My Quest to Find the Lost Ark of the Covenant

This epic adventure in Ethiopia was one of my favorites of all time!!

This mountainous landscape is riddled with mystery and frozen in time. I had seen photos of the rock churches many times, everywhere from National Geographic to Lonely Planet and yet it still took my breath away the first time I saw them for myself. If there was ever to be an 8th wonder of the world, St. George’s monolithic cross shaped church would surely deserve to win the prize!

Special thanks to Cory for shooting the incredible cinematic footage in this video! Check out more of his work here:

Graham Hancock is the author of The Sign and the Seal, Fingerprints of the Gods, Keeper of Genesis, Heaven's Mirror, Supernatural and most recently Magicians of the Gods. His books have been translated into twenty-seven languages and have sold over five million copie worldwide. His public lectures and broadcasts, including two major TV series for Channel 4, Quest for the Lost Civilisation, and Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age, have further established his reputation as an unconventional thinker who raises controversial questions about humanity's past. On day 1 Graham discussed the global cataclysm at the end of the last Ice Age around 12,500 years ago and argued that our civilization, too, despite its technological prowess, might be poised on the brink of becoming the next Atlantis.

There are stories and people in the Bible that are easy to take for granted. The question is, do these narratives describe real events or are they (as the critics claim) merely legends? The Chapel of the Ascension is a shrine located on the Mount of Olives, in the At-Tur district of Jerusalem. Part of a larger complex consisting first of a Christian church and monastery, then an Islamic mosque, it is located on a site the faithful traditionally believed to be the earthly spot where Jesus ascended into Heaven after His Resurrection. It houses a slab of stone believed to contain one of His footprints. The Status Quo, a 250-year-old understanding between religious communities, applies to the site.
Origin and traditions
Shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus, early Christians began gathering in secret to commemorate His Ascension at a small cave on the Mount of Olives. The issuance of the Edict of Milan by the Roman Emperor Constantine I in 313 made it possible for Christians to worship overtly without fear of government persecution. By the time of the pilgrim Egeria's travels to Jerusalem in 384, the spot of veneration had been moved to the present location, uphill from the cave,[3] which had been integrated into the Constantinian Church of Eleona, dedicated by then just to Jesus' teachings about good and evil (Matthew 24:1-26:2). Egeria witnessed the celebration of the Ascension at an open hillock near the cave. The first church was erected there a few years later, sometime before 392, by a lady from the imperial family, Poimenia. Later a legend attributed the church to Saint Helena, mother of Constantine I.

4th-century church
The first complex constructed on the site of the present chapel was known as Imbomon (Greek for on the hill). It was a rotunda, open to the sky, surrounded by circular porticoes and arches. Sometime between AD 384-390, Poimenia, a wealthy and pious Roman aristocratic woman of the imperial family financed the building of a Byzantine-style church around Christ's last footprints.

7th-century church
It was subsequently rebuilt in the late 7th century. The Frankish bishop and pilgrim Arculf, in relating his pilgrimage to Jerusalem in about the year 680, described this church as a round building open to the sky, with three porticoes entered from the south. Eight lamps shone brightly at night through windows facing Jerusalem. Inside was a central edicule containing the footprints of Christ, plainly and clearly impressed in the dust, inside a railing.

12th-century church
The reconstructed church was eventually destroyed and rebuilt a second time by the Crusaders in the 12th-century. This final church was eventually destroyed by the armies of Salah ad-Din, leaving only a partially intact outer 12x12 meter octagonal wall surrounding an inner 3x3 meter shrine, also octagonal, called a martyrium or edicule. This structure still stands today,[7] in a form partially altered in the time after Saladin's 1187 conquest of Jerusalem.

Edicule (chapel)
The main structure of the chapel is from the Crusader era; the stone dome and the octagonal drum it stands on are Muslim additions. The exterior walls are decorated with arches and marble columns. The entrance is from the west, the interior of the chapel consists of a mihrab indicating the direction of Mecca in the south wall. On the floor, inside a stone frame, is a slab of stone called the Ascension Rock.

Ascension rock
The octagonal ædicule surrounds the Ascension rock, said to contain the right footprint of Christ, the section bearing the left footprint having been taken to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Middle Ages. The faithful believe that the impression was made as Jesus ascended into Heaven and is venerated as the last point on earth touched by the incarnate Christ.

Must See New Evidence that Proves the Temple was on the Temple Mount Over the Dome of the Rock!

This video provides the most comprehensive and complete evidence that proves the original temple of Solomon, and the rebuilt temples of Zerubbabel and Herod the Great, were located on the Temple Mount, exactly where the Dome of the Rock is today. Today, some are promoting the theory that the Temple was in the City of David and that the Temple Mount was a Roman Fort. We will answer each of their arguments with facts, the Bible, archeology, and eyewitness accounts.

Give yourself time to learn about all the things in life that you like and especially the stuff you don’t like. It’s never too late to change your mind and pivot your course. If you don’t know what you want to do, try as many things as humanly possible. Work jobs you hate so you’re motivated to find something you love. If you want to do something that doesn’t require a degree, skip it and get to work. Get as uncomfortable and close to the action as you can and get your hands dirty.

And if your passion requires college, then by all means go to college! Just make sure that your college admission is a carefully weighed decision and not a reflexive action that you take simply because you don’t know what else to do with yourself. You may find that an online university accomplishes what you need just as well for a fraction of the cost. Or you may find that a trade school or other form of education provides you with the knowledge you need to succeed in life. There is no one defined path that is a guarantee of success, so never be afraid to build a path that works best for you.

10 Tourist Destinations You Must Avoid at Any Cost

I absolutely LOVE traveling to lesser known areas of popular countries rather than the major hotspots!

If these countries I mentioned in this video are on your bucket list, I have a challenge for you. Before booking a ticket to the capital city, do some deeper research about the country you’re traveling to. Find off the beaten path destinations that you could visit in these places. Tourism is never going to stop so it might as well be better distributed across countries rather than a dense concentration of tourists in very specific areas. Some places are definitely touristy for good reasons but there’s so much more to the world than the Top 10 tourist attractions!

Inside the Martian Colony We Made on Earth (ft. Yes Theory)

Get a free preview of my upcoming book:

In the midst of climate change, humans have started to realize the profoundly negative effects we have had on our planet. Especially during a year like 2020, the concept of moving to another planet may seem more and more enticing.
What if we could attempt to recreate Earth and test if we understand it enough to survive without it, potentially on another planet? This was the exact idea that sparked the creation of Biosphere 2, with Earth itself being the original Biosphere. This experiment was thought up in the 1980’s when the conversation about space travel was becoming more than just science fiction. A group of eccentric innovators using advanced technology recreated key ecosystems in this artificial habitat. In 1991, 8 people were sealed into this man made atmosphere for a 2 year experiment to test if space colonization was possible using this method.
After traveling to every country in the world, I’ve been asking countless times if I would travel to space if given the opportunity, my answer is usually no because I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of how much there is to discover on Earth. But, when Thomas and Ammar from Yes Theory asked if I wanted to join them on an exclusive mission to Biosphere 2 in Arizona, of course my answer was yes. In preparation for this trip we all visited a clinic to get tested for covid 19 and confirm that we are all healthy enough to travel domestically. After receiving negative covid results, we headed to the airport to fly from Los Angeles to Tucson, Arizona. I didn’t research much about this place ahead of time because I wanted to be completely surprised by what we found there.
Biosphere 2 may have been intended to teach us about our potential life as a mars colony, but it ended up teaching us a lot about humanity. We often see ourselves as a separate part of our ecosystem, almost as if we’re not dependent on the earth for our survival. The original bioshperians learned that not only are we dependent on the earth, we actually understand very little about how it functions. Since we won’t be colonizing mars any time soon, we need to take care of our planet. Biosphere 2 has faced a lot of criticism because in the end, the 2 year experiment didn’t work. The biospherians needed help from the outside to complete their mission. Thankfully, scientific progress has always been built on failure. And thanks to the University of Arizona, Biosphere 2 is currently the largest Earth science experiment in the world and is still actively conducting research on how we can live in greater harmony with our environment.
