Top 10 Things to do in Monaco 4k | Must Do Travels

Monaco is a tiny independent city-state on France’s Mediterranean coastline known for its upscale casinos, yacht-lined harbor and prestigious Grand Prix motor race. Monte-Carlo is its major district and has many luxury hotels, boutiques, nightclubs and restaurants.

10. Port de Fontvieille

Fontvieille is the southernmost part in Monaco. It was developed by an Italian architect, Manfredi Nicoletti, between the 1970s and the 1990s. Today, it hosts the Monaco Heliport which has flights to Nice, New York, Dubai, London and other major cities in Europe. Fontevielle is also the home of Monaco’s automobile museum that displays the world famous Monaco’s top cars collection.

9. St Nicholas Cathedral

Saint Nicholas Cathedral, but known to be called The Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, is a Roman Catholic cathedral, where many of the Grimaldis were buried, including Grace Kelly. Each year on December 6th, the people of Monaco gather at the cathedral for a joyful remembrance of St. Nicholas' life.

8. Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic museum is home to exhibits of starfish, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish and so much more. There are over 4,000 species of fish that represent the Mediterranean and tropical sealife. The building is part of the Oceanographic Institute which is committed to globally sharing its knowledge of the oceans.

7. Larvotto Beach

Larvotto Beach is known to be one of the most glamorous beaches in the world. The beach is a free-to-the-public shore located just a short walk from Monte Carlo. But like many French Riviera beaches, this one has pebbles rather than sand - so be sure to come prepared! It’s also important to note that this beach is really popular, so getting there early is critical to getting a good spot.

6. Jardin Exotique

The Jardin Exotique de Monaco is located on the Mediterranean coast between Nice and Menton. It is a stunning garden with fabulous sea views. Travelers come from all over the world to see the mature exotic garden which grows along the edge of a cliff overlooking the bay of Monaco. The view over Monaco and the French and Italian Riviera is simply breathtaking.

5. Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco. The race is considered to be one of the most important and prestigious car races in the world since 1929. 4. Monte Carlo Harbor

Monte Carlo Harbor stretches almost the entire length of the principality and includes some of the most impressive landmarks that the small country has to offer. The Harbor showcases an impressive selection of luxury yachts, restaurants, and cafes for you to explore. This is the perfect place to have a coffee, beer, or glass of wine as you watch the boats go by.

3. Monaco Ville (Le Rocher)

Monaco Ville, also called Le Rocher, is the only part of Monaco that has kept its original old town, complete with small, windy medieval lanes. There are plenty of staircases up to Le Rocher; with the the best route being up via Rampe Major, which starts from Place d'Armes near the port.

2. Monte Carlo Casino

The Monte-Carlo Casino is an integral part of Monaco and is a must-do when you go visit this small but glorious country. Known for its iconic casino rooms and for its beautiful decor, the casino has played a large part in how Monaco has evolved and adapted since the 1920s. The best part: the casino accepts currencies from around the world so anyone can be part of the fun!

1. Prince’s Palace

This lavish Monaco-Ville palace is home to the prince and has been the home of the Grimaldi family in the 13th century and Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace in the 20th century. Today, Rainier’s son and heir, Prince Albert II, calls this palace home. The palace also features a changing of the guard every morning at 11:55. If you’re not up for a tour of the rooms, just going to visit the exterior of the palace is a must-do in Monaco.

Monaco Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Monaco in France.
Located between Italy and France, on the Côte d'Azur, the Principality of Monaco is renowned for its high society, Grand Prix, scandal and where the cost of a square metre of land is the most expensive in the world. After the Vatican, it is the smallest yet most unique sovereign state in the world.

Monte Carlo's Casino is undoubtedly the principality's most famous landmark. Designed by the architect of the Paris Opera House, Charles Garnier, this superb casino was built in 1878. With the opening of the casino, this previously relatively poor mini State, developed into the famous principality it is today.

La Condamine is in the harbor district, with its typical French atmosphere and overlooking apartments, it connects Monaco Ville with Monte Carlo. Luxury yachts anchor in the harbor throughout the year and have traveled from all over the world to visit this much sought after tax haven and exclusive casino paradise.

On the large rock plateau of Le Roche, Monaco Ville is crowned by its royal palace that was built in 1215 on a former mighty Genoese fortress.

The Neo-Roman Monaco Cathedral was built around 1897. The large interior is dominated by the main altar that was designed by Louis Brea. This is also the location of the grave of ex-Hollywood actress, Princess Grace of Monaco, who died tragically in a car accident.

Monaco is certainly a place of wealth and prosperity but the sunshine and its wonderful location on the Côte d'Azur makes it a fascinating place to visit.

Monaco Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations

The tiny duchy of Monaco lies on the French Riviera between Menton and Nice. Its mood and elegance attract tourists, millionaires, ship owners, sportsmen, film- and popstars. The casino of Monte Carlo - which was engineered in 1862 by the architect of the Paris Opera, Garnier - is the most famous of its kind in the whole world. The Formula 1 race, when the narrow streets of the city are turned into a racetrack, is also a large event. Among other things circus and opera festivals, art exhibitions, football matches and tennis tournaments await the visitors. The Oceanographic Museum, founded by Prince Albert I. and at a time led by Cousteau, is the worlds largest such institute. In the Jardin Exotique the visitors may see tropical plants, cactuses and pine trees. The guards parade in front of the palace in snow-white uniforms. The buildings of the old city reflect a Renessaince charm and a zest for life. The sea is dark blue in the arms of the large rocks, while in the docks of La Condamine white luxury yachts are floating on the water.

The world's most deluxe country.
Passing through Eze sur Mer, but were not stopping because we are heading to Monaco, the world's second-smallest country, after the Vatican, less than a square mile in size. It's been a sovereign nation since 1861 when it gained independence from France, and it's a full member of the United Nations -- small, but filled with beautiful contrast, one of the world's most deluxe places.
The Tourist Information office in the train station is a great place to stop and pick up some brochures and you can get a free city map here and you'll find they are very helpful.
And yet despite this diminutive size, there is contrast in Monaco: You've got the Old Town and you've got the new ultra-modern town...you've got the waterfront and you've got the hillside...there are beautiful flowers and gardens and historic sites.
This program will focus on the two main areas for the visitor: The old town and Monte Carlo with the casino and elegant shopping area.
Monaco is more than twice as densely populated as the second most crowded country, which is Singapore. That's with a population density in Monaco of about 47,000 people per square mile, compared to Singapore with about 20,000 people per square mile.
Now this is really crowded compared to other European countries. For example, the UK has got about 700 people per square mile, Italy 500 people per square mile. So we are talking about a very crowded and packed in place, this Monaco, and yet they manage it amazingly well. Perhaps this is a model for the other big cities of the world, showing how to grow and how to plan your city.
Several cities in the world have got twice the population density of Monaco, including Dacca, the most crowded city in the world, the capital of Bangladesh, Manila and Mumbai. Other cities that are more crowded include in India, Delhi and Calcutta, also Hong Kong, and Paris is more densely populated; Bogotá, Karachi, Cairo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, Manila and even Paris. And yet Monaco does a very good job of organizing the people who live here into beautiful buildings and lovely neighborhood, so they're doing a great job in handling that population. The might even be considered a model for the rest of the urbanizing areas of the world.
Monaco gained its independence back and 1489, and had a protectorate with Spain for about 100 years and, and then with France, and then with Sardinia up until 1860.
Monaco became independent from France in 1861.
And today it's a sovereign nation represented in the United Nations.
It's surrounded by France and there is a military arrangement where it's defended by France.
Monaco is quite active on the international scene with consulates in 72 different countries, and within Monaco, there are 65 countries that have embassies, along with 75 nations with consular offices, so this is by no means a small, isolated place. It's very much part of Europe.
The economy will surprise you. You might think that all of the revenues are gained from the gambling casino and related gambling ventures, but actually gambling represents only 3% of the nation's revenue of the nation's revenue, the GDP.
The present casino was first inaugurated in 1863 and gradually grew an expanded ever since. It's an elaborate structure with the principal façade fronting the town in the south façade overlooking the sea. The earliest portion was rebuilt in 1878 by Charles Garnier, the architect of the grand opera house in Paris.
Of course gambling was very important back in the 19th century when it was just getting started. The first casino was opened in 1856.
The principal entrance of the casino is between two towers with domes of colored tiles, and flanked by statues of the Seine and the Mediterranean.
The south façade has three arcades with Venetian mosaics and two slender towers, and niches at the side with statues representing music and dance.
To arrive on the terraces of Monte Carlo at twilight on a springtime or autumn evening is one of the great episodes in one's life.
