Mogollon Rim - Monsoon - Waterfalls

We spent another fantastic weekend dispersed camping on the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona this past weekend with our German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP). We had a large storm system in the state all weekend and it made for a unique AZ experience. The usually dry washes were flowing and we saw lots of waterfalls. Mid trip we hiked down a steep game trail to find a large meadow with hundreds of butterfly's. We ended the trip back on the rim with lots of rain. On the way home we saw rock slides on highway 260 and multiple flash floods in the washes off the roads.

I take a walk down below my camping spot on the Mogollon Rim. Lots a wild flowers blooming and some weird cactus in what must be a micro climate. Strange seeing cactus growing at 7,600 ft with pine trees and alpine type terrain.

Promontory Butte Camping/Toyota 4Runner

Promontory Butte is probably the most desirable place to view the panorama of forest below the Mogollon Rim. The trail to this site is rugged and unmaintained, high clearance vehicles are strongly recommended.

My buddy and I spent two nights here hiking, camping, relaxing and soaking in the view. Temperatures were in the mid to high seventies.
