Hotel Business Financial Free Fall

Glenn Haussman and Anthony Melchiorri from Travel Channel's Hotel Impossible, spoke with Jan Freitag, SVP of STR to understand the financial ramifications to the hotel industry because of what is happening. Watch now!

How are the major corporations handling the recent pandemic outbreak? Many governors have stepped up and took actions depending on what they think is right. There is a difference in regional response because the lawmakers and governors in specific states have different perspectives and action plans on what must be implemented. Now isn't the right time to lose faith because now is the perfect time to be united. What is the negative impact of Covid-19 to the hospitality industry? This week, Anthony Melchiorri And Glenn Haussman welcome John to talk about the latest happenings.

Part One of ‘STR's Freitag and Glenn Make Sense of Everything’

There's a giant lockdown that is taking place everything around the globe that has affected both small and large businesses. You may feel overwhelmed by all of the things happening recently but we are just at the beginning of what is going to be a string of very poor weekly results, and the final outcome is too early to predict. Right now, everyone must put social distance into practice for safety. It means that places like airports and hotel lobbies are places you can't go into. Fair enough, there's a valid reason for all the travel bans happening both locally and internationally.

“We could probably use a little bit of a double gut check before we pull the trigger on any decisions.” – Glenn Haussman

The deadly threat of Covid-19 is frightening, but employers must do the best they can to comfort their employees, at least. Be the calming voice out there and stop reacting from a place of fear. If you can be a hero, be a hero, and worry about it later. If you can't afford to be a hero, explain to your team what situation you're in. Transparency and honesty are both vital. One of the most significant concerns of many business owners right now is their revenue due to the social distancing and lockdown imposed by the government. But the quicker we get this under control, the quicker everything goes back to their regular operations.

Part Two of ‘STR's Freitag and Glenn Make Sense of Everything’

Are you a firm believer in building strong relationships? Hopefully, in a market that we've seen for the last 10 years when you were negotiating, you were negotiating a fair contract and you weren't taking advantage of people. So, when things get tough, people will remember what you did and how you made them feel. And it's not about always doing everything perfectly. It's about how you recover.

But right now, it's not about thinking about your price structure. It's about your good relationship with different companies. And if you don't have that, it will be hard. It's going to be a very slippery slope to climb because right now they don't have time for coffee. They have time for your niceness and some blowing smoke up there. But if you were there for them, they'll pull you up. If you're worried, you've got to re-think the way you do business.

“The way you show up as a leader matters.” – Anthony Melchiorri

We are all in this together. And right now, at this very moment, we need to be a community and care for each other. Tune into the full episode. Watch now!
