Are YOU planning a Japan trip in 2018? Looking for things to do in Hiroshima? The Onomichi Temple Walk is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Japanese culture by checking out numerous Japanese shrines and temples (over 25 in Onomichi), visit Cat Alley and take the ropeway (or walk) up Mount Senko-ji.
However! Onomichi is a typical small Japanese town (almost like a ghost town and pretty deserted) with most local shops being closed on certain weekdays, which is frustrating! To actually find some life in Onomichi head to the area clos to Onomichi Station, where you can find Onomichi U2, with places to shop and eat.
Please note the negativity and sarcasm in this video is exactly that and is a reflection of how it can feel being in Japan for an extended period! Extreme honesty is a trademark of my channel and no offence is intended - Japan is awesome!
Overall Onomichi is probably a great place to visit in Japan, just not in early February when it's freezing cold and snowing!

Exploring the beautiful city of Onomichi in Hiroshima prefecture
Today I explore the beautiful city of Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Onomichi is very famous for the Shimanami-Kaido(しまなみ海道). But if you watch this video I think you’d want to see other parts of the town too. And there’s much more than I was able to show you in the video.
In the video I said “Onomichi is famous for a couple dishes” and I introduced the Onomichi Ramen. But besides that, Okonomiyaki arranged in Onomichi style which locals call “Onomichiyaki” is super yummy too. I tried it off camera and it was awesome. If you have a chance, try it.

Are you planning a Japan Trip in 2018? Visiting Hiroshima? Looking for a day trip from Hiroshima or Things to do in Hiroshima?
Takehara is a small town to the east of Hiroshima close to Tadanoumi and Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) which is often referred to as the Mini Kyoto or Little Kyoto, full of Edo style architecture, history, shrines and temples.
A great opportunity to experience small town Japan and learn more of the history of Japan, even though everything may be closed!

Hiroshima was hit by an atomic bomb in August 1945. Today, you can visit the Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Park and Museum to learn more about this horrendous event which affected thousands of people.
Another way of learning more and discovering information not available in museums is to speak to Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Survivors, another fascinating addition to your list of Things to Do in Hiroshima.
Visit Social Book Cafe in Hiroshima on the 6th of each month to speak to survivors of the Atomic Bomb. In this video, I talk about the story of Takaaki Morikawa, who was just 6 years old at the time of the Hiroshima bomb. He provided fascinating and intreresting information relating to his experience during and after the atomic bomb.
Please note that I chose not to film the actual meeting for this video as I didn't feel comfortable; ie I didn't feel it would be respectful. Why not visit Social Book Cafe in Hiroshima to hear Takaaki's amazing and unimaginable story for yourselves!

Q: How long was the trip?
A: Around 18 days. But I would say it's doable in 2 weeks. If you want more time to explore then 3 weeks should be more than adequate.
Q: How many days do I need in each city?
A: I would say 3-5 days in Kyoto and Osaka. Nara 1-2 days. At least 4-6 days in Tokyo but the more the better.
Q: How much did it cost?
A: Excluding hotels + airplane tickets we had a budget of around 2000 USD
Q: Is there vegan restaurant options in Japan?
A: Yes, I found plenty, and most restaurants offer vegan-friendly meals
Q: Which month did you go?
A: We visited in July but I would recommend visiting in either the Autumn or Spring season

I visited the A-Bomb dome in Hiroshima Japan, where the United States dropped the first ever atomic bomb in human history and killed hundreds of thousands of people. The memorial and museum at the site serve as a reminder for world peace.

Just a minute’s walk from the exit of Itsukishima Shrine, the temple is famous nationwide for its enshrinement of one of the 3 Great Benzaiten in Japan within its hondo main hall. There are also many highlights aside from the visit to the temple including a Rubbing Buddha and the 9-trunk pine tree.

Daiganji Temple or Kikyozan Hokoin belongs to the Koyosan Branch od the Shingon denomination of Buddhism. The founder of this temple is not known though it is said that the temple was reconstructed by Priest Ryokai between 1201 and 1203 in the Kamakura period.
Prior to the decree of Shinto-Buddhism separation by the Meiji government, this temple was in charge of the repair and construction of Itsukushima Shrine, Hakozakigu and Usahachimangu Shrines in Kyushu and many others.
In the main hall, there are four Buddha statues which are designated as a National Important Cultural Property. One of the four is Yakushi Nyorai Zazo, a seated statue of Medicine Buddha and is said to have been made by Kobo Daishi or Kukai, the founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism.
Under the decree of Shinto-Buddhism Separation, three statues were moved from Senjokaku to this temple. They are Shaka Nyorai Zazo, a seated statue of Buddha Gautama, said to have been made by Gyoki, Anan Sonjazo, and Makakasho Sonjazo. Anan Sonjazo and Makakasho Sonja are of the main ten disciples of Buddha.
Also three statues (Shaka Nyorai Zazo, a seated statue of Buddha Gautama, Monju Bosatsu, or Wisdom Buddha, and Fugen Bosatsu or Mercy Buddha) were moved from the Five Storied Pagoda to the temple. At the entrance of the main hall is enshrined Binzuru Sonja, known as Nadebotoke. Visitors rub the Buddha for medical cures.
Daiganji Temple is dedicated to Benzaiten, the Goddess of eloquence, music, wisdom and wealth, and is known as one the the three most famous Benzaiten Temples
