New Zealand: The Ultimate Travel Guide by TourRadar 5/5

New Zealand: The Ultimate Travel Guide by TourRadar gives you all the info you need to explore this nation of Kiwis. Learn some basics about the country, including what you have to do & see once you arrive, when it's best to travel and which food & drinks you definitely need to enjoy throughout your journey.
-----------------------------------------------
New Zealand has a lot to offer even the most particular traveller. From the lively neighbourhoods of Wellington to the breathtaking Fiordland of the South Island, there's an adventure tucked away in every corner of this impressive country. Consider living out your own Lord of the Rings adventure in Hobbiton, or hike past Mt. Doom in Tongariro National Park. Not thrilling enough? Then skydive over Auckland, go white water rafting down Kaituna River or take a leap of faith and bungee jump in Queenstown! When you're in New Zealand, nearly ever adventure is only a stone's throw away.

Make the most out of your visit to this remote island nation by assembling your bucket list with our travel guide. Booking a tour will ensure your trip is fun, flawless and stress-free:

New Zealand boasts a temperate climate with plenty of sunshine and moderate rainfall. Because of the long coast line, you can expect mild temperatures for the most part. The average temperature decreases as you travel south; January and February are the warmest months with July being the coldest month of the year. Remember to pack your waterproof hiking boots, waterproof rain jacket, swimsuit, flip flops, thin gloves, hiking socks, sunglasses, and a camera with extra batteries.

New Zealand's currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZ$). You should expect to be able to switch between cash and cards quite seamlessly, as all major credit cards can be used in New Zealand. Alcohol and restaurant meals can range from moderate to quite expensive so prepare yourself accordingly.

We'd like to thank New Zealand's incredible tourism board for allowing use of their travel footage:

---About New Zealand---

New Zealand, exists on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean and is home to over 4.6 million people, and nearly 30 million sheep.

The country is divided into two portions: the North and South Islands separated by the Cook Strait. The North Island is home to many hot springs and geysers while the South Island is mountainous, forested and covered in glaciers. Over 75% of New Zealanders call the North Island home, and more than 15% of New Zealand's energy comes from renewable resources.

FAQ:
What month did we travel? July/August (Winter)

What rental company did we go through? Britz! The key is to pick-up and drop off in Christchurch. We also didn’t pay the insurance premiums through the company. Instead, we booked it through a 3rd party provider. My final tip, is to book it through a comparison website to get the best deal... for example Motorhome Republic! To be exact, our booking was $452.25 NZD for 9 days... what a winter special!

Where do you park at night? Some places you can free camp it, others you can't. We did a bit of both. However, on really cold nights we stayed at sites so we could use our extra portable heater which runs on power!!

Rotorua Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Rotorua – This New Zealand city is positioned amid some of the most stunning and volatile landscapes on earth and has become a prime spot for adventurous souls. Check out the best things to see and do in Rotorua.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Rotorua:

A #Rotorua #vacation is one to remember. Its volcanic activity makes it a prime spot for hot springs and geysers, and previous geothermal movement has carved impressive landscapes out of the earth.

Your Rotorua #intinerary should include a stop at Te Wairoa, also called the Buried Village. In 1886 when Mt. Tarawera erupted, many of the artifacts and buildings were buried and have since been extracted and put on permanent display.

Test your nerves in the grade 5 rapids of the Kaituna River, or hop into a boat for a high-speed cruise through the winding gorges. Mount Ngongotaha offers a spectacular view of Lake Rotorua; take a gondola ride up to the top to get a 360-degree view of the area.

Round out your day with a soak in one of the many hot springs and plan out your next daring day’s adventure in Rotorua.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Top 5 Things to do in Wellington, New Zealand

Wellington the capital of New Zealand aka the windy city. If you're visiting this beautiful city then check out what our Top 5 Things to do in Wellington are!

Starting with the number one thing to do in Wellington -

#1 Weta Workshop Tour

Weta Workshop are a multi-award winning design studio who are world famous for turning fantasy and imagination into real life. This guided tour is something that every Lord of the Rings fan needs to experience or even if you just love learning about special effects and the magic that goes into prop building for movies. This team of amazing and passionate artists have had their hands in some of the most incredible and iconic films in the past 2 decades.

Make sure you book in advance though as spaces are limited and tickets do sell out.

#2 Climb the famous Mt Victoria
It's a short hike in exchange for some stunning views of the city and Oriental Bay. If you're going to make this climb you can expect to complete a round trip within 40 - 60 minutes depending on your pace.

#3 Visit Te Papa museum
Te Papa is easily the best and most famous museum in New Zealand. A bonus is that it's free entry into most of the museum but to view the Terracotta Warriors it was an additional $20 charge. The Terracotta Warriors exhibit brought in from China will only be running until April, so be sure to check it out before it departs our shores. Te Papa is a super interesting place and you could easily spend a day in the museum exploring all the different exhibits.

#4 Stroll around Oriental Bay
Oriental Bay boasts one of Wellington's finest walks. Beautiful views of the beach, bay and back into the city. Stop off along the way to grab some ice cream and enjoy the cafe life here.

Finally to wrap up our list of top things to do in Wellington...

#5 Ride the historic cable car
The short cable car ride took us up to an amazing viewpoint of the city. For ticket prices and information on what to do once you're up there check out the link below:

Overall we had an amazing time in our capital city especially with all the incredible food too. We hope you get the chance to visit if you ever come to New Zealand!

Here's our video on some of the best places to eat in Wellington:

TranzAlpine Train: The Most Scenic New Zealand Train Journey – New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year

Day 214: Today we’re taking the TranzAlpine Train in New Zealand from Christchurch to Greymouth (and back again). The New Zealand train passes through Arthur’s Pass National Park making it one of the world’s most scenic train journeys.

Yesterday - Day 213 ➜

Tomorrow – Day 215 ➜

30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜

-- About this video --

Today we’re taking the TranzAlpine Train in New Zealand! It’s considered one of the world’s most scenic train trips. Watch this video to see what it’s like to take a return journey with the KiwiRail TranzAlpine Train between Christchurch and Greymouth. It’s one of the great ways to travel across the South Island.

Admittedly, there is not much in the way of train travel in New Zealand, but with what New Zealand trains they do have, they are pretty amazing. The New Zealand TranzAlpine goes from Christchurch to Greymouth where the train goes through Arthur’s Pass National Park in the Southern Alps. The Arthur’s Pass train station is one of the stops before travelling through the Otira Tunnel, which is 8.5km long.

So what do you think of this South Island train journey? Would you add the Christchurch Greymouth Train / Greymouth Christchurch train to your South Island travel itinerary? Would you use this way to travel the South Island? LUK in the comments.
