Description of Acle from Broads.co.uk:
Known as the “Gateway to the Broads”, Acle is a great stop off point en-route to Great Yarmouth, with plenty of moorings and places to eat and drink at Acle Bridge. While there is plenty to keep you entertained here, make sure that you take the time to visit the main market village of Acle, located about a mile from the bridge, for its shopping, flourishing atmosphere and rich history. The surrounding countryside is also a wonderful place for a walk.

At Acle Bridge, boaters are greeted by a long bank, offering the ideal place to moor. This is the site of the annual Acle regatta, which sees dozens of traditional yachts competing in May, but otherwise is the perfect place to sit back and admire the scenery!

The best way to take in the open views of wild marshes is to stretch your legs and make the most of a wonderful network of footpaths both above and below the bridge, including the Weavers Way long-distance footpath. A circular walk along the River Bure to Upton and across the fields to Acle village is a favourite with locals.

Full of historic charm and a great place to stock up on supplies, a visit to the bustling market village of Acle is well worth the mile-long walk along a pleasant roadside footpath. It boasts some very attractive 17th and 18th century buildings and Acle’s star attraction, St Edmund’s Church, which dates back to the 13th century and wows visitors with its turreted round tower and thatched nave.

There is no shortage of amenities, including a supermarket, butcher’s and a bank, as well as cash points, a post office, hardware store, newsagent, restaurants, takeaways, cafes and pubs, plus a library, chemist, doctor’s surgery, opticians, vets and train station. A small market is held every Thursday morning, with a live auction of household furniture and decorative items.

The River Bure is one of the most popular and widely-known rivers on the Norfolk Broads, which is a fascinating network of interconnected lakes and rivers in eastern England. It is said to be the most visited of all the waterways in Norfolk, and draws canoeists, yachters, and pleasure boaters from all over the world.

The River Bure is a relatively short river, measuring just under thirty miles in length. It begins at the picturesque village of Horning, where it flows out of the upper end of the long and narrow Barton Broad. From there, the River Bure meanders eastwards through the gently rolling countryside, passing through a series of picturesque villages and hamlets along the way, including Coltishall, Wroxham and Acle.

Eventually, the Bure empties into the North Sea at the bustling port of Great Yarmouth.
One of the most striking features of the River Bure is its huge expanse of reed beds and marshes, which are home to a wide variety of aquatic birds and animals. These include everything from water voles and otters to kingfishers and marsh harriers. The river is also famous for its pretty watermills, ancient churches, and historic windmills, many of which remain in excellent working condition to this day.

The River Bure is a truly magical place, offering visitors the chance to explore some of the most breathtaking and unspoilt countryside in England. Whether you choose to sail, paddle or fish your way down the river, this is one of the most unforgettable experiences you will ever have. So why not come and discover the beauty of the River Bure for yourself!

???? The Norfolk Broads LIVE - Wroxham, Potter Heigham & Ranworth Broad

Join me as we do a LIVE walking tour of the world famous Norfolk Broads
We start the unedited live tour at the capital of the Broads Worxham

The twin villages of Wroxham and Hoveton sit either side of the meandering River Bure. Together known as the capital of the Broads, this community is the heart and hub of boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads.

Next we are in Potter Heigham which is one of the major boating centre's on the Norfolk Broads, with many boating holidays or day trips starting from here. The famous medieval bridge gives access to the Upper Thurne, Hickling Broad and Horsey Mere. The banks of the River Thurne at Potter Heigham are lined with waterside bungalows, which can only be accessed by foot or boat. There is the famous Lathams discount store located here, as well as a pub, chip-shop and newsagent. The main village itself is actually located the other side of the major A149 road and is mainly residential and quite separate from the boating centre, but does contain the lovely village church.

And finally we head to NWT Ranworth Broad which is a fantastic place with a beautiful church which we take a trip up the tower. Situated only 20 minutes outside Norwich, Ranworth contains a wide range of habitats and a fantastic variety of wildlife, all to be seen from 750m of boardwalk. Find our floating visitor centre, nestled in reeds, with amazing views out across the open water, at the end.

The Last of the Black sailed Traders - The Ely Trip

An Anglia TV program from 1973 giving a brief history of what at the time was the sole surviving Norfolk trading wherry Albion and its journey around the Norfolk coast from Great Yarmouth to the 1973 Inland Waterways National Waterways Festival at Ely. A journey that is unlikely to be contemplated nowadays !

We bought a REX over a SAILRITE. Did we choose well? (Sailing SV Sarean) EP. 27

Our old 1950's sewing machine was a monster who loved eating anything you put under its foot. It was time to swap it out for something much more practical - so after much research and pondering we took a gamble - and bought a REX.

The REX is a copy of the famous SAILRITE - and it had received mixed reviews, as with other copy models (New-Tech, Family Sew, Strongarm) however we took the gamble and ordered one.

Typically, we put it to the test on one of the tougher jobs one can do - sail repair. Did we have a win? Did we buy a dud? Watch and see...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING!!!

Discover Lowestoft and Oulton Broad on The Suffolk Coast

Sitting proudly in the northernmost part of The Suffolk Coast is Lowestoft. Famous for being the most easterly town and the first place to see the sunrise in the UK, it's also the birthplace of composer Benjamin Britten.

The town is a favourite with families, and there's plenty to see and do; with two piers, a wildlife park, an award-winning theme park, museums and a busy theatre which is home to the Royal Philhamonic Orchestra.

Forming the Southern Gateway to the Broads National Park, Oulton Broad is a busy tourist and sporting centre with many beautiful sights to take in, a range of activities to try out and places to visit, shop, eat and drink. It is a place to slow your pace and meander by cycle, foot or boat and admire the scenery and wildlife and explore at your leisure.

Discover more and plan your visit at:

7 Things You HAVE to DO and SEE on the Norfolk Coast

After spending a few summers on the Norfolk Coast, it has become one of my favourite summer destinations. Whether you want to relax by the seaside or get active in nature, there are plenty of things to get up to. With over 90 miles of coastline, it can be difficult to choose where to head to.

Here are my 7 recommendations for things to see and do on the Norfolk Coast!

✔️Visit Sheringham and have a meal at Fat Teds
✔️Norfolk Coastal Walk
✔️Catch the Poppy Line (Steam Train) to Holt
✔️Explore the Georgian architecture in Holt
✔️Visit Cromer Pier and pick up drinks at Poppyland Brewery & Distillery
✔️See the seals and wildlife at Blankeney Point
✔️Dips your toes at one of Norfolks finest beaches at Wells Next to Sea
