At the crossroads of culture, Nessebar was a starting line for many European concepts we take for granted today. Originally a Thracian settlement, it became a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. But the peninsular town possesses more than the remains of an assortment of iconic and historic eras. This hub on the Black Sea changed the world because the very concept of money was pioneered here.
Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983, the cobblestone streets encourage aimless wandering through the historic city, and the ancient trading atmosphere lives on with street vendors selling art and handicrafts throughout the town.

Nessebar is one of the heritage towns marked as not to be missed by all tourist guides. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nessebar is located in the south-east of Bulgaria, on a picturesque peninsula. Old wooden houses and Byzantine churches combine with the charm of the rocky coastline to create a unique ensemble, waiting to be discovered.
About 30 km north of Bourgas and only a few kilometers from the Coast of the Sun, located on a very small peninsula in the Black Sea, Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded by the Thracians around 3000 years before the new era and represents the richest city in Byzantine architecture in Bulgaria. In antiquity it was one of the powerful Hellenistic colonies on the southern (Bulgarian) coast of the Black Sea together with Sozopol (Apollonia) and Pomorie (Anhialo), its powerful rivals. Her name was Messemvria.
23 churches and monuments trace the Greek, Roman and Byzantine past of Nessebar. The city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983 and almost left it in 2010 due to the excessive invasion of the small peninsula by the stalls of merchants selling souvenirs to tourists.
Nessebar experienced a great economic and commercial boom in antiquity. Powerful colony, in the year 440 before the new era the city began to mint its own coins, then between the 3rd and 2nd century before the new era it began to mint its first gold coins. The objects exhibited in the city's archaeological museum testify to the wealth of its inhabitants and the opulent life that was led there.
Just like Sozopol Nessebar was conquered by the Roman legions around the year 70 before the new era. The capital of the Empire was not long in being established in Constantinople and Nessebar became the favorite place of the emperors who came to take care of their health at the thermal baths. After the establishment of Christianity as the official religion Nessebar continued to develop with the same pomp. More than 40 churches were built, the main one being called Saint Sofia, like the one in Constantinople.

Die Altstadt von Nessebar (Weltkulturerbe)
Nessebar ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Burgas an der Schwarzmeerküste von Bulgarien. Die Kopfsteinpflasterstraßen der Altstadt, die auf einer Landzunge liegt, werden von Ruinen byzantinischer Festungen und Bäder gesäumt. In den Ruinen der Sophienkirche aus dem 5. Jahrhundert finden sich Steinsäulen und riesige Bogenfenster. Die Stephanskirche aus dem 11. Jahrhundert beherbergt hunderte Wandgemälde und ein großes, üppig verziertes Altargemälde.

NESSEBAR AND BURGAS TOUR (Unesco World Heritage Site)

Originally a Thracian settlement, it became a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. But the peninsular town possesses more than the remains of an assortment of iconic and historic eras. This hub on the Black Sea changed the world because the very concept of money was invented here.
Nessebar was once an important trading city and part of the Delian League: an alliance of ancient Greek states. During the centuries to follow, it remained a strategic nexus for the cultures and epochs that passed through this pivotal place. Today, you'll find the remnants of these eras in the form of buildings from the Middle Ages and Byzantine Empires. The historic city, located in modern-day Bulgaria, reflects all the stages of development of architectural styles in the Balkans.
Nessebar was also responsible for another key aspect of the region's development—namely the evolution of trade and a monetary system to match.
Nessebar is proud of its churches. The Church of St. Sofia, known as the Old Metropolitan Church, and the Church of Virgin Eleusa, situated on the northern shore, are three-aisled basilicas dating to the early Byzantine period in the 5th and 6th centuries. The Church of St. John the Baptist, from the 11th century, is distinguished by its cylindrical dome. The Church of St. Stephen is remarkable for its frescoes from the 16th century.
Nessebar is also the cultural treasury of Bulgaria. In 1956 it was declared “a museum town, an archaeological, and architectural reserve.” Because of its unique historic value, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983. Today, the Old Town is an attractive place for romantic walks along the narrow cobbled streets, between boutiques selling interesting handmade goods.
Burgas is one of the largest cities in the country. It is situated on the Black Sea shore, in Burgas Bay, at a distance of 400 km from Sofia and 130 km from Varna. Burgas is an administrative center of the area with the same name. The city's population is more than 230,000 people.
The Burgas port is the largest cargo port in the country. The airport which serves international flights is situated at a distance of 10 km northeast of the city.
Burgas is the cultural center of the region, which is evident by the active work of the Burgas Opera, Dramatic Theater “Adriana Budevska”, and the State Puppet Theater of Burgas. There are also multiple galleries in the city. Many cultural events are also conducted in the renovated Marine Casino. The Marine Park is a suitable place for a walk and relaxation. The summer theater of the city is also situated here. Diverse concerts and performances are conducted in it.
The Burgas fore bridge is one of the favorite places for walking of the residents and visitors of the city. It was constructed in 1936 and is situated near the Casino.

Odkrywamy Bułgarie ... ona jest niesamowita !!! Nessebar , jego urok i atmosfera zrobiły na nas niesamowite wrażenia ! Będzie jeszcze kilka odcinków , co najmniej 3 .... Nessebar jest niesamowity , to była bardzo dobra decyzja by spędzić tu część naszego krótkiego urlopu !
Noclegi wykupiliśmy przez Booking w Guest House Antoaneta , bardzo blisko morza ... w zasadzie wszędzie jest bardzo blisko , a sam hostel jest jednocześnie zdala od hałasu i miejskiego zgiełku ;) . Jak na hostel bardzo dobrze się prezentuje coś w rodzaju małago hoteliku - sporych rozmiarów pokój , niedużą aczkolwiek wystarczającą lodówkę ... i balkon ! Właścicielka bardzo sympatyczna i pomocna , mimo ustalonej późniejszej godziny przyjazdu nie było problemu by nas przyjąć wcześniej :) . Nie ważne czy wyruszaliśmy w miasto do nowego czy starego Nessebaru , czy za dnia czy nocą - zawsze czuliśmy się wspaniale i bezpiecznie ! Bułgarzy są mili , a łatwość z jaką przychodziło nam się z nimi dogadywać , nawet po polsku sprawiała , że czuliśmy się co najmniej tak jak w domu ! To była bardzo dobra decyzja by pojechać do Bułgarii , i na pewno nie skończy się to na tym jednym wyjeździe ! Bułgaria jest niesamowita ... i to nie tylko z perspektywy kurortu z nad plaży Czarnego Morza ! Aż chciało by się tutaj zamieszkać ! Czas pokaże , co czeka nas w przyszłości , a na razie vlogujemy i serdecznie zapraszamy do oglądania naszych video vlogóv !
Coś o minusach : do nich można zaliczyć jedzenie restauracyjne w Starym Nesebarze i mam tu na myśli restauracje o nazwie Hemingways , która jest nie chlubnym tego przykładem , jedyne co jest w niej dobrego to widok na morze i piwo , którego jednak nie brakuje w Bułgarii ... kebaby , na które skusiliśmy się też były ostatniej jakości z pośród wszystkich jakie jedliśmy w Bułgarii . Za to wizyta w sklepie u pana Janka czy Winiarnia Messembria to destynacje conajmnie obowiązkowe ! Wina z Winiarni Messembria są jednymi z najlepszych jakościowo ekskluzywnych win jakie kiedykolwiek piliśmy - i zawsze kiedy nadarzy nam się okazja by je skosztować / zakupić - skorzystamy z niej !

We discover Bulgaria ... she is amazing !!! Nessebar, its charm and atmosphere made an amazing impression on us! There will be a few more episodes, at least 3 .... Nessebar is amazing, it was a very good decision to spend part of our short vacation here!
We bought the accommodation through Booking at Guest House Antoaneta, very close to the sea ... in fact, everything is very close, and the hostel itself is away from the noise and city noise at the same time;). For a hostel, something like a small hotel looks very good - a large room, a small but sufficient fridge ... and a balcony! The owner was very nice and helpful, despite the agreed arrival time, there was no problem to see us earlier :). It doesn't matter if we set off for the city to the new or old Nessebar, whether during the day or at night - we always felt great and safe! Bulgarians are nice, and the ease with which we got along with them, even in Polish, made us feel at least at home! It was a very good decision to go to Bulgaria, and it will definitely not end with this one trip! Bulgaria is amazing ... and not only from the perspective of the resort from the Black Sea beach! You would like to live here! Time will tell what awaits us in the future, and for now we are vlogging and we cordially invite you to watch our video vlogos!
Something about the disadvantages: these include restaurant food in Old Nessebar and I mean the restaurant called Hemingways, which is a notable example of this, the only good thing about it is the view of the sea and beer, which, however, is not lacking in Bulgaria. .. the kebabs that we were tempted by were of the highest quality among all we ate in Bulgaria. But a visit to Mr. Janek's shop or Messembria Winery are mandatory destinations! The wines from the Messembria Winery are some of the best quality and exclusive wines we have ever drank - and whenever we have the opportunity to taste / buy them - we will take advantage of them!
