Lviv Rynok Square to Lviv Train Station - Walk with me - Ukraine Travel Guide by an Englishman
Ukraine is a vast country and a common journey for many travellers and tourists is to see the beautiful city of L'viv and then head onwards to another Ukrainian city via L'viv Train Station. Now one could always simply just jump in a taxi but where is the fun in that (especially if you are all masked up these days). Now I could have just as easily jumped on a Tram or a bus for the grand total of 10uah but instead due to the wonderful sunshine and having a spring in my step I decided to walk from the centre of L'viv at a fountain of a Goddess in Rynok Square to L'viv train station. Curious about what I would see along the way. Join me on another walk while we discover more sights to this wonderful city in western Ukraine.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. Kyiv, Ukraine | Visiting the Ukrainian Capital During War
I visited Kyiv, Ukraine for a few days, after finding a train ticket and deciding I would finally go to see this beautiful and historic city.
I was fortunate that Kyiv itself was actually pretty safe on the days I was in there to make this video.
Nevertheless, war is still going on. 1/5th of the country is still occupied by Russia. Cities closer to the front lines are being bombarded frequently and Kyiv still sometimes gets targeted. Air raid alerts are still a frequent part of life. Also just about every single person in Ukraine has a family member or friend fighting to defend their country right now, and many have lost loved ones to this protracted aggression that is being put upon their country.
But my short time in Kyiv was nice, and I got to see both the history of the past, and a bit of the history currently being made there, all while having a nice time with a friend of mine from there, who showed me around a bit.

Kyiv.

Lviv.
Lviv is the largest city in western Ukraine and boasts a historic center that’s well worth exploring. Established in 1240 and named after Leo, the oldest son of the King of Ruthenia, the capital changed hands several times between the Polish and the Russians before finally becoming independent in 1991.
Odessa.
Odessa is a modern city with stunning Art Nouveau architecture, pretty people-watching cafes, and gorgeous beaches. Located on the north-western shore of the Black Sea, it’s often nicknamed the Pearl of the Black Sea.
Odessa boasts a thriving nightlife scene in Arcadia, with Ibiza-comparable night clubs, enviable shopping.
Kamianets-Podilskyi.
It's in western Ukraine is most famous for the Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress. In fact, it’s one of the main reasons tourists visit this fairy-tale city. Towering over the Smotrych River, the fortress is truly magnificent it’s easily one of the most picturesque fortresses in Eastern Europe.

Visit Local Market.
Visit a market and find a wide variety of handicrafts highlighting traditional arts in the country. Textiles are many, especially the traditionally embroidered blouses, called vyshyvanka, and hand towels used in many homes around the country.
Another favorite of visitors are the many vintage war items found at these flea market locations along with fun floral headpieces.

Take a Cooking Class and Eat Dumplings.
find a restaurant that also offers cooking lessons of the famous Ukrainian dumplings, vareniki. They are available in many varieties, both sweet and savory, and foodies can find meat, potatoes, and cabbage, as well as sweet cherry and other local fruit flavors.

Traditional Ukrainian borscht can be found in restaurants all over the country. Available either hot or cold, it's a perfect example of the citizens stretching ingredients when times were tough, and if you're lucky, the very best versions will inspire you to find a recipe to make once you're back home.

I found myself back in one of my favourite cities in Europe. The city of Lions - the wonderful city of Lviv. However, because of poor planning, I had left my accommodation booking until I was on the train from Kyiv and on route. I'm very carefree about where I stay when I'm on the road - I will stay in a variety of places ranging from Top 5 star hotels to a spare room of a welcoming stranger or a hip hostel. As long as it's warm and safe I'm content. In this video, I give you an idea of what you can get for £12 (Roughly slightly more than $15 USD). Just a heads up - Lviv has some wonderful accommodation - see my other videos in the Ukraine series to get some insight into other types of accommodation. This is not one of the gems of Lviv but It worked for a night in Lviv.

Locals inform this Englishman their favourite places in Lviv Ukraine. In the weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine I was attempting to make a series of videos around Ukraine that gave insight into the best places to visit when in Ukraine. One of those videos - that never quite got finished was asking people in Lviv what their favourite places were. The original video was planned to be far longer and far more detailed but war got in the way of the filming. Rather than leave that footage in the can I felt these local recommendations were worthy of a small video.
