Monterosso al Mare Walking Tour - Cinque Terre

Ciao, and welcome to Monterosso al Mare, home to the absolute best beaches in Cinque Terre. Monterosso is the largest of the 5 towns. In fact, back in the 1948, it was removed from the Cinque Terre trail because it was thought to be too large. It was added back onto the the Cinque Terre list the following year. :) This walk begins on Via Roma in the Old Town. It will take you down to the main Piazza where you will get to see an outdoor market and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. The walk continues along the beach and then up to the Convent of the Capuchin Monks. Finally, you will walk along the lively seafront promenade in the New Town. Put on your headphones to get the best experience of the tour. Thanks for watching!

Monterosso al Mare is the largest of the five coastal villages known as the Cinque Terre. The village is located on hills cultivated with lemons, vines and olives. ???????? Monterosso al Mare: The most lively village in Cinque Terre walking tour April 4K HDR Italy

Cinque Terre is a collection of five charming villages located between Genoa and Pisa in Italy.

Monterosso al Mare is the largest village in Cinque Terre. Most people choose to arrive by train. If you come by car, there is a parking lot in the back mountains, but it is often full. Along the roads in the mountain side, there are parking spaces designated for visitors and residents. Please be careful not to park in the residents' spaces.

Among the five villages of Cinque Terre, only Monterosso has a sandy beach. Monterosso is divided into the new town and the old town, separated by a tunnel. On sunny days, it's recommended to visit the tunnel entrance in the morning and capture the clear and transparent waters of the beach in front of the train station.

During the day, there are many tourists who take the train to visit the Cinque Terre, so it's best to start your day's itinerary early.

To travel between the five villages, you can take the train or hike the trails. It is necessary to purchase a Cinque Terre Card, as occasional checks are conducted on the trails and at the train stations.

The back mountains are adorned with numerous lemon groves, which you can explore if you have spare time.

Cinque Terre, Italy Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
We're traveling along the coast of Italy on the Mediterranean shores to Cinque Terre, visitng all five towns in this complete travel video:
Monterosso 1:17 , Vernazza 7:38 , Corneglia 17:09 , Manarola 19:14 , Riomaggiore 22:20
MONTEROSSO: Were starting out and Monterosso and then we're going to show you all five of these little villages visiting one of the most scenic parts of Italy, Cinque Terre, the five villages that run along the coastline of the Italian Riviera. Monterosso on the north end of the chain is largest of the five hamlets and makes a good home base because it has 20 hotels, the only sandy beach, excellent restaurants, and the start of the hiking trail. It is also the only one in which long-distance trains stop, so it is easy to reach by rail service from throughout Europe.
VERNAZZA: The next destination down the coast is Vernazza, which you could reach in 5 minutes by train, 10 minutes by boat, or 90 minutes walking. We take the boat. Vernazza may be the most beautiful of all, set perfectly in a tiny valley on the edge of the sea, with colorful homes built one on top of the next and framed by a couple of churches and towers. It’s a little bigger than Corniglia and Manarola, and yet it is still very, very small – so small that you could walk from one end to the other in about 10 minutes, but you’ll want to slow down and get into the local pace. There’s no rush here. Locals are just hanging out. They are enjoying life as much as the visitors do. The buildings have been standing for many centuries and they’re not going anywhere, so take your time, explore the little side alleys, and yes, there are going to be staircases. After all, these are hill-towns, so there are hardly any flat, level surfaces here, but it’s easy enough. We show one special viewpoint you reach with a short walk up the steps that makes the entire journey worthwhile, as you stand on a ledge looking straight down into the pastel-colored village wrapped around its tiny harbor.
CORNIGLIA: Corniglia is unique among these five villages because it's up on the hill. It has no direct access to the water, so this is a hilltop village, one of the oldest, perhaps the oldest of all of them. You can arrive by train in 5 minutes from Vernazza, then walk up the stairs to reach the village. This little speck of a town is worth seeing becaumse it is the smallest and most isolated, and perhaps the oldest. Yes, there are going to be more stairs -- but just a little bit of climbing will get you around. The main “street” is only a few feet wide. And it seems there are more locals than tourists out and about. You will soon come to the tiny main square of Corniglia, which is about 10 yards by 20 yards in dimension but big enough to hold some tables and host picnic lunches for intrepid hikers. From this lofty perch you can see down the coast to the next destination, Manarola.
MANAROLA: Arriving by boat, we see how Manarola spills down the hill to the waterfront, its houses packed solidly together in the typical pattern of the region, with terraced hillsides for the grapes up above. They don’t have a beach but there is a boat ramp carved into the stone, the most popular spot around for it functions like a beach, packed with sunbathers. The ramp leads to a cove with good swimming, further protected by a stone jetty, and ladders to help people get in and out of the water. There’s no room to put the boats in the water so they are stored up on dry land, on a ramp and along the main street as well. There are quite a few local residents who like to hang out, sit on the bench, chat with their friends and do some people-watching. Tourists love to look at the locals, and locals equally enjoy looking back at the tourists. You could pick up picnic supplies or sit in one of the many terrace restaurants here. It’s a small place but there is a nice selection of pizzerias and take-out food or of course, the ever-present pasta.
RIOMAGGIORE Regular ferry service connects each of the villages, and from Manarola it is just a 10-minute cruise to Riomaggiore, the last of the five. It’s a nice ride with splendid views of the coastal cliffs and hills above, and the blue sea all around. Enchanting, charming Riomaggiore is the grand climax to our survey of Cinque Terre. Here too you see that familiar pattern -- the houses tumbling down the cliffs to the water’s edge and a main pedestrian street rising up from the tiny cove, surrounded by terraced homes covering the hillside, rising high. It’s a surprising mix of urban high density in the midst of a tranquil, rural setting. It is very quiet when you walk down the little side streets, especially in the off-season, which is highly recommended. Cinque Terre, Italy, Manarollo, Monterosso, Riomaggiore, Vernazza, Corniglia, Italian Riviera.

Cinque Terre: A day in Vernazza & Monterosso al Mare by train| July 2023 | Virtual Walking Tour

The day had finally arrived! I am now able to cross off one of the most photographed places in Cinque Terre : the Vernazza Beach. We explored Cinque Terre just for a day by train. Though there are 5 villages to see as the name says cinque means 5 in English, we were just able to see 2 : Vernazza & Monterosso al Mare.
I don't think one day is enough to really feel and see the whole 5 villages especially during this summer season. Liguria is just 4 hours drive from our home, so I believe to come back one day but definitely not during peak season just like this July. I made this video so you can see how busy it is really here in Cinque Terre considering we're only in the middle of July. If you really want to enjoy famous places in Italy, you'll need to come in June or September and even October. Unfortunately, I know most of the people have just a vacation break in August so it's definitely understandable.
So here's a quick video as it was soo hot and full of people, that honestly I just wanted to stay swimming on the beach to cool off.
As for my honest review, I prefer to go to Puglia as the beach is a lot nicer. Vernazza, Cinque Terre or even all the villages in Cinque Terre is soo famous around the world, and full of tourists during summer that you can't really appreciate its beauty.
Monterosso was bigger in terms of the beach area, and I enjoyed to stay there more.

Vernazza, Italy Walking Tour 4K - The BEST of Cinque Terre!

Welcome to Vernazza, Italy! This walk was filmed on August 5th, 2020 starting at 12:00pm. Vernazza is the 4th town of the Cinque Terre when hiking from Riomaggiore up to Monterosso. This was by far my favorite town of the Cinque Terre. I would have really liked to have spent more time here. The beaches were amazing and the whole atmosphere was calm and inviting. I hope you enjoy Vernazza as much as I did. Thanks for watching. Be sure to put on headphones while watching to get the full experience of the walk. Ciao.

Monterosso on the north end of the Cinque Terre chain is largest of the five hamlets and makes a good home base because it has 20 hotels, the only sandy beach, excellent restaurants, and the start of the hiking trail.
You arrive by train at Monterosso in the newer section built in the 1970s, then walk through a short tunnel into the Old Town. Right away you see the beautiful beach with the umbrellas spread out before you.
Of course, for the shoppers, there’s always that chance to find the special souvenir or elusive outfit in little, out-of-the-way boutiques that you would never find at home or on the main shopping circuits, so there’s something for everybody here in the Cinque Terre.

In the new town, you'll find the beautiful Fegina Beach, which stretches for almost a kilometer and offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Relax on the beach, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, or rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore the surrounding coastline.

Monterosso is also a foodie's paradise, with fresh seafood and local specialties such as focaccia and pesto being some of the highlights. Don't miss the chance to taste the delicious cuisine of this region!

It is the westernmost of the #cinqueterre In the west part of the original village, beyond the hill of the Capuchins, it is the village of Fegina, natural expansion and characterized by a relatively modern tourist resort facility compared to the ancient village that is reachable through a tunnel of a few tens of meters. The local train station is located at Fegina and the beaches are relatively larger compared to the narrow cliffs that characterize the other villages of the Cinque Terre.

The town is divided into two distinct parts: the old town and the new town. The two areas are divided by a single tunnel that caters to pedestrians and the very few cars in the town.

The beach at Monterosso runs along most of the coast line and is well used by tourists and locals. The beach is the only extensive sand beach in the Cinque Terre. Monterosso is a small town overrun by tourists in the summer months.

The 2021 animated film #luca is inspired by Monterosso al Mare and the other Cinque Terre towns.

This walking tour was filmed on the 23rd of September, 2022. Sit back, relax and enjoy watching this very beautiful Italian Town.

Monterosso | Cinque Terre | Walking Tour | Italy

Monterosso is the largest of the five coastal villages known as the Cinque Terre. The village is located on hills cultivated with lemons, vines and olives. Its amazing beaches, its beautiful reefs and the sea’s crystal clear waters make this small village one of the most popular of the Italian Riviera.
Monterosso is divided in two parts marked by the medieval tower of Aurora. The old town of Monterosso is dominated by the ruins of the castle and characterized by typical narrow medieval streets, carruggi, with multi-coloured terraced houses, shops and restaurants.
Beach-lovers should definitely stay in Monterosso. The town has several beaches, both private and public ones. Near the station you will find Bagni Eden, the beautiful beach recognized by its orange and blue striped umbrellas.

Monterosso is almost flat, ideal for anyone with mobility issues and for those who just not want to climb a lot of stairs. It is also great for families with small kids, as there are long stretches along the beach promenade where you can walk with a stroller.

Walking Tour Monterosso al Mare Cinque Terre Italy

Walking Tour Monterosso al Mare Cinque Terre Italy.

The Cinque Terre ( meaning Five Lands) is a coastal area within Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. It lies in the west of La Spezia Province, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Cinque Terre area is a popular tourist destination. Over the centuries, people have built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the Ligurian Sea. Paths, trains, and boats connect the villages as cars can only reach them with great difficulty from the outside via narrow and precarious mountain roads.

Monterosso al Mare - Best of Cinque Terre Walking Tour 4K

Greetings from Monterosso!
Monterosso al Mare is the last and the largest fishermen village of 5 Terre National Park.
Accessible by car, the village consists of two distinct parts: the old village and the modern village (Fegina), connected by a tunnel that burrows beneath the San Cristoforo promontory.
With its sweet-smelling lemon trees, olive groves and terraced vineyards, in 1948 Monterosso was almost excluded from the Cinque Terre Trail because it was “too large to be included”; the following year, it was deservedly reintroduced and nowadays it is the most resorty village of the group.
