North Vietnam Loop: Ha Giang - Cao Bang
In October 2018 we started our trip in North Vietnam.
9 days motorbike loop: Ha Giang - Dong Van - Meo Vac - Bao Lac - Cao Bang (Ban Gioc Waterfall) - Babe Lake - Ha Giang.
Then we moved by bus to the Cat Ba Island and final stop was Ha Noi. Whole trip took 15 days.
Our EPIC Northern Vietnam MOTORBIKE adventure begins! (Ha Giang Loop to Cao Bang Province)
For our final adventure in Vietnam we went on an EPIC motorbike trip in the northern part of the country. And we definitely saved the best for last! The first 3 days of the trip took us on part of the famous Ha Giang Loop to the Cao Bang Province. We rode up and down crazy mountain passes, took a boat ride through the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia, went to the northernmost point of the country, looked into China, visited our guide's village, and saw way too many insane views to count.

The Ha Giang Loop is one of my favourite things I have done in 18 months of travelling South East Asia, this motorbike loop in Northern Vietnam is one of the craziest, most breathtaking experiences you can do BUT it’s also dangerous. Northern Vietnam’s Ha Giang loop by motorbike
The Ha Giang province in the northernmost part of Vietnam is a fascinating place where craggy mountains tower above serpentine roads and rice fields. Travellers come from far and wide to explore the majestic landscapes ride the epic mountain passes by motorcycle. Earlier this year (pre COVID-19 pandemic), I had the opportunity to ride the Ha Giang Loop on a Honda XR150.
Northern Vietnam is a special place with unparalleled rugged beauty that made for an unforgettable motorcycle adventure.
While I was stunned by the natural beauty and truly loved riding here, I also became aware of some of the challenges that many people living in northern Vietnam face, particularly those living in rural areas such as Ha Giang. Many children living here are poor and not likely to attend school. According to SOS Children's Village, an international charity, it is not uncommon for children to be without parental care as their parents have left in search of work. Children are often left behind with grandparents or family members and many are abandoned and forced to live on the streets. I witnessed this first hand on my trip and was heartbroken after encountering a young boy living on the street in Yên Minh who was left to fend for himself.
I recognize how lucky I am to be able to travel for pleasure, but also want to bring to light the injustice of child poverty, and highlight the work that charities such as SOS Children's Village in Vietnam who are working to provide care for disadvantaged children in this country.

Is it worth doing the Ha Giang loop when in Vietnam? Absolutely YES.
Although, it isn’t always plain sailing and things do sometimes go wrong while doing this amazing 3 day tour in northern Vietnam. In this video I will show you the realities of driving the Ha Giang loop, the epic scenery that you will be driving through, what the tour actually includes, the not so good things about this tour and who to book it with.
Wether you want to ride the Ha Giang loop yourself or with an ‘easy rider’, you will definitely have the time of your life.
The hostel I stayed at the night before, and who I booked the tour with was Hong Hao hostel and I paid £145. Riding yourself is cheaper but I don't remember the price.

Best of Traveling Northern Vietnam 11 Days on a Motorcycle - 4K Cinematic Trip Experience
Recap of our trip into northern Vietnam for 11 days on motorcycles. We took an overnight bus from Hanoi up to Cao Bang to start our journey and arrived at QT Motorbike rentals just when it was opening. Our first few days were cold, foggy, and slightly raining. Starting in Cao Bang we ventured towards Ban Gioc Waterfall. Stopping at Nam Tra lakes, taking in the culture, getting lost, then eventually making it to Cho Trung to stay overnight. The fog picked up the next day so we headed back to Cao Bang and up to Coc Bo Cave area which is where the Ho Chi Minh trail begins. The adventure continued west into Bao Lac then to Meo Vac where we did most of the Ha Giang Loop.

CAO BANG LOOP Vietnam - How to travel to Cao Bang by night bus
Caobang is an immensely beautiful, sparsely populated frontier, a region of North Vietnam where this mountainous expanse sits on the northeast border with China and is home to many ethnic minority communities.
