We always say, winter is not bad at all; it has its beauty. Have a glimpse of Montreal's first snowfall of this year. The falling of snow is just magical. It is white, light, and powdery when untouched; just beautiful.

Montreal snowstorm - January 19th-January 21st, 2019
A video compilation highlighting the first significant snowfall for the island of Montreal (and closely surrounding locations) for the Fall-Winter 2018-2019 period. 20.4 cm of snow fell over the island (specifically the airport) from late-day January 19th to early-January 21st. Significant blowing and drifting snow also created near-technical blizzard conditions during the morning to early-afternoon of January 20th, when snowfall rates were typically 1.5 to occasionally 2.5 cm/hour. The initial section of the video (the darker portion) highlights the evening of January 19th, although initial light snowfall began by late-afternoon. Interestingly, this snowstorm also featured unusually cold conditions, where temperatures were resolutely between -17 to -22 C throughout this event (windchills of -27 to -35 C). This was the coldest snowstorm in 99 years for the island.

Montreal snowstorm - January 23rd, 2019
A brief video compilation highlighting the second significant snowfall of the Fall-Winter 2018-2019 period for the island of Montreal. Snowfall rates were about 1 cm/per hour through most of this event (a Colorado low) over a ~15-hour period, leading to 15.4 cm at the airport before a transition to freezing rain (about 7 mm), and, thus, narrowly making this the second significant snowfall. Snowfall warnings were briefly released for the SW West Island and SW towards the Ontario border. This snowfall closely follows the previous 20.4 cm snowfall event from January 19th-January 21st, 2019.
The video mostly shows the initial snowfall, which began around 3:00 a.m. January 23rd, and transitioning to freezing rain by about 6:14 p.m. (the struggles of the ice cleaning and maneuvering towards the end of the video).

Montreal snowstorm - December 30th-December 31st, 2019
A video compilation showing the island of Montreal’s second significant snowfall of the Fall-Winter 2019-2020 season. This snowfall was associated with a double-barrel area of low pressure, which first led to an extensive period of freezing rain and ice pellets (sleet) before a transition to heavy snowfall by approximately 4:15 p.m. EST, December 30th. Ice pellets began during the mid-morning period, mixing with periods of light to moderate freezing rain. Gusty NE to ENE winds on December 30th further led to blowing ice pellets and snow, reducing visibility substantially.
3.4 mm of freezing rain fell, and between the snowfall and ice pellets/sleet, there were approximately 26.6 cm (20.2 cm of snowfall + 6.4 cm of ice pellets).

Montréal, je rêvais d'y retourner pour y profiter d'un nouvel hiver. Après y avoir vécu près d'un an en PVT en 2015-2016 et y être retourné au printemps 2017 ! Je me devais d'y repartir pour l'hiver 2018. J'ai adoré parcourir les rues enneigées de Montréal, revoir les lieux que j'adore et quelques personnes par là-bas. Montréal, c'est ma ville coup de cœur.

Montreal Blizzard 15/03/17
Just a slightly chilly walk to work 5 days before the start of spring in Montreal, Canada. Yeah, this is what almost spring looks like here
Première neige
Ce jeudi 7 novembre, on avait prévu de monter au Mont Royal pour voir une dernière fois les couleurs d'automne. Mais dans la nuit, on a été surprises par la première neige. On décide d'y aller quand même. En ville, la neige ne tient pas, et on dirait juste qu'il a plu. Mais dès qu'on prend un peu de hauteur, tous les arbres sont enneigés, ainsi que l'herbe et les fossés. Tout est blanc, blanc immaculé. On se trompe d'arrêt de bus et tombe par hasard sur le lac au dessus de chez moi, où j'étais venue il y a quelques semaines. En si peu de temps, il est méconnaissable. Les arbres sont passés de flamboyants, rouges, jaunes, et orange, à un camaïeu de blancs. On arrive finalement au point de vue au coucher du soleil et.. ô que d'émerveillement ! Les nuages bas se teintent de rose. C'est magnifique ! Un spectacle éphémère. Seulement quelques secondes pour capter toute la beauté de l'instant, en se gelant les doigts sur l'appareil photo. Sans aucun doute un des plus beaux couchers de soleil qu'il m'ait été donné de voir. Ce contraste avec la neige.. splendide !
Une vidéo ne rendra jamais toute la beauté de la réalité, mais j'ai fait de mon mieux.
