New Zealand Scenic Drive - Te Anau - Queenstown - Lake Pukaki & Tekapo

New Zealand Scenic Drive - Te Anau - Queenstown - Lake Pukaki & Tekapo

Join me for a memorable scenic drive on the southern island of New Zealand. Leaving early Saturday from Te Anau, the final destination was Fernlie just a short distance from Lakes Pukaki and Tekapo with a short visit to Omarama and Queenstown.

Next destination for our New Zealand road trip was Queenstown so we were driving quite a lot this day. Out route included two very famous tourist attractions - Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. Lake Tekapo is well-known because of its beautiful landscapes and the Church of the Good Shepherd - probably the most photographed place in Mackenzie and in New Zealand in general. Lake Pukaki has wonderful views to Mt. Cook and Southern Alps so it is popular among tourists. It also has very clean water going from the glacier so it is an experience to have a swim in it!

So, this day of driving gave us an opportunity to see two very iconic New Zealand attractions on our way to Queenstown. In next vlog we are going to Milford Sound, don't miss it!

Road Trip to Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook | New Zealand

We did this road trip to Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook in New Zealand and it was amazing! So many great landscapes!

We started our trip to lake tekapo where we spent the night and watched the stars nearby the lake tekapo. Lake tekapo is part of UNESCO stargazing places so if you are there wake up in the middle of the night and look up!

Next stop in our road trip in New Zealand was the Lake pulaski and the mount cook. We only say the mount cook from far because we did not have more time and we had to get back to Christchurch, so we stayed south of the lake pukaki and took amazing pictures there.

If you are wondering what to do in New Zealand, don't worry there is plenty of things to do in New Zealand. Roadtrip in new zealand are very famous because you can see a lot of things as the county is massive.

From Lake Tekapo to Mount Cook: Lake Pukaki - New Zealand

New Zealand's South Island part 3. Lake Pukaki is the largest of three roughly parallel alpine lakes running north-south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand's South Island. Lake Pukaki covers an area of 178.7 km², and the surface elevation of the lake normally ranges from 518.2 to 532 metres above sea level.

Te Anau and Milford Sound | Day Trip | New Zealand (HD)

Te Anau is a town on the South Island of New Zealand (172 KM from Queenstown). It’s known as a gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Te Anau Caves feature a limestone grotto of Glowworms and an underground waterfall (Real Journeys run 1 hour tour to Glow-warm cave).

Milford Sound is an inlet (sound) in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island (285 KM from Queenstown and 118 KM from Te Anau). The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is very beautiful. Eglington Valley, Mirror Lake, The Divide, Monkey Creek, Homer Tunnel are few of the attractions on the way to Milford Sound. Beautiful mountain ranges with glacier at the peak are both side of the road.

The beauty of Milford Sound doesn’t have any word. This is my little afford to showcase the trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound via Te Anau.

Video resolution is 1080P.

Honeymoon in New Zealand, Day 11

February 18, 2015 - Driving through New Zealand's Canterbury region from Christchurch to the crystal blue waters and brilliant night sky of Lake Tekapo, before continuing south to Queenstown the following day. STUNNING LAKE in New Zealand - (Realtime 360 drive around Lake Pukaki)

Lake Pukaki is the largest lake in the area, and it proudly shows off New Zealand’s tallest peak, Aoraki/ Mount Cook, from the many look out points around its shores.

The water colour of the lake is a bright turquoise due to glacial flour, made from extremely fine rock particles that have come from the surrounding glaciers. The lake is fed at its northern end by the braided Tasman River, which has its source in the Hooker and Tasman Glaciers.

When the sun hits the surface of the lake, it reflects off the particles transforming it to a brilliant blue. The combination of the magnificent lake, surrounding peaks and wide open skies are a dream for photographers and pose the difficult challenge of capturing the grandeur of the ever-changing landscape.

Lake Pukaki’s spectacular vista can be enjoyed by car with stop-offs for photographs at the various look out points. There are spectacular views of the lake on the drive on State Highway 80 to Aoraki/Mount Cook Village, and also along on the road between Twizel and Lake Tekapo Village. Alternatively, you can enjoy the lake on foot or by bike on one of the many tracks on its perimeter – including the stunning Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, or in the air via a scenic flight.
