Mother Mary's House Kusadasi Turkey - Mother Of Jesus Lived Here

Mary's House Near Ephesus/Kusadasi Turkey

We wanted to show in this video what it's like on a tour getting to Mary's house from a cruise ship since most people will probably get to Kusadasi via ship. Our port of call is the seaside resort town of Kusadasi Turkey which is best known for its proximity to the ruins of Ephesus and the little stone home where Jesus's mother spent her final years. By some accounts Mary lived to the age of 72 which was very mature in her time.

If you are coming to Mary's house in hopes of seeing Jesus's old bedroom you may be disappointed. There are only two main room open to visitors. The Living room/Kitchen and small bedroom. After Jesus, Mary had 6 more children-4 boys and two girls, but there is no record of any of them visiting or living in Mary's little stone cottage.

Saint Mary's house is often considered in Ephesus Turkey but it is actually a couple of miles away on a hillside among a grove of trees with its own natural spring that still runs today. When you visit Mary's House you can drink from the spring and collect holy water to take with you. As part of our tour we were given a gift bag with an Evil Eye and a little clay pot to collect some water.
We decided against drinking any of the water because we were in the middle of our Mediterranean cruise and the last thing we needed was a case of Turkish Diarrhea or any other kind of bug. We had a bottled water only policy during our whole trip and it served us well. What did we do with the water? It didn't go to waste. We gave it to our cats who slurped it right up.

This video is an original work created with video and photos taken while on a Mediterranean cruise to Kusadasi Turkey. The video effects and titles were created on my home computer using video editing software.

House of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus-Turkey

The House of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos in the vicinity of Ephesus, Turkey. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a paralyzed German Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death. One of Emmerich's accounts was a description of the house the Apostle John had built in Ephesus for Mary, the mother of Jesus, where she had lived to the end of her life.

Archaeologists who have examined the building believe most of the building dates from the 6th or 7th century but its foundations are much older and may well date from the 1st century AD, the time of Mary. The Catholic Church has never come out in favor or against the authenticity of the house, but nevertheless maintains a steady flow of pilgrims since its discovery.

House of the Virgin Mary. Ephesus, Turkey

Lost to history for centuries, the foundations of the house were rediscovered through the miraculous visions of a German nun named Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), who gave detailed directions and descriptions of the house.

Her directions were followed by Abbé Julien Gouyet of Paris in 1881, and by two Lazarist missionaries from Izmir in 1891. Both expeditions ended at the same place, a spot on Mt Koressos which had been venerated by local people—both Christian and Muslim—for centuries.

Excavations uncovered ancient stone foundations, most from the 500s and 600s, but some from the 1st century AD, when Mary would have been alive.

Today the Virgin Mary's House is a goal for pilgrims who come from far away to visit the house rebuilt as a chapel, to sip the waters of an adjoining spring said to have curative powers, and to enjoy the pine-shaded mountaintop location.

A commemorative service is held each August 15th commemorating the Virgin Mary's Assumption into heaven.

After a visit by Pope Paul VI in 1967, the Catholic church confirmed the authenticity of the legend and the visions. Pope John Paul II visited in 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.

The house of Virgin Mary in Ephesus - One of the holiest places in Turkey

Virgin Mary´s house is one of the holiest places in Turkey.

It is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located near Ephesus, in the city Selcuk inTurkey.

The house of Virgin Mary was discovered in the 19 th century by following the descriptions of the blind roman german cathlic nun Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824). In a dream Emmerich's saw the the house the Apostle John had built in Ephesus for Mary, the mother of Jesus, where she had lived to the end of her life and descriped it to people.

That lead a team to start searching for the house of Virgin Mary in Turkey - and they found it!

Archaeologists, who have examined the area, dates most the building from the 6th or 7th century but its foundations are much older and may well date from the 1st century AD, which is the time of Virgin Mary.

Abbey of the Dormition, Mount Zion Jerusalem
The legend holds that during Saint Helena's pilgrimage to the Holy Land between 326 and 328, she identified two spots on the Mount of Olives as being associated with Jesus' life - the place of His Ascension, and a grotto associated with His teaching of the Lord's Prayer - and that on her return to Rome she ordered the construction of two sanctuaries at these locations.

The monastic church- “the Dormition” is one of the most prominent churches in Jerusalem due to its size, beauty and location that overlooks the old city. The church was built on a plot which the German emperor Wilhelm the 2nd received from the Ottoman sultan during his visit to the Holy Land in 1898, and it was inaugurated in 1910. The emperor decided to establish here a large church that would demonstrate the strength of Germany, and the building does in fact give a feeling of a fortress.

The church stands out due to its round shape, unlike most of Jerusalem’s churches that are rectangular. The central building is round, as well as the wings and towers surrounding it. Also the cone-shaped dome has a form that is distinct from the other churches of Jerusalem. Another unique characteristic of the church is the integration of motifs from east and west- a massive neo-Romanesque building, which is similar to ancient cathedrals in Europe, combined with white and red stones that characterize the Mameluke architecture. The narrow alleys emphasize the vast dimensions of the church, which is 34 meters high- like a 12 story building. The church was established where, according to tradition, Miriam, mother of Jesus, fell to her death- sleep. The church’s name derives from this event- “The Dormition”, meaning “coma”.

The interior of the church is impressive, with a mosaic floor. The mosaic presents a Latin quotation of the Book of Psalms: “May the Lord bless you from Zion”- a verse referring to Mount Zion where the church stands. The mosaic also depicts the Ark of Noah that drifted on stormy waves. This is a common metaphor in Christianity, symbolizing the belief that only its followers will be saved from the Great Flood at the far distant future.

The church’s floor is covered by a large and round mosaic. The inner circle is comprised of three circles, with the Greek inscription “Agios”- meaning “saint” in Greek. The three circles symbolize the divinity, which sends tongues of fire to the four main prophets: Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel, who appear in the second circle. The Gospel is conveyed by them to the 12 prophets and four writers of the gospels, whose names are mentioned in the third circle and they are also depicted in the illustrations: the angle is Mathew, the eagle is John, the bull is Lucas and the lion is Mark. They were the ones who conveyed the Gospels to the whole world, which is symbolized by a zodiac.

The mosaic symbolizes the connection between, and the continuation from the bible- prophets to the apostles and four messengers of the Gospels. In the Apsis at the front of the church facing the east, stands the main altar of the church, with a magnificent mosaic presenting baby Jesus in the hands of his mother Miriam. Jesus holds an open book in which the following text is written in Greek: “I am the light of the world”. Below them stand the prophets who prophesized the coming of the Messiah, their heads surrounded by halos. The alcoves surrounding the hall are secondary altars which were donated by German Catholic communities.

House of the Virgin Mary, Selçuk, İzmir, Aegean Region, Turkey, Asia

The House of the Virgin Mary is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos in the vicinity of Ephesus, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Selçuk in Turkey. The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), a Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death. While the Catholic Church has never pronounced in favour or against the authenticity of the house, it nevertheless has maintained a steady flow of pilgrimage since its discovery. Anne Catherine Emmerich was Beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 3, 2004. Catholic pilgrims visit the house based on the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine) or Dormition (according to Orthodox belief). The shrine has merited several papal Apostolic Blessings and visits from several popes, the earliest pilgrimage coming from Pope Leo XIII in 1896, and the most recent in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. The shrine itself is not extensively large, but may rather be described as a modest chapel. The preserved stones and construction date back into the Apostolic Age, as consistent with other preserved buildings from that time, but with minor additions such as garden landscapes and devotional additions outside the shrine. Upon entrance to the chapel, a pilgrim is met by one single large room where an altar along with a large statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is prominently displayed in the center. On the right side, a smaller room lies traditionally associated with the actual room where the Virgin Mary is believed to have slept. Marian tradition holds that some form of running water used to flow like a canal in the smaller room where the Virgin Mary slept and rested, leading to the present drinking fountain outside the building structure.

EPHESUS TURKEY HOUSE OF VIRGIN MARY AND ST JOHN'S BASILICA

EPHESUS TURKEY HOUSE OF VIRGIN MARY AND ST. JOHN`S BASILICA
When curious people in the States (NY-PA-OH) where I had worked in the past ,asked me in different occasions ; 'What kind of place is this İzmir-Turkey you came from ? .. I used to answer ; Jesus Christ asked apostle St.John ( as his last wish from him ) to bring his beloved mother Mary to Ephesus ( just 60 kilometers from İzmir ) when he was being crucified in Jerusalem -- In other words God himself brought his mother to Ephesus to spend rest of her life on earth , St.John established his Church in Ephesus(still standing very old and big brick building with ancient baptismal marble small pool and other structures still standing , it is called St.John's Church in Ephesus which is build 2000 years ago ) -- Heaven on Earth land of Milk and Honey , beautiful weather (
needles to say , in winter never snows in İzmir and no hurricanes or tornados ever seen here ) true homeland of Figs- Grapes and Olives and Apricots and Cherries and excellent biodiversity for millions of years ; on this land called Anatolia . Early people had realized this fact since Neolithic times.. Çatalhöyük , Hattians and Pelasgians and later 12 Ionian colonies by the Mediterranean .
No further explanation ever needed ( what kind of place I came from) after my words above , theological and historical facts have been so clear , as the believers of God ; of course they quickly realized .. How beautiful place this Ephesus/İzmir should be ... indeed it really is ..

HZ. MERYEM ANA EVİ - Meryem ana kilisesi
#Meryemanaevi, Selçuk'a 9 km. uzaklıktaki Bülbül Dağı üzerinde bulunmaktadır. İsa'nın ölümünden 4 ya da 6 yıl sonra St. John'un Meryem Ana'yı Efes'e getirdiği bilinmektedir. 1891 yılında Lazarist papazlar Alman rahibe A.Katherina Emmerick'in rüyası üzerine Meryem Ana'nın son günlerini geçirdiği evin araştırmalar sonunda bu ev olduğunu ortaya çıkarmışlardır.
