FEZ, MOROCCO (2023) | 7 BEST Things To Do In & Around Fez

Fez is located in northern Morocco and is commonly referred to as the country’s cultural capital. Dating back to the 9th century, Fez is known for its ancient, chaotic medina filled with madrasas, palaces, residences, mosques, and fountains from this period. It’s also home to the first university in the world according to the Guinness World Records.

???? WHERE WE STAYED (highly recommend!) - Palais Fes Yahya:

7. Explore the medina Fes el Bali
Fes el Bali is the oldest walled part of Fez. It consists of more than 9,000 narrow alleyways, so it’s a true maze. That’s why we recommend going on a guided tour here on your first day. Not only will you see the important historical sights and souks, but you’ll also feel more at ease wandering these tight alleys.

☑️ Guided tour of Fes el Bali:

6. Get a view over the medina
The old city of Fes is surrounded by hills that offer panoramic views. The Marinid Tombs are located on the hill that lies to the north of the city. These monumental tombs were originally a royal necropolis for the Marinid dynasty which ruled in the 13th to 15th centuries. And although the tombs are in a heavily ruined state today, it’s still fun to walk around here and take in the views of the entire walled medina area from above.

5. Stroll around the Jnan Sbil Gardens
If you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the medina, then head to the only public garden in the area. This peaceful slice of nature is home to various birds, plants, flowers, and palm tree-lined walkways. Stroll around the gardens to recharge your batteries.

4. Admire the Bou Inania Madrasa
Located in the medina, this ‘madrasa’, or Islamic school of learning, is one of the few religious buildings in the city that non-Muslims are allowed to enter. It was constructed in the 14th century and up until the 1960s, this was an actual functioning theological school. Today, you can admire the beautiful carved woodwork, marble courtyard, mosaic tilework and decorations.

3. Take in the Smells of the Tanneries
The tanneries of Fez are one of the city’s most famous attractions. Located in the old town, the tanneries have been the bustling center of the city's leather industry since the medieval era. The only way to get the iconic bird’s-eye views over the dying pits is to visit the leather stores surrounding the tannery area.

2. Go on a day trip to Volubilis & Meknes
One of the things we liked about Fez was its proximity to other interesting destinations. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis is situated a one and a half hour drive from Fez. Home to the best-preserved Roman ruins in all of Morocco, this site was one of the most remote outposts of the Roman Empire.

☑️ Day tour to Volubilis & Meknes from Fez:

1. Go on a day trip to Chefchaouen
Another great day trip from Fez goes to Chefchaouen, which is a 3.5 hour drive away. It’s known as the Blue City thanks to its picturesque streets filled with houses painted in different shades of blue. The best way to explore these alleyways is to simply get lost and take photos.

☑️ Chefchaouen day tour from Fez:

FES - Morocco's GRAND Imperial City! Travel Vlog

In this travel vlog I'll show you the real Fes (or Fez). The grandest of Morocco's grand imperial cities is known as the country’s cultural capital. The Fes El Bali walled medina is largest Islamic medieval city in the world, where life goes on mostly as it has for hundreds of years.

Even the new, or middle city - Fes El Jdid, dates to around the 13th century!

I'll show you not just the sights of the Fes El Bali medina such as the famous Tannery Sidi Moussa, but also around the streets and day to day life. The greatest joy of the medina is not an individual sight, it's simply walking around, getting lost and taking it all in.

In Fes El Jdid we'll walk around both the Islamic and Jewish sides, seeing another Fes medina and the wonderful differences that exist in this part of the city.

MARRAKECH, MOROCCO (2023) | 10 BEST Things To Do In & Around Marrakech

Marrakech is located in the center of Morocco. With its vibrant colors, buzzing atmosphere, mix of tradition and modernity, and aromatic smells, it’s a city like no other: Marrakech truly stimulates all your senses at once.

10. Explore the Marrakech medina (free walking tour)
The medina is the heart of the Marrakech, packed with shops, traditional houses called “riads”, restaurants, and many of the historic sites.

☑️ Free walking tour:

???? WHERE TO STAY IN THE MEDINA:
- Riad Basma (where we stayed - budget option):
- Palais Dar Donab (more luxurious):

9. Try the traditional local food
Some staples you have to try include couscous, meat brochettes, and the most iconic dish of all: tagine.

8. Visit the Saadian Tombs
The Saadian Tombs are a 16th century burial ground of the Saadian dynasty, which ruled over Marrakech between 1524 and 1668.

7. Find peace at the Majorelle Gardens
Located in Marrakech’s new town, these lush botanical gardens are filled with cacti, palms, and other colorful trees.

6. Stroll around Mellah Jewish Quarter
There are still a number of Jewish places here, including the Lazama Synagogue, the Miara Jewish Cemetery, and the Spice Market.

5. Get lost in the souks
What makes the souks in Marrakech remarkable is the wide variety of exotic items you can buy, such as babouches, lanterns, ceramics, carpets, and leather goods.

☑️ Different souks in Marrakech:

4. Check the ruins of El Badi Palace
The Saadian Ruler Al-Mansour who was buried in the Saadian Tombs built this grand palace in the 16th century.

3. See the beautiful Bahia Palace
After El Badi Palace, it might be interesting to see the contrast with the beautiful Bahia Palace, which was built in the late 19th century.

With a height of 110 meters or 360 feet, these are the tallest waterfalls in the country. A day tour from Marrakech includes a hike down to the river, do a short boat ride to get closer to the falls, and hike up again.

The TRUTH about the 3 Day Tour from MARRAKECH to the SAHARA DESERT (Merzouga) - IS IT WORTH IT?

Are you thinking of taking the 3 day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes in the Sahara Desert? If so, you've found the right video!

In this video I'll take you along and show you in detail what the tour is like. I'll show the truth, the good and the bad. The driving, the sights along the way, the food, the accommodation, the timings, the costs. Everything.

It’s a popular tour for anyone visiting Morocco, and it’s the real thing right to the edge of the Sahara proper, rather than the one day tours. Before I went I couldn’t find that much information online prior to going. There was no real detail about exactly what you see, where you stay and what you eat. Also, what you get for paying a little extra for the luxury option.
This is the video I wish I had been able to watch before going.

We’ll go from Marrakech and up into the Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass - The highest pass through the mountains. From there we come out the other side of the mountains and visit and amazing ancient town of Ait Ben Hadou, where many movies have been filmed. We’ll stop at the Rose valley and the Dadès Gorges before going to the hotel for the night.

On day 2, we’ll visit Tinghir and the Todgha Gorge before getting to Merzouga and riding a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes to the camp for the night.

The final day is the long journey back to Marrakech. On this day I’ll give you my full summary of the tour - the good, the bad, advice and tips.

Here's a full breakdown of what the tour involved, allowing you to go straight to any part you're interested in. Be sure to watch to the end so that you can hear my summary and useful tips!

Food Tour in Fez, Morocco!! HUGE CHICKEN MOUNTAIN + Best Street Food in Fez!

???????? Morocco Street Food in Marrakesh:
???? T-shirts:

FEZ, MOROCCO - Welcome to the incredible city of Fez (Fes), Morocco - and one of the most fascinating and delicious food cities in all of Morocco. Today we’re eating everything from a homestyle breakfast to Moroccan street food to a huge dinner fit for a Sultan.

A huge thank you to Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging my trip to Morocco!

Breakfast at Riad Jardin Chrifa - We started with an excellent local, homestyle breakfast, in a Fez courtyard at Riad Jardin Chrifa. I can’t get enough preserved beef and eggs, without a doubt one of the best breakfast you can eat in Morocco.

Fez street food tour - After breakfast we set out to explore the narrow streets of Fez. Again, it’s an absolutely fascinating city, with history and delicious food. To navigate the tiny lanes we had the help of Fatima, from Moroccan Food Tour. We tried some local medicinal honey, cactus fruit, but by far my favorite - a legendary stall in the old lanes serving steamed beef and steamed chicken with vermicelli. That stall alone is worth visiting Fez for!

Riad Dar Chrifa ( - For dinner, and actually this is the place where we spent the night, our host family prepared one of the most elaborate Moroccan feasts I’ve ever experiences. We started with the classic Moroccan salads, before moving on to a giant chicken and egg nest platter with four chicken and with a sauce that melted in your mouth. Next we had a lamb shank platter with nuts and fruits that was spectacular. One thing I’ve learned in Morocco is that food is delicious, but nothing compares to home cooked meals.

FIRST CLASS TRAIN IN MOROCCO | Fes to Marrakech | Morocco Travel Vlog

We love travelling on trains (even though Jacqui sometimes gets travel sick), but we had no idea what to expect in a First Class Train in Morocco!

This 6.5 hour journey was not the most comfortable but... it could have been worse!

It was the cheapest and most convenient way to get from Fes, Morocco's Cultural Capital, to Marrakech, the heart and busiest city in Morocco.

There are some bumps along the way but you'll but have watch to find out.

Our Gear:
We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Moroccan Street Food ???????? Night Market Tour in Marrakesh, Morocco (Jema El Fnaa Square)

???????? Morocco Street Food in Marrakesh:
???? T-shirts:

MARRAKESH, MOROCCO - One of the most thrilling places to eat Moroccan street food in the entire country is in Jema El Fnaa Square at night! So tonight we’re going on a Moroccan food tour to eat a few of the must eat dishes you have to try.

A huge thank you to Moroccan Food Tour ( for arranging my trip to Morocco!

Jema El Fnaa Square is a UNESCO world heritage site, and a place where people have gathered together for hundreds of years to tell stories, perform, snake charm, have food, and play instruments. It’s truly one of the most fascinating squares on earth. While daytime is calmer, at night you’ll find an abundance of street food and performer and so after a full Marrakesh street food tour in the daytime ( we’re going on an ultimate night market street food tour!

We first started with Harira, a porridge soup with tomato, lentils, and herbs. It’s a hearty dish, and really warm and comforting. Along with it, you can eat dates, chebekia sweets, or my preference for msemen - Moroccan stuffed flatbread.

Here are the other places I tried:

Hassan Snails, Stall #3 - Amazing Marrakesh herbal snails
Chez Krita, Stall #14 - One of the oldest stalls at the market, and famous for seafood
Lamb Head, Stall #50 - Can’t go to Jema El Fnaa Square without a lamb head!
Chez Abdelouahed, Stall #66 - Iconic and extremely popular potato and egg sandwich
Chez Hassan, Stall #70 Herbal Tea

Jema El Fnaa Square is an overdose of everything - from music and dance, to a festival of tasty food, there are few places on earth more exciting if you love to eat!

Tour of Fes, Morocco, The World's Largest Medina ????????

I tour the historic medina of Fes in Morocco, the largest in the world. With vibrant alleys that snake around at will, a fully functioning society continues to exist here in the 21st century. Home to the oldest university on planet earth, hammams, food joints, cafes, tanneries, mosques, and a eclectic array of marchants, getting lost here is truly worth it.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and YouTuber who's been to 55 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a YouTube full-time job.

After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).

I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.

I've travelled to North America just once as a YouTuber, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.

So far in 2022, I've taken my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. In the summer I visited the Caribbean for the first time, spending over a month in the Dominican Republic, before stopping in Belgium on my way home.

After shooting some videos in Taiwan, I made my way to the Philippines for the second time. I finished 2022 by filming a series of videos in Morocco.
