ATTACKED BY HORDES OF FLIES! | Grootberg, Namibia 4x4 Roadtrip

Day 5 in Namibia, Africa. We drive from Etosha to Grootberg and get attacked by hundreds of thousands of flies. Before reaching insanity, we witness one of the most beautiful sunsets of all time.

This month we're travelling across Namibia to discover some incredible destinations. We're starting in Windhoek, heading north to Etosha, down the skeleton coast before hitting Fish River Canyon in the South.

We're Eliska and Jack - two twenty-somethings living in London but escaping as often and to as many places as possible. Our channel is about finding adventure if you're time or money poor.

Namibia Roadtrip (2019)

I can't remember how many years Namibia has been on my bucketlist. So I was all the more happy when I finally got on the plane to Windhoek in autumn 2019. From there a 24-day road trip started with a rental car including a roof tent. Our route led us from the Fish River Canyon in the south of the country over the Namib Desert along the coast to the Etosha National Park and back to Windhoek. We were accompanied by countless, unique experiences. These included the beautiful safaris, sandstorms in Deadvlei or Kolmanskop with the abandoned houses. There was no lack of impressive pictures.

Therefore it was out of question to capture these breathtaking motives not only photographically but also by filming. From a large number of footage, this short remembering video was finally created.

Pictures of the trip and further information can be found on:

THE MOST AMAZING CAMPSITE EVER! | Spitzkoppe, Namibia Roadtrip

We stayed at Spitzkoppe, possibly the coolest campsite in the world! There is no feeling like running up the Spitzkoppe rocks, watching the sun set behind the silhouette of an incredible landscape and staying warm by a campfire under the stars...

4X4 Hoarusib & Hoanib Rivers, Namibia, Ruffcut 172

This adventure continues our 4 Wheel drive in northwest Namibia. In this episode Ben and I are going to continue to show you how to explore Namibia independently.

Day 14 starts somewhere near the exclusively private Serra Cafema Resort that we dropped into yesterday unannounced.

We've broken camp and ready to plan the next leg. We're heading west towards the Skeleton Coast NP.

The leaking left rear tire has finally given up and gone flat.

I recognize this guy from Zyles Pass. It's one of Andrew Rogers' Men of Kaokoland.
A stone man welded with metal and a tip box for good luck.

Obviously this place is called Green Drum. Who brings a computer out here? You're supposed to self-register.

Microsoft XP, Ctrl Alt Delete Lets us the backup manual method.

So we have a very hostile environment, low fuel, one spare tire and government discouragement. So I think we should continue this expedition in the other direction.

Namibia is certainly a harsh mistress. It's all thorns. Can easily puncture a tire. Ben is trying to find his way into the Hoarusib River. Snake, lion & elephant country. We camp here tonight.

Ben finally gives up and we find a campsite next to the river.

Today, all the way down south, in and out of the park through the Khumib and into the Koigab river.

Day 15 starts next to the Hoarusib River.

Now the biggest one last. Yeah but we're almost back. Good thing we're in the middle of nowhere. Getting low on fuel and no reserve in the jerry cans.

Last night we plenty of ticks in the car. They're your buddies, not mine.

Ben hears a rattle and has to check it out.

Back out the 'door' of the Hoanib River. This time we turn North rather than south. And what a difference two weeks can make.

Time to find a place to camp. From the Khumib River, 60km down to the Hoanib River,
we took a little detour off the Hoanib to the north and it actually turned out to be much nicer.

Video Details

This adventure takes place in Namibia.

We're packing up to go. Ben has discovered that we have a diesel leak. He claims it's only a few drops. Time will tell.

Once we start driving, Ben smells diesel fuel. It turns out that the leak is a big issue. We head to town to have the car repaired.

Wildlife!

Ben likes to eat lunch and open spaces near the sand dunes.

He's quite organized when it comes to mealtimes. I like a little calcium shell. I don't have to take vitamins in the morning. That would be a six egg omelette?

Ben detailing the car.

He noticed some bird droppings on the car, so he wants to open up a detailing business on this spot it seems.

Time to get back on the main road and head to town. But before we reach Swakopmund, Ben discovers a playground for boys.

The route from here is either along the beach or on a paved road.

Swakopmund is a traditional German town displaced from Germany and located in the deserts of Namibia.

We spent the night in Swakopmund in order to have the fuel leak repaired the next day.

Hiking desert adventure

Hiking in Namibia's Desert (Brandberg) together with Bushmen

This Intro is just a short tidbit of my expedition to an isolated, 600 sqkm wide Brandberg Massif in the middle of the Namib desert, with 80 Million years the oldest desert in the world. We searched for a lost and unknown civilization and a leopard felt very lonely. Together with my friends Stefan Bee Two and the Damara Bushmen Jonny B Good and Collin !Uiseb we experienced an unique and untouched environment for a fortnight.

Namibia Adventure | 9 Days | 250 insta stories

We travelled across Namibia in 9 days - visiting Sesriem, Walvis bay, Spitzkoppe, Swakopmund, and Windhoek. All filmed on Instagram stories, so best viewed on your phone ;)

Day 1: Landed in Windhoek and drove through to Sesriem where we stayed over in Sesriem Campsite - NWR, so that we could gain access to Sossusvlei early the next morning. Arrived in Sesriem at 18:30, set up camp, and made a fire. The stars at this location were spectacular and were unknowingly at the time the last stars we would see on our trip as the clouds decided to show face every night after.

Day 2: Get up at 5:00, pack up tent, and drive into Sossusvlei. WOW. Sossusvlei is something you HAVE to see at least once in your life. The dunes are absolutely breathtaking. We spent the whole morning exploring the dunes and Deadvlei until the heat chased us back into the aircon car. Off to Namibs Valley - we spent night 2 on the side of a mountain in Solitaire, looking over the most spectacular view.

Day 3: Woke up to a beautiful view from the tent, the wind had stopped completely, and enjoyed a cup of coffee which had been made on the fire. After breakfast we packed up, explored the mountains of Namibs Valley and then headed to Walvis Bay.

Day 4: Drove through to see the seals at Cape Cross before heading to Spitzkoppe for the evening. We stayed at Spitzkoppe Tented Camp and spent the afternoon exploring the massive granite peaks.

Day 5-7: Beach time! We spent day 5 to 7 in the coastal city of Swakopmund. First night we camped at Alte Brücke Resort, which was a 3 minute walk to the beach. Had a drink at Tiger Reef before making some braaibroodjies for dinner. Yummy!
Night two and three in Swakopmund we stayed at Skeleton Beach Backpackers which was only a 2 min walk to the beach (800m).

Day 8-9: It was time to head back to Windhoek. The drive from Swakopmund to Windhoek was around 4 hours. We stayed in Windhoek on night 8 and I flew back to SA on day 9.
