My Ecuador Trip- Quito Old Town, Equator and the Simple Life in a Small Village

Tara goes to South America for the first time and experiences some strange things on the equator! She also visits her cousin living in a tiny village, Cazarpamba. Tara learns how to milk a cow, feed animals on a farm, pick plants and fruit, and visits the village school to give the kids some gifts. Four days without a phone, internet, car, TV and hot water! It was an amazing experience!

Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on La Sierra in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.

Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.

Things to do in Ecuador covered in this video:
01) 00:36 - Otavalo market in Otavalo
02) 01:00 - Hike the Cuicocha lake
03) 01:25 - Middle of the World, Mitad del Mundo & Quitsato in Cayambe
04) 01:48 - Quito, capital & UNESCO World Heritage
05) 02:08 - Termas de Papallacta (hot springs)
06) 02:24 - Cayambe Coca National Park
07) 02:45 - Quilotoa & Shalala viewpoint
08) 03:13 - Tren Crucero & Nariz del Diablo (Devil's nose)
09) 03:47 - Inka ruins in Ingapirca
10) 04:04 - Cuenca & it's beautiful old town

Quito (Ecuador) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Quito in Ecuador.
In Quito, Ecuador, La Basilica is situated on one of the city’s northern hills and is one of Quito’s earliest religious buildings. Its construction began in 1892 and, a hundred years later, it was consecrated by the Pope. The tradition of mediaeval glass painting was used for the basilica’s large colourful windows. The building is an architectural symbol of an autocratic Catholic church which dominated the country until the Liberal Revolution of 1925. Quirto’s historic centre was built on the ruins of an Inca city and on the 6th December, 1536, Quito became re-established. When Spanish conquistador, Sebastian De Benalcazar, invaded, the Incas destroyed their settlement. Thus everything had to be re-built. The Plaza Grande, the heart of the old town, originated at that time and it was in this square that the county’s history unfolded from its foundation right up until its Independence. The former capital of the northern Inca realm became the most Spanish city of the New World and today, churches, monasteries and squares continue to gleam in their colonial splendour. The remarkable legacy of a rich and dramatic past!

Ecuador Travel Video: Otavalo

Find more here:

Otavalo, capital of Otavalo Canton, has a population largely made up of the Otavalo indigenous group. It is located in Imbabura Province of Ecuador. It is surrounded by the peaks of Imbabura (4,630 metres (15,190 ft)), Cotacachi (4,995 metres (16,388 ft)), and Mojanda volcanoes.

The indigenous Otavalo people are famous for weaving textiles, usually made of wool, which are sold at the famous Saturday market. Although the largest market is on Saturday, there is a very wide range of wares available throughout the week in the Plaza de los Ponchos, and the many local shops. The shops sell textiles such as handmade blankets, tablecloths, and much more.

During the market's peak, almost one third of the town becomes full of stalls selling textiles, tagua nut jewelry, musical instruments, dream catchers, leather goods, fake shrunken heads, indigenous costumes, hand-painted platters and trays, purses, clothing, spices, raw foods and spools of wool.

As Otavalo is famous for its textiles, many of the nearby villages and towns are famous for their own particular crafts. Cotacachi, for example, is the center of Ecuador's leather industry. In San Antonio, where the local specialty is wood carving, the main street prominently displays carved statues, picture frames, and furniture.

15 Best Things To Do In Guayaquil Ecuador

Many people have told us to skip Guayaquil. We read many opinions that there's not much to do here and it's not worth visiting. So we decided to settle into Ecuador's largest city to investigate.

We were pleasantly surprised to find so many awesome things to do in Guayaquil! Best things to do in Guayaquil Ecuador: We loved the stroll the Malecon 2000, the ride La Perla Ferris Wheel, climbing Cerro Santa Ana and Las Peñas, taking the pirate ship for a cruise on the River Guayas, cycling across Santay Island, eating congrejo criollo, and so much more!

So we wanted to make a video and write a blog post to show other travels that it can be worth a visit. So this video highlights what we found to the best things to do in Guayaquil. You can find all the details and directions on our associated article:

If you would like to move to Salinas, live in Salinas or retire in Salinas Ecuador, this video is for you. It has one of the best Ecuador retirement communities.

Salinas is one of the most popular of all of Ecuador’s beaches. Many locals flock here on the weekends and during high season for fun in the sun; however, weekdays and off-season can be fairly quiet.

Surfing, paddleboards, jet skis, and kayaks are all here for an ocean adventure. Skydiving and hang gliding expeditions are available for those wanting some air time. You can also book a day of deep-sea fishing or a cruise on a private yacht for a more relaxed excursion.

Salinas is one of the best places to retire in Ecuador. And the video, Living and Retiring in Salinas, Ecuador is now available on Amazon Prime.

What is the equator? What's it like to stand on the Equator? This is my adventure to La Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador! I found two equators! But which is the real one? And what's it like balancing an egg on the equator?

The first part of the video is La Mitad del Mundo, the old Equator line that two scientists incorrectly marked. The second part of the video is The Intiñan Museum, the correct and modern GPS marking of the actual equator.

There are a lot of cool things about the equator in Ecuador. The weather is strange and the sun is close! You weigh less on the equator and the Earth moves faster because you're on the diameter.

I incorrectly pronounced Intiñan in the video, just to clarify. It's an amazing museum, I liked it better than La Mitad del Mundo!

The World in One Minute: Old Town in Quito, Ecuador

Today I bounced around what's called the Old Town. It's the historical center of Ecuador -- some say the best-preserved historic center in all of Latin America. Saw a lot of churches (shocker!) and the beginning rumblings of the New Years celebration. Oh. Yeah. To see behind-the-scenes extras from Quito, visit:

Which is The Real Equator Line Mitad Del Mundo? | Quito Ecuador Travel Vlog

#Mitad Del Mundo #TheMiddleoftheWorld #Quito #Ecuador

This vlog will show you which is The Real Equator Line Mitad Del Mundo? | Quito Ecuador Travel Vlog
It’s been raining and we are just going to chance it and drive to the Middle of the World. It rained the entire ride there. A 30-minute drive, we arrived at THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD. There was no one there. We purchased tickets and entered. It was so cool being in the middle of the world. This monument is actually a museum, and they built it in the 1980s. It’s said that this equator is slightly off. The grounds are beautiful and the views are gorgeous. There is another museum, and the equator is supposed to be the real equator, and that’s where we are going to visit next, the Museo Intinan. The walk was less than 10 minutes. We entered thru the back end of the museum. At first, we didn’t know, and it felt like we were sneaking in. There are several activities that are done on the equator and wow that was so much fun. This museum differs from the Middle of the World Museum. The Museo Intinan was so much fun and interactive.

Our next stop is THE PLAZA GRANDE. We are so looking forward to exploring here because it is so historic and so many coffee shops and restaurants in the middle of the square. Oh, no, it started raining. It usually rains in Quito for about 15 to 20 minutes and stops. Hopefully, it will stop soon so we can enjoy the Plaza. The rain finally stopped raining, and we continued exploring. It was so much fun visiting the plaza grande, the churches, and walking around in the area.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

► WHO WE ARE?

We are Gladys and Kenny, from Long Island, NY. We've always had a passion for traveling. We finally made our dreams a reality. In January 2018 we downsized and take the necessary steps to pursue our dream, to travel full time for as long as we can. We rented our house, moved into our attached studio apartment, and continued to travel on a part-time basis until it prepared us for full-time travel. On June 30, 2019, we left to travel the world full-time. The first stop was Bali, Indonesia. It wasn't a simple decision to leave our friends and family. However, you only live once and we didn't want to live with any regrets. We want to document our journey, so we recently did so with vlogs on YouTube and Social Media.
Join us. It's been one crazy ride so far.

FINDING the REAL Equator in Quito, Ecuador ???????? | With Guided Tour

In the latest episode of #WiththeWind we continue with part 2 of exploring the #Equator in #Equador. The first video began with a quick exploration at the once known only marked location of the line running through Ecuador.

Today, the true equator sits a short distance away. Because of technologies like the GPS, mappers were able to double check the accuracy of the location and found out where the true equator lays, the land is a little uneven and not suitable for a very big park. The park symbolizes the exploration and finding the Equator. After you visit the famous Mitad del Mundo, make sure you make your way to the actual museum marking the equator. You will not want to miss the Equator experiments and history that lies within Ecuador.

Check out the video and let us know what you thought!

Best Hostel in Quito - Ecuador, Hump Day Hostel

Located around the corner from the popular La Ronda Neighborhood in the Historic Center of Quito, Hump Day Hostel offers modern accommodations in a renovated historic building. This is not the most inexpensive option in the city but the location may be worth the difference in price. Each dorm bed comes with its own electrical outlets, reading lights, as well as personal lockers and privacy screens. There is an on-site bar, a fully equipped, shared kitchen, an outdoor roof terrace, and a concierge. Free breakfast just might seal the deal.
