Amazing Mystery Island, Vanuatu - What is on Mystery Island and Should I Get Off the Ship There?

We are once again at Mystery Island in the beautiful country of Vanuatu and were blessed with glorious weather which enabled us to get off the ship and explore the island.

In this video we take a walk around some of the things that you will find there, Ali gets a massage and Rob gets up close and personal with some of the marine life.

If you are wondering what there is to do on Mystery Island and whether to get off the ship or not then we hope this video helps you to decide if it's an island for you or not.

Mystery Island, Vanuatu - What is Mystery Island Like and What Can I Do There?

Have you ever wondered what the mystery is about Mystery Island or are you planning to visit Mystery Island on a cruise? In this video we show you what there is to do on this tiny uninhabited island in the South Pacific Ocean.

Mystery Island is part of Vanuatu and, although it is uninhabited, locals from the neighbouring 'big island' come over in their boats to ensure that you have more than enough to do to fill your day, and probably more.

Do NOT make the mistake of getting off the ship later just because no-one lives on the island and you think it will just be another day on the beach. There is more than enough to occupy you for the whole day.

We hope we will give you lots of ideas for things to do on this beautiful paradise in the middle of a huge ocean.

Mystery Island Vanuatu - A MUST SEE - 2023

We're cruising on the Carnival Luminosa to the South Pacific Islands. Our first port Lifou Island, part of the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia was amazing! We didn't think it could get any better, but it did! Mystery Island is a tiny tropical island - so small you can walk around the whole island in under an hour!

Make sure you take your snorkel gear or hire a set on the island. There are tours you can purchase onboard, or you can wait until you are on the island and select one for less than half the price. Remember though, if you buy an island tour and the tour doesn't get back in time the ship won't wait for you!

We took a refreshing swim in the beach, walked around the island then explored the middle where people were eating lobsters, getting their hair braided and drinking from coconuts!

Join us for our Mystery Island Tour. We hope you are enjoying our travel vlogs. To support our channel, please like and subscribe!

Local Tour on Mystery Island - Snorkeling with Local Guys Starfish Tours on Mystery Island

When choosing shore tours we are always mindful of the time we need to be back on the ship. There was no issue with time on this trip which is why we decided to look for a local tour on Mystery Island rather than a ship bought tour. This has the added benefit of all the money going directly to the Mystery Island locals.

Once on shore we came across local company, Starfish Tours who run snorkeling tours out to the reef. The price was good so off we went.

Find out what it was like in this video. The video is about the whole tour experience, not just a lot of underwater shots, but there are some in there for good measure.

Mystery Island Vanuatu (Carnival Cruise)

Mystery Island is ringed by a whole number of beautiful white sand beaches. Since it takes just half-an-hour to walk around the whole island, you can take your pick and find your ideal spot. Many passengers choose to stay close to the tender pier and the facilities; others disperse to find a more secluded place. There are lots of shady spots, under tall palm trees, perfect for a relaxing day. Snorkellers will be delighted by the pristine nature of the reefs offshore and it’s possible to see a whole variety of sea life, including barracudas, clown fish, parrot fish, turtles and even seahorses.

We always have fun filming new things for you guys and showing you places to go.

Snorkelling at Mystery Island, Vanuatu - Carnival Splendor Shore Day!

Mystery Island, Vanuatu, is a small island located in the south. The island is typically uninhabited, though residents of neighbouring Aneityum journey across on days that cruise ships visit.

Coconut-laden palm trees line white-sand beaches and pristine waters with a protected marine reserve where you’ll find turtles, fish, stingrays, and amazing coral.

There's also a range of activities and tours provided both by the Carnival Splendor and the locals.
There's paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, sunbaking, and snorkelling.
You can get a relaxing massage, get your hair braided, or try some fresh, local produce.
The beach markets have a range of souvenirs to purchase.

This was our first visit to Mystery Island. Although still only technically Vanuatu, we still plan to add it to our list of countries visited. Today was all about the snorkelling for us.
We were warned about a strong current around the Island, so we focused on finding a suitable snorkelling site. Our first spot was at the end of the runway. The coral here was amazing with plenty of fish. The current turned it into a crazy trip racing across the top of the coral. We tried to make ourselves as thin as we could as the threat of cutting ourselves on the coral was foremost in our minds. It didn't help that Annette only had one flipper (after one was broken the previous day).
The experience was both scary and exhilarating, so we did it twice.
After that, we tried several spots along the jetty side of the Island but they were not very good. Apparently, a cyclone earlier this year had damaged the coral on this side.
The last spot we tried was at the opposite end of the Island. The coral here was much better and the fish were abundant. However, the current made it very tiring to avoid being sucked out to sea.
We definitely plan to come back again and hopefully the current will not be as strong.

Thank you for watching.

The beautiful Mystery island with highlights of the modern village shore tour.

Welcome to Mystery Island, a small uninhabited islet located in the southern region of Vanuatu! This secluded paradise, also known as Inyeug, is surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and pristine white-sand beaches, making it a popular destination for tourists and cruise ships.

But why is it called Mystery Island, you may ask? According to local legends, the island used to be a sacred place where only the chiefs and their families were allowed to visit. It was believed that the spirits of their ancestors would protect them from harm and bring them good luck. However, after a devastating cyclone hit the area in 2004, the island was left abandoned and its secrets remain untold.

Today, visitors can explore the island's lush vegetation, coral reefs, and traditional thatched huts. There are also various activities available, such as snorkeling, kayaking, and beach volleyball. You can sample local cuisine and drinks, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax on the beach and soak up the sun.

Mystery Island is a unique and enchanting destination that will leave you with unforgettable memories. Come and discover its hidden treasures for yourself!

VANUATU, MYSTERY ISLAND

Mystery Island is a tiny, uninhabited islet in Vanuatu. Other than an airstrip, built by United States Military personnel to serve the nearby island of Aneityum, Mystery Island only has a few huts for overnighters, modern amenities for cruise passengers and some trails that bisect the island.
No one lives on the island as it is considered taboo to do so. The locals come across from nearby Aneityum on the days when our ships call into the island. The population of Aneityum is approximately 1,200.
This video includes the visit to Keamu village located on the main Island of Aneityum.

Quantum of the Seas Visit to Mystery Island Vanuatu

On our recent @RoyalCaribbean Quantum of the Seas cruise we spent Christmas day on Mystery Island.

The beautiful clear waters and stunning beaches made for a wonderful day of snorkelling and relaxing. But did you know there is an airstrip there too?

Ovation Of The Seas Day 5 | Mystery Island, Vanuatu

Welcome to day 5 on Ovation Of The Seas to the South Pacific (26th Feb 2020). Check out lunch in the Windjammer, the running track, the gym, The Big Music Game Show. We also celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary in the Main Dining Room.

We were having such a great time on the ship that we didn't get off to explore Mystery Island as we have been there before. If you are in to snorkelling this is a good place to do that and also discover the little market that the locals put on for Cruise lines.
