Chile (South-America) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 17.723 Hotels in Chile - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Chile.
Chile was given its name by the Incas who respectfully called it Chili, ‘the country in the south’. Santiago De Chile, the capital of Chile, is dignified, modest and European-looking and also lively, modern and full of Latin temperament. The Plaza De Armas is the heart of the city and the historic centre of colonial Santiago that contains the city’s most important buildings. The city of Valparaiso or, Paradise Valley, is around a hundred and twenty kilometres from the capital of Santiago De Chile on the Pacific coast. The city’s development was closely connected with its harbour which brought it wealth and power. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, escalators have rattled up and down the steep hills of the harbour city with forty five hills flanking the bay, each of them covered with a number of tiny wooden huts. Only a short journey on a gravel road and the Atacama Desert begins. At its centre it is the driest desert in the world where the forces of nature have turned it into an extraordinary landscape. The Atacama extends between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordilleras, an area of stone and sand that is perforated only by various frequently dried out salt lakes. For those ships that sailed around Cape Horn, Ancud represented a safe harbour on the journey north in which they could rest after sailing the stormy waters of the South Pacific. At a time when whales and seals were hunted in the Antarctic, Ancud served as a supply station along the route to the southern Polar sea. From the Atacama Desert in the north to as far as the stormy Tierra Del Fuego in the south, Chile is a country rich in contrast. Volcanoes, arid deserts, salt lakes, lively geysers, sandstone mountains and a cosmopolitan city. All of this is to be found in Chile, a country at the end of the world!

We spent 5 days in the ATACAMA DESERT IN CHILE ???????? (Chile Travel Guide)

Enjoy this 4K travel vlog from the Atacama Desert in Chile! We spent 5 days in San Pedro de Atacama, the driest and darkest place on earth. The landscape in Chile was truly stunning and we had so much fun on our day trips through the Atacama Desert and the Altiplano (high plateau). Being on more than 4,000 meters elevation was challenging and the cold temperatures during the Chilean winter were extreme!

We booked our tours with Layana Travel in San Pedro de Atacama and were very happy with them!

Cycling Patagonia - An Autumn Adventure // A Documentary

Our two month journey through Patagonia proved to be one of our greatest experiences yet, and an incredible conclusion to 11 months and 12,760 km cycling in South America.

From late-March to mid-May 2023, we rode 2,500 km through the breathtaking Patagonian wilderness, and essentially had the whole place to ourselves. For us, cycling Patagonia at the beginning of the low-season was therefore one of the best decisions we've ever made, and we were even surprised by the beauty of the spectacular autumn (fall) colors.

Backpacking South America : Northern Chile

Series 2: Lake Titicaca to Buenos Aires - Episode 3: Northern Chile - Arica, Iquique, San Pedro De Atacama, and La Serena
After spending almost a month in Peru, Sara and I crossed the border into Chile. We spent 10 days traveling from the northern tip to the capital, Santiago. Our trip took us to the beaches of Arica, the Georgian-style buildings of Iquique, the desert town San Pedro De Atacama, and the once pirate infested La Serena. It was a fantastic 10 days.

Traveling through Chile & Peru

So, I have now been back in England for a month and it has pretty much taken me this long to actually sort out all of my travel photography from Chile and Peru. It was without doubt the craziest adventure that I have had so far and met some really incredible characters that I know I will see again. Both Chile and Peru are such diverse countries that there was always something to photograph. People, landscapes, backs of buses and LOTS of dogs!!! My whole reason of venturing across the Atlantic was to try my best to see the stars. I had been told that Chile was incredible for travel photography and the best places to see the distant galaxies in the world! I was not disappointed! The quality of the skies throughout most of South America were unbelievable and I constantly had to pinch myself to remember exactly where I was. Usually, on any trip I have ventured out on, I have always booked very little in advance and very much played it by ear as to where I wanted to go and what I wanted to see. As I only had 5 weeks exactly this time around, I knew I was going to have be sensible and pre-book a lot of my travel so I knew that I would be able to cover everything that I wanted to see. There is a great company in Chile called Pachamama (Mother earth) by bus, who offered a great service that can take you all around the country, stopping at amazing places off the beaten tourist track and showcasing some of Chile’s most beautiful assets. It became apparent very early on that everyone else I was meeting travelling through the country hadn’t seen half as much as I had, so I knew it had been a great idea to travel around this way instead of an endless run of 20+ hour buses that barely stop for toilet breaks let alone to see something interesting.

Peru on the other hand was all about getting to Machu Pichu, and the ‘getting there’ was the whole story! With my camera bag on my back, we spent 5 days trekking across the Andes and into the jungle with Bamba Experience covering 60 km and walking to over 4,600 m. It was truly one of the most difficult and demanding things I have ever done but definitely one of the most rewarding. It was the first time I have ever really taken travel photography seriously when on a trip, but sadly, I think I’m going to be destined to travel with a huge back full of equipment for the rest of my adventures!
