Bruce Lee's twin Meet Afghanistan's best martial arts expert

Abbas Alizada, who calls himself the Afghan Bruce Lee, poses for a picture in front of Bruce Lee posters after exercising in Kabul December 9, 2014.

Abbas Alizada, who calls himself the Afghan Bruce Lee, poses for the media in front of the destroyed Darul Aman Palace in Kabul December 9, 2014. From the ruins of an iconic bombed-out palace above Kabul, the young Afghan man bearing a striking resemblance to kung fu legend Bruce Lee is high-kicking his way to Internet fame, aiming to show another side to his war-weary nation.

Bruce Lee may no longer be with us, but his doppelganger is taking over the Internet one kick at a time. Abbas Alizada, 20, is being called the “Afghan Bruce Lee,” and it’s not just because of his looks; he even has Lee’s trademark bowl haircut. He spends much of his time training at Darulaman Palace, which has been left destroyed over the years after decades of war. It’s a place that Alizada says “inspires” him.

One of 10 children, he grew up poor and it looked like he couldn’t afford to attend an academy that taught the Chinese mixed martial art of Wushu due to the fees. Fortunately for him, a trainer took Alizada under his wing. He now spars with partners as part of his routine. His Facebook page, where he already has more than 14,000 Likes, is full of inspiring quotes paired with photos of him showing off his moves. A video from June puts Lee and Alizada head to head—and the comparisons aren’t that far off.

Afghanistan - My Kabul 2 of 3 - BBC Culture Documentary

Afghanistan - My Kabul 2 of 3 - BBC Culture Documentary, recorded 20.02.2011 In this BBC documentary, journalist and native Afghani Tahir Qadiry revisits his hometown of Kabul. Qadiry meets with not only the historians and politicians, but also the workers, children, and homemakers who represent the over-four-million people who live in Kabul today. Ultimately, the document comes to the point that Kabul consists of many varying regions, classes of people, and amount of progress versus traditionalism.

It is evident from the documentary that Kabul is beginning to reach out to the modern age but various factors keep parts of the city from progressing. Narrow streets, hundred year old architecture, and poor sanitation systems seem to encourage old customs and little advancement. The people, though incredibly accepting and welcoming to Qadiry and his crew, still hold many of the fundamental values from Taliban occupation. With all its residents, it has become impossible to manage pollution and the documentary estimates that over 3000 people die every year from poor sanitation. Many families have to go all the way to the central part of the city just to carry water to their homes (Qadiry at one point tries to help a man to carry his water jugs but he can barely make it a few feet up a hill). Although an influx of foreign aid has begun to help reconstruct the new city, many parts have yet to see the money trickle down.

However, the most central areas of Kabul such as Shahr-e-now are not only progressive and urban but thriving, erudite and expensive. This district is much more progressive in its architecture, styles of clothing, successful corporations, building of public schools and private universities, and rapidly growing use of technology. After much music, cinema, and television had been banned under strict Taliban regime, the residents of Kabul are enjoying making progressive change and converting to a more westernized lifestyle.

Entering America’s Most Religious Community

As someone who grew up Jewish in Arizona, I’ve always been fascinated by the Hasidic Jews of Brooklyn, New York. They are widely considered to be America’s most religious and closed-off community, even more than the Amish of Pennsylvania. In this 47-minute documentary, I embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of the Hasidics behind closed doors, and discover what makes their lifestyles so incredibly unique.

Guided in the beginning by my friend Abby Stein, a former Hasidic rabbi who is now a transgender author, I gain a fascinating insight into Hasidic life and customs from her perspective - both the good and the bad.

In our climax scene, I meet with @ShloimeZionce, a fellow traveler and YouTuber, who opens the doors to his home so I could document a traditional Shabbat dinner with his family. With the permission of a rabbi, we capture the essence of this essential weekly ritual and the warmth and hospitality of the Hasidic people. You can follow Shloime's adventures on his channel:

This story is really fascinating and I'm really proud of how it came out. From the traditional clothing, music, and food to the strict gender roles and controversies surrounding the community, this documentary dives deep into every aspect of Hasidic life with a balanced portrayal of the good and the bad.

Join me on this captivating journey to experience the Hasidic Jews of Brooklyn, New York, like never seen before.

A meet up with Afghan refugees in the United States.

It is not easy for me to write my feelings over the current situation if Afghanistan, but i an happy that i made it to at least meet these people and see my self what’s going on. Turning just the tv on ,discussing the footages and sighing is not what they need but we have a prime responsibility to help them in real.
In this meet up i got to know that their issues they are facing for which only food and shelter is not helping them. Families with kids, todlers, infants, teens and old people is a huge mess. Every body has their own neccessities. One of the biggest issue was language , becauseof which they could not nevigage or go out and even buy something for themselves.
They still need cloths and medicine. They had lost their bags in cargo plans because of which they had no cash money. 6 to 7 people living in one room was miserable. To keep the video short i could not paste footages of all the rooms and their condition.
Above all this it was emotional support , courage and confidence they were looking for. I would ask every body to go out , and seek people like them sit with them, talk to them and try to help them with what they need for their daily life.
This is a real hard time kn this people which shell pass but it is a test for the rest of the humanity where do they stand.

Thank you !!

The LAST FOOTAGE of India’s flag for Afghanistan

➤ SUBSCRIBE to follow my adventures:

Surprisingly, flags are not very popular in Afghanistan. Maybe it is because the flag has changed so frequently throughout conflicts, or maybe they had other things to worry about. In 2014, India donated Afghanistan’s Largest Flag, and gave Afghanis pride in their country. One of the biggest flags I’ve ever seen!

Unfortunately, when Kabul fell in August of 2021, it was one of the first things to go. This footage is some of the last footage that exists of the huge beautiful flag. I hope it is restored one day. Until then, this footage is all we have to remember it by.
