Qué Hacer en Montevideo Uruguay | Una Ciudad de Gran Caracter
¿Qué hacer en Montevideo, Uruguay? Aunque es la capital y la ciudad más grande y poblada del país, Hoy, Montevideo, Uruguay es todavía una pequeña ciudad pero con un gran carácter, como casi todo lo que encontramos en Uruguay.
Al viajar a Montevideo, Uruguay, viajamos hoy a un lugar vibrante y ecléctico con una rica vida cultural.
Con una extensión de 20 km de este a oeste, la ciudad tiene muchas caras para ver, desde su puerto industrial hasta el exclusivo suburbio playero de Carrasco, cerca del aeropuerto.
Recorriendo el distrito comercial del centro histórico, encontramos edificios art deco y neoclásicos que luchan por el espacio junto a los viejos rascacielos.
Mientras que, al sureste, los centros comerciales y los edificios modernos de comunidades de playa como Punta Carretas y Pocitos se parecen más a los de Miami, Copacabana o la Ciudad de Panamá.
La Rambla de la capital, que da acceso a más de 30 km de costa, es uno de los principales atributos de Montevideo y un paseo inolvidable para sus habitantes, que acuden con frecuencia a beber mate (té al estilo sudamericano) y dar largas caminatas.
Además, la gran cantidad de espacios verdes, parques y jardines también brindan numerosas opciones al aire libre.
Montevideo también tiene una extensa escena cultural. Sus producciones teatrales son notablemente extensas y variadas, e incluyen espectáculos clásicos, modernos y alternativos.
Conociendo los museos, centros culturales y salas de exposiciones de Montevideo, es posible apreciar el arte de una amplia gama de artistas.
En 2013, por segunda vez, Montevideo fue nombrada Capital Iberoamericana de la Cultura por la Unión de las Ciudades Capitales Iberoamericanas.
En fin, al hacer turismo en Montevideo encontramos una capital singularmente tranquila que carece de la agitada vida citadina de muchos otros centros urbanos.

Montevideo is the capital and largest city of Uruguay. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has a population of 1,319,108 (about one-third of the country's total population) in an area of 201 square kilometers (78 sq mi). Montevideo is situated on the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata.
The city was established in 1724 by a Spanish soldier, Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, as a strategic move amidst the Spanish-Portuguese dispute over the platine region. It was also under brief British rule in 1807, but eventually the city was retaken by Spanish criollos who defeated the British invasions of the River Plate. Montevideo is the seat of the administrative headquarters of Mercosur and ALADI, Latin America's leading trade blocs, a position that entailed comparisons to the role of Brussels in Europe.
The 2019 Mercer's report on quality of life, rated Montevideo first in Latin America, a rank the city has consistently held since 2005. As of 2010, Montevideo was the 19th largest city economy in the continent and 9th highest income earner among major cities. In 2022, it has a projected GDP of $53.9 billion, with a per capita of $30,148.
In 2018, it was classified as a beta global city ranking eighth in Latin America and 84th in the world. Montevideo hosted every match during the first FIFA World Cup, in 1930. Described as a vibrant, eclectic place with a rich cultural life, and a thriving tech center and entrepreneurial culture, Montevideo ranked eighth in Latin America on the 2013 MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index.
It is the hub of commerce and higher education in Uruguay as well as its chief port. The city is also the financial hub of Uruguay and the cultural anchor of a metropolitan area with a population of around 2 million.
Visiting MONTEVIDEO's Attractions + Eating CHIVITO (Uruguay's National Dish) ????????
Hello from Montevideo! In today’s video, we'll be visiting some of the city's attractions and also sampling Uruguay's national dish - chivito! We started the morning with a visit to the iconic Palacio Salvo, which is a landmark in Montevideo’s Old Town. This was the tallest building in all of South America up until the year 1935. If you think Palacio Salvo looks familiar, that’s because you can find its twin, Palacio Barolo, across the pond in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Both were designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti. Originally, the idea for this particular structure was to build a hotel, however, in the end only one floor ever functioned as that, and all the other floors were turned into apartments and office space. During our tour, we also visited the viewing deck on the 25th floor, where you get a bird’s eye view of Montevideo.
Then, we continued to Bar Hispánico for lunch, where we ordered chivito - Uruguay's national dish! Chivito consists of a beef steak, which can be served in sandwich or plated form. It is then topped with a mountain of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, mayonnaise, olives, bacon, beets, eggs, ham, fries and just about anything else you can imagine. It's a must-try dish for anyone visiting Uruguay.
The following day we explored the beachside neighbourhood of Pocitos, which is beautiful for a stroll along the waterfront. Fun fact: Montevideo's rambla is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world stretching 22.2 kilometres in length down the coast! This is also where you'll find the Montevideo city sign for that classic postcard shot of the city. The sign gets repainted quite often, so you never know what colours or patterns you'll get on your visit.

Hoy entro a conocer el barrio considerado más peligroso debido a su tasa de criminalidad. Drogas, homicidios, inseguridad según muchos vecinos, pero la mayoría de ellos se sienten seguros y estaban agradecidos de que pueda mostrar como es un día en este barrio.
Gracias a todos los que me abrieron las puertas de sus casas y accedieron a mostrarme una realidad de Uruguay menos conocida.

Les comparto otro Walking Tour que hice un domingo por la Avenida Rivera, una de mis favoritas de Montevideo. Este es el primero de unos 3 recorridos que haré por esta calle. No olviden suscribirse que pronto estaré mostrando más partes de esta hermosa Avenida yendo hacia Malvin, Punta Gorda, Carrasco.
Este tramo de Avenida Rivera está caracterizado por ser una avenida un tanto angosta porque originalmente estaba pensado para residencias unifamiliares de un solo nivel. Al sur de la Avenida está el Barrio Pocitos y hacia el Norte el Barrio Parque Battle.
Filmado en una tarde de domingo después de una lluvia, con poco sol. Los días cada vez más cortos y los árboles con menos hojas.
