#Muttrah #Corniche #Oman #Tourism كورنيش مطرح

Mutrah Corniche, Muscat Oman is in Mutrah Town. It was oldest port in Sultanate of Oman and was the Main seaport of Oman till few Years ago. The port is now converted to a dedicated Cruise terminal.

Being only few meters from the Cruise terminal, Mutrah Corniche is the prime Tourist Destination in Muscat. Curved waterside area offering paved paths & artful shelters, plus views of the water & mountains.

Mutrah stretches along an attractive corniche of latticed buildings and mosques; it looks spectacular at sunset when the light casts shadows across the serrated crescent of mountains, while pavements, lights and fountains invite an evening stroll or a bike ride.

At the northern end of the Cornish there is a fish market and the dhow harbour, where the dhows anchor to unload the catches of the day. It is a busy place with all fishing dhows returning for business. Next to the fish market is the fruits and vegetable market,

Mutrah Fort Muscat || Mutrah Fort Muscat Oman (English subtitles)

Mutrah Fort

Muscat’s ancient city defences
Rising out of the rock on which it’s built, the Mutrah Fort cuts an imposing figure looming over the harbour. If you’ve got an eye for a view be sure to scale the steps that wind up the side of the cliff edge. At the top you’re rewarded with stunning vistas of the surrounding harbour and the Gulf of Oman.

Our Hop-n, Hop-off Muscat Bus Tour will drop you off at the bottom of the hill, and from here you can begin your climb to the top. Walk back down and stroll along the harbour for top photo opportunities of the fort towering on its rocky seat.

A brief history lesson

Built by the Portuguese during their occupation of the 1580s, Mutrah Fort was a sturdy defensive measure against attack from the rampaging Ottoman army. It’s one of a number of forts they built here, along with Al Jalali, Khasab and Mirani.

Other interesting facts about the Mutrah Fort, Muscat

Mutrah Fort is twinned with the Al Jalali Fort, which sits in Muscat harbour a few miles to the south
The fort is still used for military purposes, so visitors are rarely allowed in, although there are great views from its flanks
The centre of Muscat is 13 kilometres (8 miles) away as the crow flies.
The Mutrah Fort overlooks and protects one of the largest sea ports in Oman.

$20 Market Hunt at Mutrah Souq Oman ????????

It is time for a market hunt! We first head over to the Mutrah Corniche right at sunset. Upon arrival, we got on a Mcdonald's colored multi seat bicycle that we cruised along the coastline for 30 minutes. After the cruise, we headed towards the souks and tried out some delicious smoothies.

@Mabelleofficial and I then headed inside the souks to do some bargain hunting. We were going to find some soaps and then ended up buying a jersey and some traditional Omani clothing.

Omani STREET FOOD TOUR of MUTRAH SOUQ | Muscat, Oman

????OMAN TRAVELS:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

My adventures in beautiful Muscat, Oman continued with an Omani street food tour of the Mutrah Souq. Let’s head out and explore it!

Mutrah Souq is a traditional Arab market under wooden timber roofing. You can buy clothing, souvenirs, home goods, street food, and much more there!

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

It’s right by the Mutrah Cornich, which is an oceanside boardwalk. Inside the souq are tons of shops. Immediately, we found Al-Raha Fast Food, where they were selling Indian snacks like samosas and pakoras.

Further on were vendors selling spices and incense, as well as a coffee shop (Abna Haji Bin Beri Trad. Coffee) selling rose milk. My guides Ahmed and Hussain said it’s their favorite place to buy it. They only cost us about $0.40 each!

The rose milk was creamy, frothy, and cold. They also gave us some crispy veg samosas. I liked the potatoes and onions inside.

Next, we saw shops selling jewelry, lamps, chess boards, magnets, knives, and more. At Saffron Leading Village, they sold Indian and Iranian spices, including turmeric, black pepper and saffron.

They sell 3 different varieties of saffron. It’s the most expensive spice in the world! In another shop, we saw some oil lamps like the ones from Aladdin, a sword, and more. I got 3 pairs of earrings for my daughters for about $16 USD.

The guy showed me some anime drawings his daughter did. They were really good.

The Mutrah Souq reminded me a lot of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Then, at Mohammed Ridha Bin Khamis Bin Ali Al-Lawati Trad. Shoes, I got me some Marc Comfort Omani-style sandals for about $25 USD!

At the next shop, we found some traditional hats called kummas. I tried a few on and went with a blue-and-white one. Then, I got a traditional white dishdasha, which extends to your ankles, and a head turban called a massar.

Ahmed tied a couple of different massars around head while I was wearing the hat. I went with two kummas, two massars, and the dishdasha, for $50 USD. He gave me a small deal!

From there, we continued through the souq. A lot of the items we saw were imported from India and Iran. Then, we stopped at a spot making beef shawarma with cabbage, hot sauce, and tahini.

The cabbage was nice and crunchy, and the beef really tender. The toasted pita was almost paper thin! I loved the juices from the meat mixing with the hot sauce! It was a great deal for under $1 USD.

Finally, we exited the souq and headed to a nearby spot to get some chicken shawarma! The cook mixed it with cabbage and tahini. We had some chilies and hot sauce on the side.

The chicken shawarma was meatier than the beef one, and fattier as well. It was tastier and had more sauce, too. It cost us $4 USD for four.

Then, we stopped at a 70-year-oldcoffee shop that sells samosas, small sandwiches, and more. I saw them grilling some thin chapatis. We tried some small veg samosas. Then, we watched them make some sandwiches using the chapatis.

They added cream cheese, chips, and hot sauce to the chapati. Of course, we added hot sauce. It reminded me of the rolled sandwiches I ate in Lebanon.

The hot sauce reminded me of tabasco. I loved the contrast between the flaky parotta, the crispy chips, and the velvety sour cream!

Finally, we finished with some karak tea. It was frothy and contained lots of milk and cardamom. I loved it!

Muscat, Oman - Mutrah Souq (2020)

Muscat (Arabic: مَسْقَط‎, Masqaṭ pronounced [ˈmasqatˤ]) is the capital and largest city of Oman. It is the seat of the Governorate of Muscat. According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total population of Muscat Governorate reached 1.4 million as of September 2018. The metropolitan area spans approximately 3,500 km2 (1,400 sq mi) and includes six provinces called wilayats.[citation needed] Known since the early 1st century CE as an important trading port between the west and the east, Muscat was ruled by various indigenous tribes as well as foreign powers such as the Persians, the Portuguese Empire, the Iberian Union and the Ottoman Empire at various points in its history. A regional military power in the 18th century, Muscat's influence extended as far as East Africa and Zanzibar. As an important port-town in the Gulf of Oman, Muscat attracted foreign tradesmen and settlers such as the Persians and the Balochis. Since the ascension of Qaboos bin Said as Sultan of Oman in 1970, Muscat has experienced rapid infrastructural development that has led to the growth of a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society. Muscat is termed as a Global City.

The rocky Western Al Hajar Mountains dominate the landscape of Muscat. The city lies on the Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Oman and is in the proximity of the strategic Straits of Hormuz. Low-lying white buildings typify most of Muscat's urban landscape, while the port-district of Muttrah, with its corniche and harbour, form the north-eastern periphery of the city. Muscat's economy is dominated by trade, petroleum, liquified natural gas and porting.

Mutrah Corniche (Muscat, Oman) 4K Walking Tour 60fps

Muttrah in Oman might be known for its traditional market souq, but you shouldn't miss the chance to take a walk on the corniche as well if you visit. Especially in the cooler seasons, the Muttrah corniche makes for a relaxing walk. With the Gulf of Oman on one side and the scenery changing from old, traditional buildings to flowery landscapes on the other, a stroll here can turn into a kind of meditation.

This video starts from the Muttrah fish market (if you come at the right time, you'll see fishermen coming from the ocean offloading their catch for the day) and ends at the Al-Riyam park roundabout.

This walking tour was filmed on December 8, 2023.
