Walking around Minsk - 2017

Visiting Minsk in July 2017. It's a truly amazing place, clean and peaceful. While parts of it reminds you of the Sovjet times, it it astonishing how much is new. The city is developing quickly with construction projects being visible everywhere. Compared to Kiev, things in Minsk are a lot more in order. It seems that the whole city is functionning like a Swiss watch. Traffic is running smoothly and there is no visible crime. Also economically Belarus is better off than it's neighbor Ukraine. GDP per capita is 6200 USD and official unemployment is just 1%.

Belarus introduced visa-free travel for up to 5 days for citizens of many countries. Still, I did only spot very few foreigners. I do recommend visiting this great country and amazing city.

Minsk, Belarus 2017 - Where Soviet Communism meets Capitalism

This VLOG is about my visa-free visit to the beautiful city of Minsk, the capital of Belarus, in April 2017. The video features the main sights, Soviet architecture, Belarusian churches, Communist monuments, Capitalist businesses, Minsk metro (subway) and much more (contents with time code see below).

Minsk is a city with an interesting history. The city was destroyed and fought over many times. 80% of the city were destroyed in World War II. Minsk also lost a huge part of its population in the war. It recovered during Soviet times from 60,000 to around 1 million inhabitants. It still has a Soviet vibe - here you can experience a Communist country in the 21st century. But there are also many other things to do in Minsk: there are great bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants - and there are various modern shopping malls that offer anything you desire.

Minsk is a heavily patrolled and very safe city. I had no issues walking around town day and night. The streets are VERY clean and people very friendly and helpful. The metro system is efficient and cheap. Whenever public transportation was not available, Uber worked very well. I was positively surprised about Belarus in terms of hospitality. It was quite the opposite of the terrible reputation of “the last dictatorship in Europe”, as Western media outlets sometimes like to call it.

It is now possible to visit Belarus for five days without a visa, as long as you enter the country at Minsk National Airport. I spent three days in Minsk and another day in Brest to see the massive Brest Fortress (not included in this video). There is a lot to discover in this beautiful country, far off the beaten path, and I can’t wait to come back another time to see more of Belarus!

Here’s what to expect in the following eight minutes:
00:00 Flight to Minsk with Belavia Airlines
00:24 Walking around Minsk including the National Library Observation Deck
01:13 Where Communism meets Capitalism
01:44 Island of Tears – Afghan War Monument
02:06 Opera House and Ballet Theatre
02:22 Yanka Kupala Park, squirrels
02:57 Change of guards at Victory Square
04:17 Minsk metro (subway) ride
05:02 Holy Spirit Cathedral and Old Town
05:13 Free Walking Tour around the city center – highly recommended! (freetour.travelbel.by)
06:11 Independence Square
06:54 Stolitsa Underground Shopping Center
07:04 Old Town by night
07:31 Victory Square by night
07:52 Another Minsk metro (subway) ride

Svetlana Mukha CEO of Diolli on Business Strategy For Dating Agencies & PID at iDate Minsk

Svetlana Mukha, CEO of Diolli will provide a special pre-conference on business strategy for dating agencies & PID sites.

The 49th International Conference will took place July 20-21, 2017 in Minsk at the Comfort Hotel.

It focused on 2 niches within the dating industry:
-Premium International Dating (also known as International Romance)
-Dating Agencies

Both are local oriented matching and love oriented businesses. They are highly lucrative and no event existed for the owners and operators of these markets previously.

Premium International Dating is more infamously referred to as 'foreign brides' or 'mail order brides.' However, the owners and operators of those businesses eschew the term, and insist it is branded as 'premium international dating' or 'international romance.'
