New Zealand: Wanaka to Queenstown scenic drive 4k

A road trip from Wanaka to Queenstown in Southern New Zealand. It passes through the famous Crown Range road route with its sweeping vistas and hairpin turns.

April 2nd, 2019

Crown Range Road is a memorable journey located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. It’s an exhilarating road with hairpin bends, serpentines and steep grades.

This asphalted road (formerly State Highway 89) is 68km long. It connects Queenstown with Wanaka. This drive is not for the faint hearted and several of the bends are actual hairpins bends. The drive on the descent drops away to a seemingly bottomless gorge.

Located within the Crown Range, it’s one of the highest roads of the country reaching an altitude of 1.121m (3,677ft) above the sea level. Along the way you should also allow time to stop and admire the massive views. The views along the road are simply stunning and spectacular and the driving is well worth it – with absolutely spectacular views over Queenstown. The views are so breathtaking. Many stops to get out and enjoy the views and take photos. The descent from the Crown Range into the alpine valley below provides the most breathtaking late afternoon views.

The adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown, the South Island’s magnetic mountain resort, thrives on adrenaline. Site of the first commercial bungee-jumping operation — established in 1988 over the Kawarau River — Queenstown is the place to test your courage by jumping off, flying over or skimming above things. During the winter (June through September), visitors flock to four ski areas in the surrounding Southern Alps. The rest of the year, Queenstown serves as the gateway to Mount Aspiring National Park, Fiordland National Park in the west, and countless hikes, including multiday treks on the Milford, Routeburn Greenstone and Caples tracks. In March, the beginning of fall, the crowds have eased but the weather is still great for outdoor adventures.
--

Wanaka is located on the southern shores of Lake Wanaka, in west Otago. Embraced by the Southern Alps, Wanaka is Otago's second resort town after Queenstown.

The crystal-clear waters of Lake Wanaka, New Zealand's fourth largest lake, reflect the snow-capped peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park. Here you can absorb the unstoppable beauty of pristine wilderness, and know that it will be easy to find a great restaurant for dinner. You don't have to be a mountaineer to enjoy the delights of the park (although any one of a dozen world-class local guides can accompany you to the top).

The township of Wanaka is a magnet for visitors who want to find the perfect combination of outdoor adventure and indoor luxury. There are comfortable places to stay, great shops and eateries—and all the time there's the call of the wild. The lake, mountains and around-the-year events calendar will keep you looking forward to tomorrow.

The seasons are particularly noticeable in Wanaka. Spring (October - December) brings an abundance of blossom. Summer brings cloudless, hot, sunny days (January - March). Autumn brings splendid colours of gold and red (April - June), Winter brings crisp days, and snow lovers can enjoy huge freedom the mountain slopes (July - September).

Te Anau and Milford Sound | Day Trip | New Zealand (HD)

Te Anau is a town on the South Island of New Zealand (172 KM from Queenstown). It’s known as a gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Te Anau Caves feature a limestone grotto of Glowworms and an underground waterfall (Real Journeys run 1 hour tour to Glow-warm cave).

Milford Sound is an inlet (sound) in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island (285 KM from Queenstown and 118 KM from Te Anau). The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is very beautiful. Eglington Valley, Mirror Lake, The Divide, Monkey Creek, Homer Tunnel are few of the attractions on the way to Milford Sound. Beautiful mountain ranges with glacier at the peak are both side of the road.

The beauty of Milford Sound doesn’t have any word. This is my little afford to showcase the trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound via Te Anau.

I have avoided this trip for years, But it was one of the best experience I ever had in New Zealand. It is one of the must do experience in New Zealand, Stunning, picturesque views right from the start. However, post-Covid things feel different and I was so glad I changed my mind! New Zealand: Queenstown to Glenorchy scenic drive 4k

Scenic drive in South New Zealand from Queenstown to the Glenorchy. Amazing mountain vistas, valley fog with sheeps, and famous Routeburn trailhead.

April 3, 2019

Queenstown, New Zealand, sits on the shores of the South Island’s Lake Wakatipu, set against the dramatic Southern Alps. Renowned for adventure sports, it’s also a base for exploring the region’s vineyards and historic mining towns. There's bungee jumping off Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge and jet-boating on the Shotover and Dart rivers. In winter, there's skiing on the slopes of The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
--google

This rustic town is a true outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Set against a background of native beech forest and towering mountain ranges, Glenorchy’s surrounds are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Lake Wakatipu and the Dart River offer opportunities for jet boating and kayaking, and some of New Zealand’s best hiking trails can be accessed from here. Horse trekking in the area is also highly recommended.

Glenorchy’s spectacular landscapes have become a prime location for film scouts, depicting many scenes from The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as featuring in the Narnia movies. Twenty kilometres away from Glenorchy, as bucolic farmland gives way to beech forests, lies Paradise. Some say it was christened for its natural charms, others for the paradise ducks that live in the area. Nobody can say for sure how it got its name, but the one thing people agree on is its breathtaking beauty. This is the Middle‑earth™ I had always pictured, Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) said of Paradise.
--

While the Routeburn Track may be a shorter multi-day hike, it has some of the biggest scenery. With soaring mountain peaks, huge valleys, waterfalls and jewel-like lakes the track links the Mount Aspiring National Park with Fiordland National Park. The highest point of the track is 1,255 metres above sea level - so the views are simply spectacular.

The part of New Zealand that the Routeburn Track winds through has been shaped by successive glaciations into fiords, rocky coasts, towering cliffs, lakes and waterfalls. Birdlife is prolific through forested sections of the track; native tomtits, robins, fantails, wood pigeons and bellbirds are commonly seen, as well as the cheeky Kea, the world's only alpine parrot.
