TSA Food Carry On Rules 2020

TSA Food Carry On Rules 2020

If you are flying with food in 2020, the TSA, transportation security administration, has instituted changes on how food is screened.

Stay with us we go over the new rule regarding how to pack food going forward.

Hi this is Arnie Jacobsen TV, and here we talk….

The new X-ray screening procedure for food items is set to roll out the middle of June 2020.

Food is no longer allowed in your carry-on case or your personal item bag. Food now needs to be separated to pass through x-ray screening.

These changes apply to any solid food or snack that you may carried in your carryon bags in the past.

This rule change is because the nature of the food items is not easily identifiable in the bag though screening. This has led to slowing down the line as officers have had to do manual investigations.

This also puts officers at greater risk due to the danger of Covid-19 being transmitted.

Now Any carry-on food items should now be packed into a clear plastic bag, which is then placed into a bin at the checkpoint. Food items often trigger an alarm during the screening process; separating the food from the carry-on bag lessens the likelihood that a TSA officer will need to open the carry-on bag and remove the food items for a closer inspection.

This requirement allows social distancing, reduces the TSA officer’s need to touch a person’s container of food and reduces potential for cross-contamination.
TSA Precheck members do not need to remove items from their bags.

If you do not follow the new food rules you may be asked to step to the back of the line to repack your food items. Which means that you then will need to pass through the line all over again.

The rules are pretty straightforward. No matter the type of food, make sure that you place it in that clear plastic bag that can then be placed in the grey tubs to pass through screening.

Hope this has been of some value to you and that you if you have to travel right now that you protect yourself and others. Stay safe.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Please remember to subscribe and click the bell, give us a thumbs up if you found this useful, leave a comment and share to others.

Thanks again and we’ll see you in the next one.

Pasta Salad Recipe:

Ingredients-
Pasta or Rice of choice (I used GF Brown Rice Pasta)
Grape or Cherry Tomatos
Cucumber
Kalamata Olives
Feta Cheese
Kale or Spinach
Italian Dressing

Directions-
1. Cook pasta per instructions (I like to leave it a bit more al dente because it will absorb more of the dressing for more flavor)
2. Slice tomatos and olives in fourths
3. Chop up cucumber (I like about 1/2 inch size chunks)
4. Chop up spinach or kale
5. Mix pasta and veggies in bowl, add dressing to taste.
6. Top with crumbled Feta Cheese
**As I mention in the video, you could add cooked chicken or maybe some salami to the salad. You could also add roasted to chickpeas and eliminate the feta for a vegan version.
