HI GUYS! I HAVE MADE IT SAFELY TO MY 194th COUNTRY -- VENEZUELA!! I purposely saved this country for the end because I knew that it would be incredible, and I wanted to dedicate a full 2 weeks to explore around the country.

In this first video, I document the experience (and my anxiety) of getting from Ecuador to Venezuela, and then I take you around Caracas on the very first day of the journey. I can already tell that this Venezuela series is going to be so epic and some of my best content yet!

A massive THANK YOU you to my buddy Emmanuel and his girlfriend, Valery, for taking me around Venezuela. They have an awesome YouTube channel ,and also organize trips out here, check them out on the link below!

Episode 1: Understanding Venezuela in 2023 - First Impressions of Caracas

From Madrid to Caracas in 10,5 hours. A trip that I wanted to do for so long. And it starts in the Capital of Venezuela - in Caracas.

In this video I am talking about my first impressions of the country and I will talk a bit about the recent history of Venezuela to make you understand where negative comments about the country might be coming from. I have heard it all. From It's not safe to It's impossible to travel in that country. But guess what: Nothing ever happened to me and I did travel through that country! Don't get me wrong. In general you should be careful in Latin American countries. Walking around with your brand new iPhone in your hand might not always be the best idea... But the big majority of the people are extremely kind, open-minded and curious about tourists and they will welcome you with the biggest smile ever!
Make sure to talk to locals, as they will be able to tell you where to go and what areas to avoid.

While this first video will talk a lot about how Venezuela works, its history and a few things that simply work differently in Venezuela, the next videos will be more about the culture and the country with its beautiful and unique nature. So, make sure to subscribe and follow me on Social Media to not miss out on the next episode!

Nobody Visits This Country Anymore ( Find Out Why ) ????????

???????? Venezuela, the name conjures images of a country synonymous with economic collapse and violence. But is that reputation deserved or is there another side to the country that the media don't show? Well, despite being nervous for my safety and that of my camera, I flew into Caracas on my own to investigate. Oh, and whilst there of course I had to visit the infamous Petare barrio, known as Venezuela's most dangerous hood. Would I survive? Join me and find out. Vamos a Caracas chamos!

Shout out to @BackpackerBen for accompanying me all the way from Cusco to Colombia and thanks to my chama Lucy for her help with the translations on the trip ????

After making 1,100+ videos in 194 countries, this is one of my favorite videos thus far! Find out what $10 USD can get you in Venezuela!

In this epic adventure, I take you on the bustling streets of Caracas and through the beautiful beach towns of Morrocoy to see how many things I could purchase with $10 USD, which at the time I made this video, was 14.7 MILLION Venezuelan Bolivares... Right now, $10 USD is equal to 22 million Bolivares, it's absolutely crazy.

Despite Venezuela's economic crisis and massive hyperinflation, the cost of everyday items is getting more expensive, which makes it even harder for the local people to afford basic things like bread and water. It's really sad, and I hope the situation gets better because Venezuelans are some of the warmest and most hospitable people I've ever met. More to come soon from Venezuela!

Is Venezuela Ready for Visitors?

After years of crisis and isolation, Venezuela is reconnecting to the world. More airlines are opening routes, the US dollar is widely accepted and some locals say the worst is over. Is Venezuela ready to welcome international tourists? And: is it safe?
DW's Joel Dullroy visited Venezuela in January 2022. He went to some of the most touristic spots of the country: from the Isla de Margarita to the town of Mérida and the national park of Morrocoy.

Hello to all my friends, family, and followers -- I have arrived safely in Yemen and I will be exploring deep into the country by myself and one local guide over the next week.

Yemen is (by far) the most difficult country in the world to visit in terms of logistics (getting a visa, planning, etc) and staying safe. I'm sure you are aware that since 2011, Yemen has been in a constant state of war. Tourists are not welcome here, and it's extremely risky for any traveler to visit at this moment -- especially as both an American and a journalist. I am double at risk.

That all being said, I am beyond excited to have this rare opportunity to take you inside one of the most hidden and raw cultures left on earth. My first 24 hours have already been one hell of an emotional ride (as you'll see in this video) -- and you will be hearing lots more over the coming week.

You won't want to miss this series, trust me!

A German evaluating the COLONIA TOVAR: Does it really deserve the title GERMAN VILLAGE OF VENEZUELA?

The video a lot of Venezuelans have been waiting for!
I checked out the German village of Venezuela. The Colonia Tovar is a German colony that has been founded in 1844 and as a German I of course had to visit this village to see how German this German Village of Venezuela really is!

I've seen photos of the Colonia Tovar before and therefore already knew to expect a very typical southern German architecture in the village. But building houses that look alike like the ones in the south of Germany is easy, isn't it?
Can a place so far away from Germany really resemble Germany after all those years? Does the food really taste like German food or is it just a nice try but not even close to real traditional German food?
Honestly I had my doubts that a small village in the mountains of Venezuela could seriously have something really German...

Check out the video to see how German the German village of Venezuela really is...!

Colonia Tovar: Venezuela's Little Germany Looks Like a Village in the Black Forest

Where can you find half-timbered houses, German beer, and Black Forest cake in South America? Colonia Tovar. DW's Joel Dullroy visited the Venezuelan tourist attraction, where he felt transported back to the heart of the Black Forest. The town has a population of roughly 20,000 people, and was founded by German immigrants around 150 years ago. Not much has changed there since then.

Just how good is Turkish? (12 hours in business class to CARACAS)

Join me on the 12-hour long-haul from Istanbul to Caracas with Turkish Airlines in business class (plus a peek at the 3 hour hope from Stockholm to Istanbul as well). This is my first long-haul with Turkish and my first time on their 787 Dreamliner. I already know I don't love IST as a connection point, but I'm undecided on Turkish Airlines itself – is it as good as the hype suggests, or is there room for improvement? During this flight I found myself comparing TK to Qatar Airways quite often. Watch the video to find out who does it better! Also, stick around to the end to learn more about entry requirements to Venezuela and how it's a lot more simple than it's made out to be online (and info is hard to come by!)

Flight information:
January 21, 2024 | TK223
Boeing 787-9 TC-LLH [age: 4 years]
Flight time: 11h40m

How I booked it:
This was a simple paid roundtrip business class fare ARN-CCS-ARN. It cost $2,800.

Driving This Up The Venezuelan Andes PT 1 ????????

The jump-off point is Merida, a city nestled between the Andes at some 1700 meters. We rented a huge 4x4 and drove it up as far as we could into the Andes. We helped some locals along the way and even visited a small farm along the way to see how life is living on top of the Andes. Join me on this 4 pt series as I make my way up to the highest point in Venezuela, el Pico Bolivar.

Episode 3: Delicious Venezuela - The Taste of Venezuela

Something that I love the most about traveling is trying all the different kinds of food that do not exist in my own country. I am from Germany and the food there is nothing at all like the food in Venezuela. Since I live in Spain since a few years now, I have tried Venezuelan food in Spain already and therefore knew more or less what to expect.
I loved everything that I have tried in Spain. Nevertheless Venezuelans kept telling me that there food in Venezuela tastes even better in Venezuela. And I was always thinking: this is already delicious. How is it possible that it can get even better?

Spoiler alert: It can get even better!

Let me show you how special and delicious is the food of Venezuela! Let me teach you what is a Cachapa, Tequeños, Arepa, Golfeado, Pabellón and why a Venezuelan Burger is not at all like the Burgers we all know.

Be prepared to get hungry with this video!
One tip: If you live in a big city or close to it, there might be a Venezuelan supermarket or restaurant nearby. Make sure to google this and if you find one try it out!

In the next video I will show you a bit of the Caribbean paradise that Venezuela has to offer. So make sure to subscribe to this video to not miss out on anything!

* Subtitles in Spanish and German are available.

The truth is, I really enjoy getting haircuts in foreign countries because when else do you get the chance to spend 30 minutes with a complete stranger in their country? It's always a fun cultural experience and I have some wonderful memories getting haircuts around the world -- from St. Lucia to Zambia to Syria to Afghanistan and now here in Venezuela.
