Mellieha is located in the northwestern part of Malta and it is a large village set on top of a hill with beautiful landscapes and vistas. During the summer months, this destination becomes very popular and lively; that is why many people come here to spend their vacations. It is also well known for the beautiful villas in Santa Maria Estate which are perfect for those people who are looking for a peaceful and secluded location for their holidays. Visiting this village would surely be a breathtaking experience for tourists. The village is located on top of a serene hilltop from where you can enjoy great views of the azure Mediterranean Sea and the Ghadira sandy beach, the longest sandy beach in Malta. The village is surrounded by deep valleys which are very fertile.
Reaching Mellieha
Mellieha is located 13 miles away from the capital Valletta, a bus from Valletta takes around 45min. It takes more or less the same time to get from the airport to Mellieha.
Things to see in Mellieha
Mellieha the picturesque and quaint village welcomes all the tourists to enjoy a calm and mesmerizing vacation. Some things that you must see here are mentioned below.
The best feature of this village is the 18th century neo-Baroque church which also has a medieval shrine. The church was built on the edge of the cliff from where you can get exotic views of the whole village and of the Ghadira Bay.

Top 5 Local Gems to Visit in 1 day in Mellieha
Day and night, Mellieha is a vibrant pulse of energy.
Mellieha does not rely on the sea to bring the color, day and night, it glows with a sense of vibrancy and energy. This area located in the north part of the island has a good t atmosphere.
There’s plenty of history through the ages surrounding this area that was first inhabited around 3000 BC. Plus the northern coast offers a beautiful natural environment that’s ideal for a nature walk. Head into the countryside and you may stumble across megalithic remains, troglodyte caves and a red tower.
In Mellieha, you will find spectacular views including coastal cliffs, beaches and bays. Try the different bars, cafes and restaurants but mostly enjoy the lovely Meditterean atmosphere of this beautiful coastal area.
Mellieha is such a gorgeous town, but many just pass through to either hit the beach in summer or head up to Cirkewwa to catch the ferry to Gozo. But like many other towns on the Maltese Islands, Mellieha is home to a number of hidden treasures that are just waiting to be explored.

- ???????????? ???????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? - it`s a natural cave lying low in the valley where there are steps to go down to it, dedicated to Our Lady. It has been a special place for many centuries.
- ???????????? ???????????? ???????????????????? (St.Agatha`s Tower) - this tower has survived two worlds wars in Malta’s history. The Red Tower is a large bastioned watchtower that forms part of the Lascaris towers, named after the then Grand Master of the Knights of Malta.

The name Mellieha is derived from the semitic root, wich means salt. The meaning of this is because the amazing Mellieha bay beach, also known as Ghadira. One of the most popular beaches you can find in Malta. In summer, people from everywhere come to visit this natural landscape.

When you come, you will realize why it’s called a natural spot, without a doubt Mellieha Bay is the best attraction in the area of Mellieha. There are a lot of facilities around the beach that gives you the perfect environment you need for a day on the beach.
One of the hightlights of visiting Mellieha was Ghadira Bay. It’s a pretty good and short downhill walk but it’s worth it for the landscape you are about to see. This adventure of Malta´s trip is goin to be unforgettable.
Malta beaches are not very sandy. And for that reason, Mellieha Bay was amazing, feeling the blazing, swimming in the crystal water its good enough to say this experience is unique.
Behind Mellieha Bay comes a protected area known as the Ghadira Nature Reserve, a haven for natural places lovers. Near it is Armier Bay, a popular destination for snorkeling and diving, and close to it you can find the Popeye Village, a great destination for a family day.
After a day at Mellieha Bay, you cannot go without talking a walk through Mellieha tow. This place is stated on top of a hill, surrounded by beautiful valleys and panoramas that only Malta has.
Being in one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean Sea is wonderful. Sharing the traditions and parties celebrated in September by the locals is to see another form of cultural expression. At the feast Il Vitorja you can see a lot of musical concerts, fireworks, traditional folk singing and many different food strands.
