Kyrgyzstan: Alymbek Datka, Sulaiman-Too Mountain

Osh, Kyrgyzstan is a city located in the Ferghana Valley in Central Asia. It is one of the oldest cities in the region and has a rich history and culture that is deeply intertwined with the Silk Road, Islam, and the Kyrgyz people. Osh is famous for its stunning Sulaiman-Too mountain, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural and historical significance.

The history of Osh can be traced back to the 5th century BC when it was known as Uzgen. Over the centuries, the city grew in importance as a key stop on the Silk Road, the ancient trade route that connected China with the Mediterranean. Osh was an important center for trade, religion, and culture, and played a vital role in the development of the region.

One of the most significant figures in the history of Osh was Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire in India. Babur was born in the city in 1483 and spent his childhood here before moving on to conquer India. His influence can still be seen in Osh today, and the city has many monuments and landmarks that commemorate his life and legacy.

One of the most important aspects of life in Osh is food. The city is famous for its delicious and hearty dishes, including Plov, a rice-based dish with meat, carrots, and onions, and Lagman, a noodle soup made with vegetables and meat. These dishes are staples of the Kyrgyz diet and are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Osh is also known for its stunning natural beauty. The city is surrounded by the Alay Mountain range, which includes some of the highest peaks in Central Asia. Each year, Osh hosts the Alay Mountain Festival, a celebration of the region's culture and traditions that attracts visitors from all over the world. The festival includes music, dance, food, and outdoor activities such as hiking and rock climbing.

Religion is an important part of life in Osh, and the city has a strong Islamic heritage. A major Islamic holiday, Kurman Ait also known as Eid Al-Adha, is celebrated in Osh with great enthusiasm and is an important part of the city's cultural calendar. The Chaykhana Navat, a traditional teahouse, is a popular gathering place for locals to relax and socialize.

Another important feature of life in Osh is the Jayma Bazaar, a bustling market that sells everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts. The bazaar is a great place to experience the local culture and get a taste of everyday life in Osh.

One of the most important figures in the history of Osh is Alymbek Datka, a legendary leader of the Alay Kyrgyz tribe who fought against Russian expansion in the region in the 19th century. Today, Alymbek Park in Osh is named in his honor and is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

Another significant figure in Osh's history is Kurmanjan Datka, a powerful and influential woman who led the Kyrgyz people during a time of political upheaval in the 19th century. She is celebrated as a national hero in Kyrgyzstan, and her life and legacy are commemorated at the Kurmanjan Datka Museum in Osh.

The National Historical and Archaeological Museum Complex Sulayman is another important landmark in Osh. The complex is located at the base of the Sulaiman-Too mountain and includes a number of historical and cultural exhibits that provide insight into the city's rich history.

Osh is also a great base for exploring the surrounding region. The city is located near the Pamir Mountains, which include the famous Lenin Peak, and the Abshir Ata Waterfall is a popular

Osh, Guided Tour in City Park and Jayma Bazaar - Kyrgyzstan 4K Travel Channel

The footpath from the Meerim Park along the Kamel River is closed today. So we have to walk along the Lenin Avenue up to the City Park. In the City Park, a little surprise awaits us. A Soviet jet plane parks here. Another attraction is a Ferris wheel. We walk parallel to the Kamel River in northern direction to the Jayma Bazaar. Everywhere are stalls with candy, ice or a snack.
In between are many fairground rides or stalls for the entertainment of the children. But also the adults find their entertainment. Women have a chat over a drink, while the men find the muse to play chess.
The Jayma Bazaar is more than 3000 years old and probably the biggest market in Central Asia. During our first visit to the Jayma Bazaar, we only found the area with clothing, food, fruit, and household goods.
This is different today. Abdullaev Atabek from Destination Osh knows his way around here very well. He first keeps left, in the west of the bazaar. After visiting a souvenir stand with nice chess games, he shows us a booth that offers accordions.
Then we reach a place with heavily dilapidated sales booths. Two days ago we have seen them. But we thought that they are no longer needed and that the bazaar ends here. But these are stalls that were devastated during the riots in 2010 and have not been restored since then.
After that, we pass stalls with lovely carpets, a broom binder and a place where people are looking for jobs.
A large sales booth with sewing machines drags us into its spell. You can certainly find some rarities here.
The creches for the babies also occupy a large space. One explains us the drainage system in detail.
At the next square, we find knives and food. Pig feet seem to be of great popularity. Also, textiles can be found here again.
.......
please read more:
