But is it actually worth the $1500 price tag to go trekking through the dense rainforest around the Volcanoes National Park, in search of habituated gorillas?

Well, you're about to find out!

Magic Safaris - Gorilla Trekking (Volcanoes National Park - Rwanda)

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park. One of the best place to see the Mountain Gorillas. Gorilla family with playing juvenile gorillas!

rwanda vlog part 1 | gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park ????

In this weeks episode we begin our journeys in the country of Rwanda. We were able to discover the capital of Kigali (fun fact: it is located in the exact center of the country) and than travel two and a half hours to begin our time near the Volcanoes National Park located in the northwestern part of Rwanda. This part of our trip was truly a once in a lifetime experience that we all will cherish forever. Gorilla Trekking through the Volcanoes National Park was amazing, climbing up almost 1,500 feet to see these mountain gorillas (play-fighting with one another) and the rare silverback gorilla.

At the beginning of our stay in Rwanda our family visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The Genocide Memorial is a place of both remembrance and learning which is dedicated to the victims of genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Out of respect for the lives loss, I did not film this part of the trip.

We were also able to visit Handspun Hope which is an organization that provides support to local communities in Rwanda through job creation, community building, and spiritual counsel. Being able to see how these women have found a passion in the process of creating organic yarn was amazing to witness. Check out Handspun Hope's website here to learn more about it:

Lastly, we visited The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund where we learned about Dian Fossey and her impact on the population of mountain and silverback gorillas in the Rwandan rainforests. Check out their website here to learn more about it:

I hope you enjoy the video & stay tuned for our next adventure, it might be sooner than you think ;)

How Rwanda is Expanding its Volcanoes National Park and Mountain Gorillas Habitat

Rwanda is embarking on an ambitious expansion project of Volcanoes National Park to ensure a bright future for the mountain gorillas that call it home. This once in a generation initiative will expand the park by approximately 23%, increasing its size by 37.4 square kilometres (3,740 hectares). The expansion of Volcanoes National Park will improve the lives of the communities living around the park and make visiting the gorillas an even more life-changing experience.

Gorilla trekking rules and Regulations (do's and don'ts) with the mountain gorillas on gorilla tour

What to do and not to do during your gorilla trekking safari tour?

Mountain gorilla trekking is one of the best wildlife rewarding encounters you will ever have in your life time.

On Encounter with The Mountain Gorilla.
Always keeping a reasonable distance away from the mountain gorillas at least 7 meters.
b) Not using flash photography while taking photos of the mountain gorillas as it may irritate them.
c) Minimizing noise until you are at least about 200 meters from the gorillas.

d) A maximum number of 8 visitors may visit a group of habituated gorillas in a day, to minimize behavioral disturbances to the gorilla and the risk of their exposure to human bone diseases.
e) Avoid eating in the presence of the mountain gorillas.
f) Do not touch the mountain gorillas. When they come towards your way, just remain where you are and avoid a direct eye contact with the gorillas.
g) Do not imitate the mountain gorilla behavior like beating the chest because it might send the wrong message to the mountain gorillas.
h) You should not go gorilla trekking if you have Covid-19, diahoea, flu or a cold. Gorillas have no immunity to most human diseases and even mild human infections can be lethal to a gorilla. The Covid-19 pandemic has made us even more aware of the risk we pose to them. You are obliged to inform the authorities if you are sick and they will decide if you are well enough to visit the gorillas. Remember that the lives of the endangered gorillas are more important than your holiday.
i) If you need to sneeze or cough, cover your nose and mouth to reduce the chance of spreading infection.
j) Don’t spit or leave litter in the forest. Gorillas can catch diseases from human rubbish.
k) Gorillas can be quite curious. Do not touch the gorillas, even if they come close to you.
Tourists are allowed to be in the presence of the mountain gorillas for strictly one hour, which is intended to minimize chances of disease, spread from the human’s to mountain gorillas. There are high chances of disease spread from humans to the gorillas because about 98%of their DNA is similar to humans.
