The most exciting excursion out of Lucerne is to Mount Titlis where you can get a chance to frolic in the snow at the top of a mountain, guaranteed because it's a glacier, so there is snow all year round, throughout the summer throughout the winter and it just takes 2 hours to get from Lucerne up to the mountaintop. It is really a thrill to go up in the summer time and play because you wouldn't expect to run into snow on a warm summer day, but there it is, and it's very easy to get there. You take the scenic train from Lucerne on a one hour journey to Engelberg enjoying beautiful views of the mountains, farms and villages along the way.
Mount Titlis provides a spectacular view right into the heart of the Alps with the lofty peaks of the Jungfrau, Munch and Eiger visible in the distant Bernese Overland on a clear day, the Titlis viewing platform at 10,000 feet elevation has an elaborate multistoried restaurant, café and gift shop complex, along with ice cream snack bar and coffee bar out on the terrace in typical Swiss fashion. They have civilized this mountain and provided creature comforts while bringing you right into this wild natural environment.
Another activity while you're at the top of Mount Titlis is the glacier tunnel. It's an ice tunnel that they've carved right into the foundation of the glacier itself and there is colorful lighting inside. They have some ice sculptures inside and secure footing on a good rubber mat walkway and it's a lot of fun. You walk in the tunnel which goes around in a small loop circle. It just takes a few minutes but be sure to look for the ice grotto while you're up top.
One of the most exciting attractions is called the Cliff Walk. It's a pedestrian suspension bridge that gives you dramatic views looking all around, and even straight down 500 meters beneath your feet. It's claimed to be the highest suspension bridge in Europe and there is no extra charge for walking on it so by all means take advantage. It opened up at the end of 2012. It took them 5 months to build it and it has become a really popular attraction, sometimes called the world's scariest bridge.
For some more fun on the trip down you can get off the cable car at the next-to-last stop and rent a scooter to ride down the final mile. It is just a simple stand up foot scooter, you hold onto those handlebars with both hands and it's a wonderful ride that goes around zigzagging down on the road, which is at times a gravel road, a dirt road, but mostly it's a paved road. So it's really quite safe, quite fun. You’ve got good brakes with the scooter so you can slow down, you can stop, take a picture. Don't try and take any pictures while you're moving because you’ve got to keep both hands on the handlebars and wear that little protective helmet that comes with the rental. At the bottom you just leave the scooter in the pavilion and they will pick it up for you.

Mount Titlis & Trübsee Engelberg Switzerland 8K
The Most epic landscape of Switzerland , Mt. Titlis is a mountain of the Uri Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Obwalden and Bern. At 3,238 metres (10,623 ft) above sea level, it is the highest summit of the range north of the Susten Pass, between the Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland. It is mainly accessed from Engelberg (OW) on the north side and is famous as the site of the world's first rotating cable car. The cable car system connects Engelberg (996 m (3,268 ft)) to the summit of Klein Titlis (3,028 m (9,934 ft)) through the three stages of Gerschnialp (1,262 m (4,140 ft)), Trübsee (1,796 m (5,892 ft)) and Stand (2,428 m (7,966 ft)), although somewhat recently, a newer, direct route was created that bypassed Gerachnialp, going directly to Trübsee.

TITLIS Rotair – the world's first revolving cable car! | Engelberg Switzerland
TITLIS Rotair, the revolving cable car that rotates its way up towards the snow covered summit of mount Titlis.
Riding the cableways connection from the swiss alpine village of Engelberg to the Mount Titlis is surely one of the most breathtaking and mind-blowing Experience you can have in the alps! Mount Titlis is located at around 3'000 meters (10'000 ft) above sea level. The TITLIS cable cars take you from Engelberg up to 3,020 m.a.s.l. in about 30 minutes. The highlight is without question the ride with the TITLIS Rotair, that is the first revolving cable car in the world! Now in its second generation!
We ride the Mount TITLIS Express (TITLIS Xpress, scenic gondola ride) to the middle station of Trübsee, then to the station of Stand and finally, we took the revolving cable car (TITLIS Rotair) to the summit of the small Titlis (Klein Titlis).
At the summit station, at an altitude of around 3020 meters, you have a fantastic 360° panoramic view of majestic Alpine peaks and the surrounding glaciers. Snow fun all year round offers numerous attractions such as the Titlis cliff walk that is the highest suspension bridge in Europe.
We put some footage together of the TITLIS Rotair and we hope you like the video! We will also cover other parts of Engelberg in separate episodes, but... hey... this was so intense ;)! We have to breathe and recover from the stunning landscape ;)!

What to do on Mount Titlis in Switzerland? (Travel Guide)
Mount Titlis in Switzerland is one of the high mountain tops of the Swiss Alps that you can visit on your trip to Switzerland. It's in Engelberg and a short train ride away from Lucerne, Switzerland. There is year-round snow for you to enjoy on Mount Titlis. It’s worth a day trip, as while you are there, there are a lot of activities you can do on top of the mountain and also halfway up at Trübsee. Of course, the top at 10`000 feet has cool attractions in store for you. There is of course the famous Titlis Cliff Walk, a round trip cable car called Ice Flyer and the Glacier Cave where you take a walk inside of a real glacier.
The mountain is located just south of Engelberg, that is 30mins from Lucerne. You may take the train or a rental car, up to you! On top of Titlis you will see snow, and the vast scenery of the Swiss Alps. Make sure to bring some warm clothes, as also in summer temperatures rarely rise above 10°C (50°F). You may bring a picnic or enjoy the hospitality on site!
Mount Titlis is worth a visit if you want to experience the Alps with cows, flowers, snow and traditions when you are in the German speaking part in the cities of Zurich, Zug and Lucerne. If you are in other big cities, you may check for other mountain tops that might be closer to you. Unless, Titlis is your bucket list, which it certainly has the quality to be!

Glacier Cave
Titlis Glacier Cave is a 150-meter long ice tunnel, located deep under the glacier. The temperature inside the cave is just below freezing point, so the Glacier Cave can be visited the whole year. Just keep in mind that it's cold and slippery inside, so you need good shoes and warm clothes.
Ice thickness above the cave is between 3 and 20 meters (10-65 ft). The ice inside is said to be up to 5000 years old.
Titlis Cliff Walk
At 3,041 m height and 500 m above the ground, Titlis Cliff Walk is Europe's highest suspensic bridge and one of the best things to do at Mount Titlis.
Amazing Views
Mt Titlis offers some of the best mountain views in Switzerland. TITLIS Rotair, the cable car that you'll have to take in order to get to Mt Titlis, offers impressive 360° views of the surroundings.
This is the world's first revolving gondola that slowly turns as it goes up, giving you an opportunity to enjoy some jaw-dropping scenery all around you. However, this is just an introduction of what's to come.
Once on top of Mt Titlis, you have many more possibilities to enjoy spectacular views in pretty much all directions. There is a viewing platform on the top floor of the Mt Titlis Mountain Station, great views from the mountain top itself.

How to Reach Titlis / Lucerne to Titlis travel :
By train
Travel directly from Lucerne to Engelberg on the Zentralbahn railway. The journey from Lucerne takes around 45 minutes. The route from Engelberg train station to the TITLIS valley station takes just ten minutes on foot or you can hop on the free shuttle bus.
Up the mountain
The 8-seater TITLIS Xpress cable car will transport you all the way up from Engelberg to Stand station. You can hop on or off at Trübsee / trubsee middle station. The TITLIS ROTAIR cable car will then take you on the final leg of the ascent from Stand to the summit station at 3,020 metres above sea level. The journey from Engelberg to TITLIS mountain station takes around 30 minutes.

The first place to visit is Intersport at the base of the Titlis mountain to pickup your skiing or snowboarding gear. They offer pretty good rental rates. Visit Titlis at early dawn by jumping on world's first revolving cable car since 1992, the Titlis Rotair. This cable car will take you to the peak of Titlis at a height of 3020 meters. Titlis is best known for having Europe's highest suspension bridge but also a beautiful turquoise-blue light caused by refracted sunlight. The temperature in the cave is a steady -2 degrees Celsius all year round.
Downtown Engelberg provides a cozy shopping street for great Swiss souvenirs, restaurants offering Swiss cuisine like Cheese Fondue and the Tal museum. At the end of the Engelberg village street (Dorfstrasse) you'll find the Engelberg Abbey. The abbey was founded by monks in 1120, while the town of Engelberg gradually built around it. Engelberg literally means Angel Mountain in English.
One of our favorite activities was rental a set of snowmobiles at SnowXPark at the mid-station on Titlis. For just 25 CHF or $23 US dollars for 10 minutes on a closed track, great for an afternoon match-off. Luckily, converting Swiss Francs to US dollars is easy, they are the exact same.
One of the better restaurants in Engelberg include Ende Der Welt restaurant, literally; The End of The World. Since this cozy restaurant is located at the end of a narrow street within a massive valley.
Another restaurant worth mentioning is Alpenclub, we must have had our best meal here. The house special; This incredible juicy steak covers with onions will set you back 52 CHF, $52 US dollars, but it will be the best juicy steak you'll ever eat.
The absolute best activity was Airboarding on Mount Brunni, this was a totally unexpected activity. Airboarding is basically sledding but on your stomach on an air mattress. Airboarding has its own dedicated track and is so much fun, especially while racing your friends. Renting an airboard will set you back 15 CHF, $15 US dollars.
In conclusion, Engelberg is an absolute fantastic winter sport destination if you want to avoid the busy jet set slopes of Austria and Germany. Engelberg offers something for everyone, from families to die-hard professional snowboarders. Do not forget to end every meal in Engelberg with a local Luz coffee which is thin coffee with fruit flavoured Brandy, got to love the Swiss! Now if you want to save yourself a ton of money, consider buying the official Swiss Travel Pass which cover free transit in Switzerland on trains, boats, buses and cable cars but also includes access to 420 museums in Switzerland. Starting at 240 CHF, $240 US dollars, it would be a mistake visiting Switzerland without it.

Die TITLIS-Bergbahn bringt dich von Engelberg aus in 30 Minuten bis auf 3.020 Meter. Das Highlight nach dem Umsteigen ist die Fahrt mit der TITLIS Rotair - der ersten drehbaren Luftseilbahn der Welt!
Auf der Aussichtsplattform am Südwandfenster begibst du dich auf den Titlis Cliff Walk. Hier kann es dich in 3000 Meter bei Sturm schon mal ordentlich durchschütteln. Aber keine Angst im freien Fall sind es bis zum Abgrund nur 500 Meter. Die 150 Schritte bis zur anderen Seite werden durch die atemberaubende Bergkulisse inklusive Adrenalinkik belohnt .
Der Cliffwalk gilt als höchtgelegene Hängebrücke Europas.
5000 Jahre altes Eis und konstante minus 1,5 Grad. Das erwartet Dich in der Gletscherhöle am Titlis. Winterbekleidung ist hier bei einem Sommerausflug ratsam.
Der 150 m lange Gang führt Dich bis zu 20 Meter unter die Oberfläche des ewigen Eises. Die eisigen, bunt beleuchteten Wände, machen die Gletscherhöhle zu einem begehrten Fotomotiv deren Farbenbracht begeisternde Eindrücke hinterlässt.
Und auf einmal wirst Du ganz still und Du merkst, Glück hängt nicht davon ab wer Du bist oder was Du hast. Es hängt nur davon ab was Du machst. Der Titlis verändert Dich und am Ende des Tages müsste hier das Leben Dich fragen „Möchten Sie die Änderung speichern?“ Denn die Natur macht nichts vergeblich.

Blown Away on top of Mount Titlis in Switzerland! | Europe Travel Vlog
During our recent trip to Switzerland (see other video links below), we took the cable cars all the way up to the top of Mount Titlis near Engelberg, Switzerland. It was May, so we didn't really come prepared for just how cold, windy and snowy it was going to be at the top!
Afterwards, (we did survive), we headed back to the northern part of Switzerland where we stayed in a super unique hotel that used to be an iron ore silo!
