Минск одна из самых малоизвестных столиц Европы, хотя город стоит на 10 месте по населению среди европейских городов. Этот город был полностью разрушен во время WWII и его центр восстановлен в очень интересном стиле архитектуры, известным как советский ампир.
Проспект Независимости — основная магистраль Минска, пересекающая его от центра на северо-восток. Это самая длинная улица в Беларуси. Ее история началась в качестве объездной дороги в 1801 году. За это время она успела вырасти в длину и ширину, стать центральной и поменять свое название 12 раз. Сейчас ее протяженность — 15 км.
Советский монументальный классицизм, советский империалистический стиль, советский неоклассицизм, и наконец, самое известное название стиля, который можно увидеть на минском проспекте Независимости – сталинский ампир. Более того, исследователи связывают его и с древним палладианским стилем, названным в честь итальянского архитектора XVI века Андреа Палладио, идеи которого во многом стали первоосновой. И именно в Минске этот поистине роскошный образец советского величия сохранился как целостный ансамбль, что уникально для бывшего СССР.

Americans First Time in Minsk, Belarus - Solo Travel
I've always been curious to visit Minsk, but never went. But this time I was going to be nearby and started to do research on how to visit. I found out I had to fly into and out of Belarus and could only stay a maximum of 30 days. I couldn't cross the border by land, so the only way was to fly.
So I decided to stay 4 nights and squeeze it in between Odessa, Ukraine and Tallinn, Estonia. I rented an apartment on Airbnb, great location downtown, not too pricey, a perfect place to be able to see the city easily.
During my time there I met some locals and some travelers, ate some great food and desserts, walked around the city many times, and took 2 free walking tours with Free Walking Tours Minsk.
Overall it was a fun time and I really enjoyed the city, Minsk is definitely a place I would return to someday.

After the Pale of Settlement of 1835, the population of Minsk became 1/3 Jews, almost all of whom fled or were killed during World War II. During the war, the population of Minsk was reduced from 300,000 people to 50,000 people. The city was 80% destroyed and was rebuilt in the 1950s to the liking of Stalin. The population of the city grew due to industrialization and movement of young people from the Belarusian countryside.
The city now features a combination of rebuilt historical buildings, as well as modern apartments and shopping centers, and soviet-style buildings and monuments. It features sightseeing opportunities, as well as dining and shopping similar to its neighboring countries in the European Union, while still showing signs of Russian influence.
English is rarely spoken but Russian is spoken by all, in addition to Belarusian. It helps to learn some key phrases in Russian.
Minsk has a moderate climate and the best time to visit this region is the summer months of between June to September.
